Hi, I have tonsillitis problems and yellow stones since 5 years I'm underweight too please help.
If you are getting repeated throat infections particularly the tonsils than you need to get rid of them surgically, there is no harm in it, if you get 7-8 infections in ayear of moderate degree than surgery is the only option.

I am suffering from dry cough for the last two weeks and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what should be done?

Fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology, DNB (Respiratory Diseases)
Pulmonologist, Thane
You might be suffering for infection in your lungs or in the covering around the lungs. Get a complete blood count (cbc) and xray chest (pa) done. Visit your family physician with these reports and he can do the further treatment required. Coughing for more than 2 weeks can be a sign of tuberculosis.

How to cure sinus problems without surgery? Is pranayama beneficial to overcome it?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello. There are few yoga poses which are beneficial for sinusitis like Sutraneti, Jalneti, Kapalbhati, Bhastrika Pranayam, Anulom-Vilom, Suryabhedi Pranayam, Gomukhasana, Bhujangaasana. But perform these under guidance of a qualified yoga-teacher (as many poses are prohibited as per your medical condition). Medication: You can also have homoeopathic medication as there is no side-effects of these medicines like kali bich. , hepar sulph., calc. sulph. , kali sulph., hydrastis, etc. Selection of medicine depends upon the collection of signs and symptoms.

I am 31 years old. I get continuously smoking. But now I have an cough problem. I have control smoking. So what will do now?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
There is only the belief that you have controlled smoking: smoking is bad, period, whether controlled or not. You need to give up smoking forever and immediately. Even if your cough is not related to your smoking, that you have had this problem of coughing is of conncern and tobacco consumption will definitely aggravate it. The lining in the throat is filled with tiny hair like structures called cilia. Cilia are tiny hair-like organelles that reside on the surface of cells. There are two types of cilia: motile and non-motile. The former continuously move in a wave-like fashion in a single direction, while the latter function as sensory organs that respond to stimulus. The most common reason to suffer damaged or paralyzed cilia, however, is smoking. Normally, healthy ones in the bronchial tubes work in sync with specialized cells that produce mucous to capture and remove impurities from the lungs. Smokers, on the other hand, are subjected to about 7,000 toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke, including arsenic, methane, and carbon monoxide. This damages the organelles, and dirt, environmental pollutants, and toxins from cigarette smoke remain in the lungs. Furthermore, these toxins migrate from the lungs via the bloodstream to other organs. In response to the presence of excess irritants, mucous cells in the lungs become stimulated to produce more mucous than they normally would. Of course, with damaged cilia, the lungs have no means of moving the mucous out. This usually results in an unproductive cough. In fact, the damage caused by smoking leaves the smoker at significantly higher risk for frequent respiratory infections, or chronic bronchitis. Continued smoking may eventually lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema) or lung cancer. In fact, smoking eventually destroys the cilia, which may then be displaced by an excessive number of basal cells or squamous cells. Over time, these cells may become cancerous. They may also become rogue, escaping through lung tissue and invading other parts of the body.

My husband diagnosed with T. B and accelerated B. P. One year ago. Now his report is OK. But he started to take alcohol daily. After taking alcohol his face become red. Advise me.

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear Anju, Alcohol acts on blood vessels. So face becoming red is okay. But motivate him to stop taking alcohol. Tell him to take help if he can not try by himself. There are good drugs for withdrawal symptoms and also for reducing the craving for alcohol.

I had severe tonsillitis in November 2015 & got treated with an ent he removed the pus through local anesthesia & later the receptionist injected 2 injections. The area around the injection is blueish in color&got a lump & pain in the area for 3-4 weeks later pain disappeared now its almost 4months still I have have the lump on the injection side. Is there any danger do I need any Dr. consultation?

M S, MBBS
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
I am not sure whether it was a tonsillitis or peri tonsillar abscess. If it was peri tonsillar abscess, then it is advisable to get the tonsils removed. If it was tonsillitis, then nothing much to worry. For lump at the injection site, that could be due to previous injection only. I do not suspect anything serious. If you have concerns, visit your doctor for examination.

Hello my 10 years old son is suffering from asthma. Usko din me do baar inhaler lene ko doctor ne btaya hi. Kya ye itne chote bache ke liye safe hi? iska koi side effect to nhi. Inhaler khale pet lete hi ya khana kha bhi le sakte hi. Or dono dose ke beech kitna gap hona chahiye. Please tell me soon.

M.B.B.S., Diploma in Family Medicine, Fellowship in Diabetes (Liverpool), Advanced Clinical Course in Cardiology (USA), Certified Diabetologist from USA, CCEBDM, MD - Consultant Physician
General Physician, Hooghly
Always wash your mouth thoroughly after using inhalers. If u dont wash your mouth it may cause oral sore sometimes. But, you dont need to worry much. If inhalers are prescribed in right dose, it is safe for child. Use zerostat vt spacer device for taking puffs. Khana khane ki sath inhalers ka koi relation nehi hai. It can be taken before or after meal.
