5 Habits Parents Should Teach Their Children

5 Habits Parents Should Teach Their Children

Parents are responsible not only for the birth of the child, but also for their well-being. For children, their parents are their first teachers, who inculcate in them the right manners, attitudes and habits. Consequently, you too must be careful in deciding what habits and manners you pass down to your children.

Some of the habits that you should teach your children are:

  1. Eating healthy food: Children always have the propensity to consume junks and avoid healthy food. It is the duty of the parents to correct this and teach their kids to eat healthy food. You must explain and elucidate the importance and nutritional value of eating healthy food. At the same time, the harm caused by the junk food must also be brought to their notice. You should introduce multiple fruits and green vegetables in the diet. Eating healthy food is a habit that reaps great benefits in the long run.
  2. Table manners: Children eating on their own generally create a mess. Therefore, you must teach your child the right table manners. When to use spoon or fork and what should be the etiquettes that must be observed while eating with a large group of people must be known to a child. You should begin to treat your child as a grown up as he or she sits at the table.
  3. Regular brushing of the teeth: The importance of teeth is most acutely felt with advanced age. Therefore, it is imperative that you teach your children to take good care of their teeth. You must educate your child about the necessity of good teeth and see to it that they brush daily and twice a day. Brushing in the morning as well as before going to sleep is equally important and the child must be aware of it.
  4. Early to bed: It is necessary for children to get adequate sleep. Therefore, you must make it a habit from the very start to put them to sleep early and see to it that that they get sufficient rest.
  5. Play outdoors: You must make it a habit for your children to play outside more often. Staying at home without any activity has serious repercussions like obesity and lethargy. Therefore, it is extremely important that children involve in sufficient physical activity.

My son is not having food properly nowadays. Do not know what to do. I am giving his favourite food. Then also he is not having. Some times i am getting more irritating. Beating him. Do not know how to make him to eat. Help me.

MBBS, MD

Mother should never be aggresive. Child should be given the time learn. Some children learn much earlier than others. If they do not eat keep then without eating. They will join other children and then come back to eat. Neither pampering nor aggressive.

The cyst if pressuring on the neighbouring structure then will cause symptoms... You already must have started the allopathic treatment... I will suggest you to start homoeopathic treatment as there are chances that it will help immensely if the homoeopath is good prescriber.

The exact schedule as per Indian academy of pediatrics recommendation 3 doses MMR are necessary for complete protection of baby which are to be given at 9 months, 15 months and 5 years of the age respectively. If some one is trying to put additional doses you can show them your baby`s immunization card.

My daughter is 3 years. She had cough every time.
What is the problem and medicine.
I understand your anxiety. Young children are known to have 8 to 10 episodes of upper respiratory infections in this age. Repeated cough can be an indication of asthma in children. Regards.

Why small kids between 5 to 13 use to bleed unnecessary from nose when play or ran. What is the cause and what is the diagnose for the same?

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Jamnagar
Usually it is due to minor crack in the delicate inner skin of nose mostly due to nose picking by children. It can occur frequently during cold due to itching inside the nose. When there is bleed from nose. Pinch the nose for 5 minutes and let the child breath from mouth. Bleeding will stop. If not, continue pinching the nose and mouth breathing and reach to a doctor or a clinic which attends emergency calls.
