My lip get dry very fast always during days and night and it gets harder and the skin peels out regularly watz the reason behind this. please ans.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Chapped or dry lips are a common problem that can be painful and unattractive. Common symptoms are dryness, redness, cracking, flaking, and tender or sore lips. Some of the main causes are vitamin deficiency, allergic reaction, dehydration, smoking, excessive licking of lips, sun exposure and harsh weather. Castor oil is good treatment for dry and chapped lips. • Simply apply castor oil to your lips several times a day. • You can also make a soothing treatment using one teaspoon of castor oil, one teaspoon of glycerin and a few drops of fresh lemon juice. Mix it well and apply it on your lips before going to bed. In the morning, wash it off with a cotton ball dipped in lukewarm water. Repeat this daily until your lips are healed. • Homoeopathic LIP BALM ( BAKSON LAB) Apply twice daily

As lichen planus is an auto immune disease hence we can control it but not totally cure it and avoid any triggering factor, take folic acid regularly, eat a healthy diet, always be stress free, exercise regularly.

Fever with chills, swelling in the area where the adult worms are present enlargement of the lymph nodes recurrent episodes of fever with chills can occur inflammatory changes develop in the lymphatics and in the lymph nodes. (this is usually associated with fever and local swelling.) the inflammation in the lymphatics spreads to the neighbouring areas and also spreads in a reverse direction. The lymphatics can become thickened and inflamed. The veins in the region can get involved and this results in inflammatory changes in them.

Hello, you are most probably suffering from a fungal infection. Remember to wear loose cotton clothing specially when at home. Avoid hot humid climate, keep the affected area dry and avoid synthetic innerwear. Do not use any over-the-counter medication over this area as it may be containing certain ingredients which may the increase the problem. A course of oral and topical antifungal medicine eg, fluconazole or terbinafine is usually given for this problem. A photograph of your condition will be needed for specific diagnosis and treatment.

I am 23 years old male from Andhra Pradesh. I am taking coaching now in New Delhi. Can you suggest me a balanced diet for being healthy according to present climatic conditions in New Delhi?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
To remain healthy you should follow 3 steps in your life 1.BALANCED DIET 2.EARLY MORNING BRISK MORNING WALK for 30 minutes and 10 minutes evening walk after Dinner 3.DRINK 6-8 Glasse of water daily. As 60% of our body is made of water, it acts as a carrier of essential nutrients inside our body. Loosing as little as 5% of body's weight as water can cause headache, fatigue and lower your muscle strength. To stay healthy, an adult should drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday. Balanced Diet= 60% Carbohydrates + 20% Fats + 20% Proteins 1. Carbohydrates: Our main source of energy. Stored in liver and muscles. Carbohydrates are used the most by our body duringexercise. Hence, it is important for people who exercise regularly to consume a diet rich in carbohydrates. (a) Instant/rapid carbohydrates energy sources: Banana, Milk, Sweets, Sugarcane juice. (b) Slow carbohydrates energy sources: Beans, Bread, Cereals, Potato, Pulses, Rice. 2. Proteins: Essential for growth, repair of muscle, skin, hair and body tissues. Protein deficiency leads to low immunity, hairfall, feeling of tiredness. Proteins are not stored in our body as any excess protein is converted to energy or fat. Hence, a person requires protein intake every day. When the body does not get enough carbohydrates to fuel itself, it falls back on protein bank. That is why people who follow starvation diets or go on fasting lose muscle tissue. (a) Major protein sources: Egg white(white portion), Milk, Soybeans/Soymilk, Fish, Cheese, Tofu. (b) Other protein sources: Beans with wheat, Nuts, Curd, Yogurt (Dahi). 3. Fats: Required and healthy when taken in small amounts. Excess fat leads to weight gain, increase in bad cholesterol (LDL) and heartproblems (a) Major fats sources: Egg yolk (Yellow portion), Avocados, Whole Milk, Butter, Cheese, Nuts. (b) Other fats sources: Corn, Vegetable/Olive oil, Biscuits, Flaxseeds(San Beej). 4. Vitamins and Minerals: Critical for normal functioning of organs and processes within our body. They do not provide energy directly but work behind the scenes to break down food into energy. 5. Fiber: It helps retain water and in making our stools softer to avoid constipation. Intake should be 25 to 35 grams a day. 6. Calories: A measure of how much energy food or drink contains. On an average, a man needs around 2,000 calories a day and a woman 1700 calories a day to maintain his weight and good health. Number varies by person depending upon weight, age and how active the lifestyle is. 7. Guideline: Each day have 3 main meals, 2 snacks, 5 pieces of fruit and at least 1 glass of milk.

Hi. My weight is 50 kgs and height 170 cms, how to increase my body weight and health.

