If he is completely breast fed this is normal. When you give other foods give more boiled water in between and stop bottle and feed from a cup and this will be normal. Moreover, newborns will no pass motion everyday normally.

Please try to improve your nutrition. Eat high protein and high fibre diet. Spinach, groundnut+sesameseed husk powder , egg, bread will improve your milk production. Also try pumping milk with breast pump, the more you pump the more you produce milk. May be you kid is finding difficult to empty your breast completely. Try all these along with formula, breast milk is always best when compared to formulas.

Diarrhea In Children - How Can It Be Treated?

Diarrhea In Children - How Can It Be Treated?

Diarrhea occurs when the body is expelling germs out of it. An episode of diarrhea can last anywhere from a couple of days to a week. Dehydration, cramps, vomiting, nausea and fever often accompany diarrhea. Usually, children tend to get diarrhoea more than adults.

Diarrhea treatment according to causes behind it

  1. Treating diarrhea due to infectionSome common causes of diarrhea include infection from rotavirus, salmonella (a type of bacteria) and rarely giardia (a type of parasite). In children, virus is a common cause of diarrhea. Besides watery or loose stools, viral gastroenteritis infection symptoms include fever, headache, stomach ache and vomiting. Gastroenteritis diarrhoea can last for 5-14 days. During this time, fluid loss must be prevented. In younger children, oral rehydration solution (ORS) or breast milk is enough. Just feeding them water won’t replenish the potassium, sodium and other nutrients they lose. Older children, to prevent fluid loss, can be given ORS and popsicles to counter dehydration and vomiting.
  2. Treating diarrhea due to medications: Antibiotics or laxatives can cause diarrhea in children. If the diarrhea is mild, make sure your child is hydrated. If the antibiotics are causing diarrhoea, you need to continue medication, but do consult your doctor immediately.
  3. Treating diarrhea due to food poisoningWhen it comes to food poisoning induced diarrhea, the same method as countering infection-induced diarrhea should be followed. Keep your child hydrated and call your doctor.

Diarrhea and children - recognising dehydration

The most serious complication of diarrhea is dehydration, especially if the diarrhea is severe. Severe dehydration is critical as it can cause brain damage, seizure, even death. Your child may need immediate medical attention, if you notice the following symptoms:

  1. Light-headedness and dizziness
  2. Sticky, dark mouth
  3. Dark yellow urine
  4. No or few tears when crying
  5. Dry, cool skin
  6. Loss of energy

When should you visit a doctor

Diarrhea resolves within a few days, but it can have serious complications. Call your doctor if you notice signs such as:
1. Looks very sick
2. Diarrhea has persisted for more than 3 days
3. Your child is less than 6 months old
4. Your child is vomiting bloody yellow or green fluid
5. Seems dehydrated
6. The fever reads above 105 degree Fahrenheit
7. Bloody stools
8. Rashes
9. Stomach pain persists for more than 2 hours
10. Infrequent urination

10 Tips to Maintain Healthy Teeth :

10 Tips to Maintain Healthy Teeth :

10 Tips to Maintain Healthy Teeth :

“Be true to your teeth, they won’t be false to you.”

  1. Brushing :
  • Brush your teeth twice a day.
  • Night brushing is very important, because during sleep our mouth is at rest so there are more chances of accumulation of bacteria which cause further cavities and leads to disturbance in the oral cavity.
  •  Follow a proper brushing technique.

    2. Use a good fluoridated toothpaste with a right toothbrush. Toothpaste should have 1000ppm of fluoride and toothbrush should have a small and narrow head with soft bristles.

    3. Flossing :

  • Flossing helps to remove food stuck in between your teeth.
  • It can be done daily or 2-3 times a week.
  • Waxed dental flosses available in market are of Oral B, Colgate.

    4. Interdental Brush:

  • If the spaces between the teeth are wide, you can use an interdental brush.

    5. Oral Irrigation:

  • Now-a-days, a new dental aid is added which helps to clean the teeth, interdental areas, inside the gums and below the crowns more easily.
  • It is also known as dental “Water flosser” or “Oral irrigator” available in brands like waterpik, panasonic etc.

    6.  Drink plenty of water and rinse after every meal.

    7. Clean your tongue surface daily.

    8. Pit and Fissure Sealants:

  • The grinding teeth in a person mouth erupt at 12-16 years of age. They have deep grooves and pits in which food gets stuck. A Sealant is applied to these teeth which makes the grooves shallow and prevents food and bacteria from getting into the teeth and causing decay

    9 .Whitening - Home Remedies :

  • Add a pinch of baking soda in drinking water and rinse twice a day.
  •  Consume strawberries once a day or crushed strawberries applied to teeth helps as teeth whitener.

10.Visit your dentist every 6 months and get your scaling (cleaning) and polishing  done.

He most likely has stomach infection. Children don't tolerate the milk and solid foods in big amounts. It is best to give small amount of clear fluids frequently for a few hours after a syrup medicine to stop vomiting. You can try small amount of milk or semiisolid diet after 3-4 hours if no vomiting. Take him back to hospital if he is persistently vomiting.
