Dear lybrate-user! This is not normal. This is what we call brittle diabetes. U have severe fluctuations in blood glucose with episodes of severe hyperglycemia and hypoglycemias. This is not at all good. I would prefer to admit you do a proper glucose charting and adjust your medicines so that this can be stopped and your blood glucose can be stabilized in the normal range of 100-150 mg/dl.

Mr. lybrate-user, If you have diabetes and if it is not in good control, then fungal infections of the skin are quite often seen. Hence, primary need is to achieve a very strict blood glucose control with FBS closer to 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. Plus appropriate antifungal treatment should be taken both local and systemic to control fungal infection. BP also should be maintained between 120 to 130 ?70 to 80 mm Hg. There is no reason to feel sad, because if correct treatment is taken and all precautions are observed one can remain absolutely fit these conditions. However, because of your excess rather morbid obesity (BMI 53.57 kgs/M2) it is very difficult to bring all these conditions in control. Best option for you is to consider bariatric surgery, which will reduce weight and even control diabetes and hypertension. Thanks.

How type 2 diabetes is different from type 1 diabetes?

CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
How type 2 diabetes is different from type 1 diabetes?
T1 diabetes usually occurs in young age group. It is an autoimmune disorder, where anti bodies against beta cells of pancreas are produced affecting their function and insulin production is almost totally stopped. This can only be treated by insulin injection. No oral drugs work. T2 is usually occurs in comparatively older age group. Now a days seen even in teen age and young adults. Occurs because there is lack of insulin secretion or resistance to the action of insulin or both. Reasons for t2dm are said to be over weight, apple shaped body in men and pear shaped in women, lack of physical activity, family history of diabetes, migration to bigger cities, to metros etc. This is a preventable disease. Can be controlled by oral anti diabetic drugs as well as insulin.

Too much cholesterol in the blood can lead to cardiovascular disease. What you eat has a direct impact on your cholesterol level. In fact, a diet rich in fiber and other cholesterol-lowering foods may help lower cholesterol as much as statin medication for some people. Working with a registered dietitian and doctor is the key to develop and maintain a successful health program to manage it. I will inform you on how to make diet, lifestyle changes, make you understand instructions for taking medication because it won't work if you don't take it as directed. Consult privately for a holistic dietary therapy to solve your problems.

Mr. Lybrate-user, a person with diabetes should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products, high fat milk products, highly processed foods. Avoid mango, banana, grapes and chikkoo. Should consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits (100 g a day). Use whole grain products and whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Diabetes? if blood sugar is consistantly high, over time it can affect the heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, and other parts of the body. These problems are called complications. Sometimes people with diabetes don't realize that they have the disease until they begin to have other health problems. For example, a doctor or health care provider may detect signs of diabetes damage even though the patient does not know that he/she has the disease.

Yes. Sometimes patients have been moving around for years with diabetes and they come to know about it only when they have either massive heart attack or sudden loss of vision or non healing ulcer. That's why most of the diabetes patients baseline diabetic profile with blood urine tests, sonography, ecg, eye and foot tests are done to detect early diabetes complications in newly detected diabetic patients.
