I am 24 year old male and I am suffering from double chin. What should I do to get rid off double chin very fast?

I can understand your problem, it seems to me you have some sort of double chin which is referred to as submental fat. Submental fat can result from weight gain, aging and genetics. Since you have noticed the deposition of fat beneath the chin recently, I would advise you to have certain life style modifications which may help you get rid of this condition like; 1. Avoid taking excess of fatty meals (veg & non-veg). This will prevent excess of fat beneath the chin. 2. If you are non-vegetarian, you can have baked chicken or fish which contain less fat or meat cooked with less oil 3. Avoid butter or desi ghee, instead use a butter substitute, 4. Drink plenty of water, avoid carbonated soft drinks 5. A regular exercise helps in decreasing the body fat If the above mentioned suggestions do not work, then you may have to consult a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist who is expert in facial cosmetic surgery for possible treatment by Liposuction which is a less invasive non surgical procedure. Another option could be use of Injection Deoxycholic acid which helps to liquefy fat especially from the double chin.

Your genetic background influences where your body fat is stored. In case your mother or father has fat stored in the abdomen, hips, waist or in the thigh, it is likely for you to develop deposits of fat in the same regions.

Circumstances of genetic fat

1. You may have a proper or a balanced BMI (body mass index) but still tend to develop bulges in areas, which are likely to make you look disproportional.

2. You may become obese by development of excess fat accumulation in the lower abdomen region, referred to as pannus. Extra fat may accumulate in your lower back and hips as well, which cannot be lost in spite of taking weight losing measures.

Liposuction to get rid of extra fat

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that allows you to remove genetic fat or any extra fat from the body, in order to change the body's shape. Liposuction does not remove cellulites and tightening of loose skin cannot be done.

Liposuction removes excess fat from the body by suction. Small, narrow tubes with blunt tips known as the cannulae are inserted through incisions in the skin surface. The tubes are moved under the skin to target the suction of fat deposits.

There are several types of liposuction techniques.

1. Tumescent liposuction: In this form of liposuction, a wetting solution such as lidocaine with a local anesthetic is injected into the patient before surgery. This causes the shrinking or constriction of blood vessels due to which it allows liposuction to be performed while the patient is under local anaesthesia. Blood loss and post surgical pains are reduced.

2. Suction assisted liposuction:This mode of liposuction also known as SAL is the most primary form of liposuction. It involves drawing out of fat using a vacuum.

3. Power assisted liposuction: This liposuction technique called PAL in short involves the process of SAL with an extra tool for increasing the motion of the cannula. The process is faster.

4. Ultrasound assisted liposuction: This process (UAL) involves the transmission of energy via a specialized hand piece for loosening and melting of fat. A greater volume of fat can be removed via UAL. VASER is a variation of the UAL method where an ultrasonic cannula with grooves helps in energy disruption to improve removal of fat.

5. Laser assisted liposuction: LAL is a newly developed liposuction technology where a laser works like an ultrasound for disruption and removal of fat cells. This mode is more efficient and involves less trauma.

Liposuction is an effective way to remove unwanted, genetic fat from your body, which may be harming your body image. However, liposuction is associated with severe side effects.

You have not mentioned your height therefore difficult to say how much excess weight you are carrying. Nevertheless if you want to reduce you have to change your food habits and lifestyle. Can you eat fruits when you are trying to loose weight? I currently have a fruit smoothie for breakfast, half an apple, one chiku, some mango, papaya, two dates, 2 table spoons of yoghurt, is this too many calories and sugar?

If the smoothie doesn't contain extra sugar then it's ok. But it is always better to have the fruit than its juice.

Hello you need to understand the concept of weight loss. It's a gradual process that requires cut down in calories under the guidance of a dietitian and regular exercise. Don't skip breakfast. Sleep for 7-9 hours per night. Avoid fried foods, sweets, carbonated drinks and processed foods. Include whole grains, sprouts, seasonal fruits and vegetables, salad vegetables like cucumber, kakri, onion, tomato etc. Include green tea 4-5 times a day. Drink plenty of water. Take 3 main meals and 2 side meals. Take flaxseed powder 1 tsp with lukewarm water on empty stomach. Thank you.

Balanced diet rich in proteins and fibre like- egg, chicken, fish, milk, curd, paneer, sprouts, oats, wholegrain cereals and pulses, fruits and vegetables (fibre) 2. Exercise- doing 40-50 minutes of moderate to high intensity activity for 4-5 days/ week will help (walking/jogging/swimming etc. Also being active by getting up from your chair within 1/2 hour, using staircase, parking your vehicle far from your office so that you walk are ways to improve calorie burning 3. Adding good quality fat like nuts and oilseeds-almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds (alsi) will help. 4. Rest for 7-8 hours to rejuvenate your system so it can work efficiently. 5. Dear Lybrate User, you may have come across a number of gimmicking advertisement of medicines which claim to decrease body weight in a very short time. Do not fall prey for such advertisement because the excess weight would not be shredded until each & every underlying cause of being overweight is diagnosed & treated. The basic role behind the process of accumulation of fat in human body is played by Metabolism. Metabolism is the set of life-sustaining chemical transformations within the cells of living organisms. The three main purposes of metabolism are the conversion of food/fuel to energy to run cellular processes, the conversion of food/fuel to building blocks for proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and some carbohydrates, and the elimination of nitrogenous wastes. Accumulation of fat indicates that a considerable amount of the calories which you are taking daily is not used up by the body & is stored as fat. In order to lose the excess fat you need to increase your rate of metabolism. Once your rate of metabolism or BMR is increased your body will use up the excess calories stored as fat in your body. First of all you need to rule out the possibility of the presence of any hormonal disturbance that may be affecting your metabolism. Just conduct a total Thyroid profile test of all your blood (also Serum Testosterone level in case of males). If the reports are within normal limits then you should proceed further to increase your metabolism. If you find any abnormalities in the report you should immediately consult a doctor.

Which green tea is beneficial for weight loss please suggest me. I am using Tetley lemon honey green tea and sometimes Lipton green tea. Is these are safe for me?

Green tea has antioxidants which are good for health in general. Similar antioxidants are present in most of the vegetables and fruits. However Anti-oxidants do not reduce any weight. There is no scientific evidence to show that Green Tea or Green Coffee can reduce any weight. There is no medicine or mix or herbs that can burn body fat. Body weight is due to extra fat/carbs consumed which gets stored as fat. This fat can only be reduced by burning it with Exercise + Light Natural Diet.

For weight loss, diet & lifestyle changes are needed. Early morning you can have 2 glass plain water at room temperature before brushing teeth. 1. Have small frequent meals at regular intervals instead of 3-4 large ones 2. Eat slowly chewing each bite 15-20 times 3. Drink 3 litres water daily 4. Brisk walk daily for 1 hr 5. Walk instead of hiring transport, avoid sitting continuously for an hr, take 15 mins light walk post meals, avoid lying down within an hr of a meal, take part in some form of active sports (football/ cricket/badminton/tennis/squash/boxing/karate, join zumba dance/aerobic/ swimming classes) 6. Avoid junk/ processed/canned/ready to eat/ fried/ sugary/ outside foods, soft & hard drinks, chocolates, ice cream, sweets 7. Replace simple carbs-potato, sugar, sago, refined grains (maida, biscuit, cake, white bread, noodles, white rice) with complex carbs-whole fruits with peel, vegetables, salads, whole legumes (sprouts, rajma, soyabean), whole grains (atta, bajra, ragi, jowar, barley, dalia, suji, atta bread, brown rice) 8. Avoid eating in front of tv.
