Hygiene Practises - Preparing For Your Baby's Arrival

General Physician,
Hygiene Practises - Preparing For Your Baby's Arrival

Bringing your baby home is an extremely exciting feeling. It’s also the time, when as parents, you tend to get a little nervous thinking of the tremendous responsibility.

Being new to the world, your baby’s immune system is still getting developed. Until they begin with their immunizations, they would need all the help they can get to fend off illness and germs. These below mentioned hygiene tips will help them in getting the healthy start they need.

Wash your hands

Germs roam around your house on your hands. It sounds terrifying, but washing your hands with soap and water is one of the easiest ways to stop the spread of bacteria and germs. A liquid hand wash ensures that the germs are not spread. Dettol Original Liquid Handwash protects you from 100 illness causing germs.

You should wash your hands:

  • Before breastfeeding or preparing formula milk

  • Before and after preparing food

  • After going to the toilet or changing a nappy

  • After cleaning or touching something filthy (feces, vomit, saliva, urine)

  • Whenever you feel your hands are dirty

In case you don’t have access to water, use Dettol Wipes to disinfect your hands

Clean surfaces before and after use

As a new mum, you’ll always have your hands full, but by establishing a foolproof hygiene routine at home you can safeguard the whole family from harmful germs. Surfaces that you come in contact with on a regular basis should be cleaned and disinfected. These include:

  • Kitchen surfaces before and after you prepare food

  • Baby changing mats and nappy bins

  • Door handles

  • Toilet seats, flushes and taps

  • Light switches and bin lids

Once your baby starts utilizing a high chair, it’s imperative that you keep it hygienically clean. Dettol Hygiene Liquid will get rid of 99.9% of germs that are present.

Prevent infection from visitors

You can bet money on the fact that the moment you reach home, friends and family will be queuing up to say hello to the newest member of the family. Don’t be hesitant to ask them to wash their hands before and after they touch your baby. Also, ask people who are ill to postpone their visit to meet your baby until they are better.

Immunizations for your baby

Immunizations – or vaccinations – are a fast, safe and extremely effective method to protect your loved ones from infectious diseases, such as tetanus, diphtheria, polio and whooping cough. Once vaccinated, your baby’s small body will be able to fight diseases in a more efficient manner.

The advised age to start vaccinations for your child is two months. Get in touch with your doctor to plan your vaccination schedule, so that your baby gets the right vaccinations at the perfect time.

Possibly she has polycystic ovaries. Also appears she is overweight. If her period's are irregular then she needs to get a hormonal profile done and consult a Gynaecologist. If regular then she needs to reduce weight by a combination of diet and exercise.

Hello sir/madam. What is difference between regular and irregular periods? How can I know that I have regular or irregular periods?

Certificate Course in Fitness Management

Hello sir/madam.
What is difference between regular and irregular periods? How can I know that I have regular or irre...
Hello, Irregular period is usually defined as any type of bleeding that's abnormal when compared to your last few menstrual cycles. It can include everything from a late period to early bleeding, and scant bleeding to extremely heaving bleeding. For many women, this can even mean an absent period (amenorrhea) or two periods in one month (metrorrhagia). It's actually a way of your body telling you something is not right and probably your hormones (especially estrogen and progesterone) are imbalanced. Although, in most cases, they are not dangerous, but it is important to figure out what is causing the irregularity (which may require a trip to the doctor). RESAONS/ CAUSES: Some common reasons for irregular periods: STRESS: Stress is the most common cause of irregular periods. Cortisol, the stress hormone, has a direct impact on how much estrogen and progesterone, two sex hormones, gets produced by the body. POOR DIET: Unhealthy eating and being overweight or underweight can cause irregular periods. In order for a woman to maintain a regular cycle, her body fat percentage needs to be at least 17-22 percent. EXCESSIVE EXERCISE: Excessive exercising (or even lack of it) and drastic weight changes can decrease the body fat, being underweight can offset your hormone levels, thus contributing to irregular periods. BIRTH CONTROL PILLS: When some women stop taking the pill, their periods may take one to three months to return to normal. And this can also reveal an underlying hormonal problem that was masked by taking the birth control pills. PCOS: Polycystic ovary syndrome causes cysts to form on the ovaries, interfering with regular ovulation. In fact, PCOS is far more complicated than a missed period. Talk to your doctor about this condition. THYROID: Thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, can cause widespread symptoms like changes in estrogen and cortisol hormones and missed periods. OTHER REASONS: Some other reasons include perimenopause, menopause, pregnancy, certain medications you might be taking due to other health issues, and breastfeeding. Hope this helps.

Why Do Women Face Joint Pain Problems More than Men?

MD - Anaesthesiology
Anesthesiologist, Delhi
Why Do Women Face Joint Pain Problems More than Men?

Joint pain refers to discomfort, aches, and soreness in any of the body's joints. Arthritis is a frequent cause of joint pain. The two main forms of arthritis, which may cause joint pain, are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. In fact, arthritis affects over 180 million people in India, with most of them being under the age of 25, and women in the age bracket of 20-40 being most severely affected by rheumatoid arthritis. Other common causes of joint pain are bursitis, lupus, gout, infection of the bone, cancer, and rickets.

Women face the problem of joint pain mostly because of menopause. Estrogen reduction during menopause very often means a bone loss that puts women at risk for osteoporosis. It is the thinning of the bone that dramatically increases the risk of fracture in women. Fractures due to osteoporosis affect about half of the women over 50.

Osteoporosis is a silent problem but osteoarthritis makes itself known. It causes achy joints, which can be very painful. Osteoarthritis results from the loss of cartilage in a joint, which causes the bones to rub together, eventually damaging the joint.

Joints, which experience high impacts such as hips and knees, tend to be most affected by menopausal arthritis. Hands and fingers can also be affected. Dehydration in women can also cause joint pain because of a buildup of uric acid, which can cause inflammation in the joints.

How can you as a woman prevent joint pain?

  • It is important to reduce the pressure of repetitive strain. Some exercises such as yoga and swimming are beneficial for strengthening your muscles and joints without exerting too much pressure on them.
  • Diet can have a positive influence on your joint health too. Fruits and vegetables have properties, which reduce inflammation (such as tomatoes, olive oil, and green, leafy vegetables to name a few). Having a balanced diet will not only help you with many menopause symptoms but will keep your weight in check, thereby preventing obesity and consequently joint pain.

First of all pregnancy is not in anybody's hand. Si expecting a male babay itself is not correct. Again no one can tell you what sex you will have. The chromosomal no doesn't dictate the sex if baby. If you want a child then go ahead, if you want a male child I will suggest don't think about that.

Welcome to lybrate. I understand your problem. Its a common problem faces by nearly 80-85% women. Its known as premenstrual syndrome. There are medicines to help this problem but I would not suggest you take treatment if you do not have much problem. Only if it hampers your daily life you can opt for medical treatment. I suggest you try meditation, breathing excursus till then to relax yourself. Hope this information has helped you.

Having a cyst in the ovary if it is simple cyst is normal and not serious. It is called corpus luteal cyst. After releasing the egg the follicle in the ovary forms a cystic structure which is called corpus luteum and in pregnancy it will persist to give hormonal support to the baby till placenta is functional say till 12 weeks. Sometimes it is little bigger than expected and show as a cyst in scan. It will shrink in due course. You can follow it in next scan. Rarely it can go for twisting or give rise to pain due to hemorrhagic inside the cyst. At present nothing to worry.

Hello sir, I am 42 year female and have menopause. What should I do? Please tell me.

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hi, after menopause, the oestrogen levels go down and as a result it affects the bones causing arthritis and osteoporosis. Hence a women needs to start on calcium supplements to take care of their bone density. Drink two glasses of milk everyday which is rich in calcium. There is a tendency of weight gain after menopause. So, perform some physical exercises like yoga. Walking and do meditation to keep your mind calm. Be careful about diet. Cut down on high calorie diet like sweets, oil fried food, chats, bakery food, etc. Be active. Get your sugar levels, serum calcium levels, vit. D3 levels and cholesterol levels tested once in a year.

Health Benefits of Garlic-

Garlic is just magnificent and phenomenal. I am providing few of the basics known and reliable home remedies for some specific ailments, which you could try at your home .

If you have cold and flu, then take small amount of garlic every day until the infection disappears. Garlic tends to reduce the frequency of colds and flu without any side effects. A suggested dose would be two or three cloves of raw or cooked garlic a day.

We all face horrid acne, blemishes, blackheads during our teens. If you want to reduce it, or if you just want to glow up your skin, then take two cloves of raw garlic regularly with warm water early in the morning. It works as a blood cleanser and clean your system internally. Do not eat chocolates, spicy or oily food during this treatment and rinse your face five times a day with cold water. Drinks lots of water daily to flush off toxic waste from the blood and urinate whenever you feel that your bladder is full. Else, apply a cut clove gently on the affected area only if you have no sensitivity to it.

If you have High Cholesterol Level, use garlic in your food. This is the better way for heart patients to reduce their cholesterol level. Modern medical science suggests one reason that garlic might reduce cholesterol , i.E. "Garlic is a proven anti-oxidant. This property might help to prevent LDL (Low Density Lipo Protein) from being oxidized. In this way the cholesterol build-up that clogs the arteries could perhaps be reduced by garlic.

If you are very fat and want to loose weight, squeeze half lemon juice in one glass of luke warm water and drink it with two cloves of raw garlic regularly twice a day (morning and evening), for about three months. Avoid using starchy foods and fats. Do exercise regularly. You'll amazingly fell a great change in your body.

If you have Wrinkles, and you want to use anti ageing cream, it would be better to use 3 cloves of garlic regularly as it has a powerful antioxidant effect, which help to protect the body against damaging "Free Radicals. Remember, out skin is made up of collagen and it looses elasticity on yearly basis. Therefore, use garlic and do exercise regularly for the positive results.

If you have Earache, put two or three drops of warm garlic oil in the ears.

Take garlic to boosts the weight of babies in the womb. Thus, when they are born, they are heavier than they would have been if you hadn't taken garlic. Some babies are born too small, so garlic is a definite boon in these cases too.

Use two raw garlic daily to reduce the risk of cancer, due to its Anti-Carcinogenic properties. It helps prevent cancerous compounds from forming and developing into tumors. It also inhibits the growth of tumors.

If any insect bites you at the seaside, you just crush the garlic and apply it to the affected area to reduce pain and to remove poison.

Follicles may grow properly and improperly in between due to many reasons. You need to avoid taking undue stress for this. Also start exercising, doing pranayam and yoga to improve fertility. And get repeated cycles of iui done for better results.