MSc
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Chandigarh
Hi lybrate-user weight problem is one of the most common problems that affect millions of people. Approaching nutritionists and gym instructors for effective weight loss plans are effective fixes for this problem. Strangely, just like weight gain, people do struggle to gain a few pounds. It has been medically proven that being underweight too can cause severe health problems. Usually, people tend to think that following a weight gain diet is completely doable. But that is not completely true. It requires the same amount of control and will power as one would need while following a weight gain diet plan, which recommends the intake of high-calorie foods. The idea of a weight gain diet is to put on healthy weight and steer clear of saturated fats. Let us take a look at a few weight gain foods that could change your lives the natural way. Whole milk milk is an important beverage for the most of us. From a creamy cup of coffee to a healthy bowl of oatmeal/ cereals soaked in milk, there are several ways of enjoying this essential source of nourishment. While a weight gain diet plan would not require you to give up on milk, you will have to switch from fat-free or skim milk to whole milk. It is high in essential nutrients, vitamins and contains healthy calories. One glass of whole fat milk contains 3.25% fat and 150 calories. It nourishes your body and helps you gain weight faster. Cheese if you love cheese, then stick to it. Cheese is rich in calories, healthy nutrients, and vitamins. It supplements your body with enough protein and calcium to build stronger bones. Being a milk product, cheese has a high fat content, which helps to gain weight. Try out different types of cheese and use them in your food for garnishing or as a dip. Butter another essential ingredient that can be included in your diet while on a weight gain regime is butter. It is rich in good saturated fats and nutrients that help you to gain weight faster. Also, powerful fatty acids and vitamins make sure you are in the pink of health always. However, you need to monitor the intake saturated weight gain foods as too much intake could add to cholesterol. So, layer your toasts with some butter and enjoy every bite. Dried fruit and nuts the perfect food items to snack on while on a weight gain diet are wholesome nuts and other dried fruits. Full of nutrients and healthy fats, dried fruits and nuts provide you with essential fiber and vitamins. Add almonds, walnuts, or pecans to your daily diet. Include them in your cereals during breakfast or add them to your salads for a nice crunch. Potatoes carbohydrates are an essential part of your diet when you want to gain weight. The best source of carbohydrates is potatoes. They are rich in fiber, vitamins and proteins too. It is recommended to eat potatoes with their skin, as the skin is a rich source of protein. Add them to your main course or have them as a side dish to ensure healthy weight gain. Eggs eggs make a perfect breakfast item, especially if you are on a weight gain plan. Whisk up an omelet or scrambled egg for a quick meal and get nutrients in a jiffy. Egg yolk is known for the healthy cholesterol and essential nutrients it contains. Packed with omega-3 fatty acids and protein, eggs are the perfect wholesome weight gain foods. Pasta bring an exotic twist to your weight gain diet with some pasta. Rich in fiber, starch and carbohydrates, pasta is the answer to all your underweight issues. Available in many shapes and sizes, pastas can be made in a variety of recipes. Add chicken or vegetables to increase its nutritional properties. Lean red meat good news for meet lovers! you can relish the different preparations of lean red meat while on a weight gain diet. Rich in proteins and other nutrients, red meat adds to your weight faster. It is recommended to opt for lean cuts. So, keep lean red meat on the top of your shopping list the next time you buy weight gain foods. Also read: benefits of drinking hot water peanut butter enjoy your snack times with scrumptious peanut butter toast. Peanut butter is an ideal choice from weight gain foods for people striving to put on weight. It is loaded with fats and protein, adding some healthy calories to your weight. While selecting your peanut butter, make sure it does not contain sugar. It is recommended to opt for more natural or organic peanut butter. Fruits fruits are weight gain foods that are perfect for in-between meals. When following a weight gain regime, one can eat sugar-rich fruits like mangoes, avocados, bananas, and pineapples. Offering you essential nutrients and energy, these fruits are a must-add to your daily diet. Conclusion underweight people can now attain a healthy body by incorporating the above-mentioned food sources in your weight gain diet. They help add good calories to your every day meal plan, keeping you away from health disorders.

I am planing to do bodybuilding what are diets tips I need follow and what time is good for workout.

MSc
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Chandigarh
Hi 1. Eating 5 to 6 meals a day in order to gain weight, start eating 5-6 meals a day by breaking them into parts. Eating a lot at once may cause indigestion if the body fails to absorb all nutrients. Eat in small amounts, even if you are not hungry and there will be an increase in appetite from day to day. The aim should be to have a generously portioned breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two to three snacks in between. 2. Start weight training if you build your muscles through weight training, it will convert the extra weight into lean body mass and also stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle increases the rate of metabolism. When you start exercising you will often experience extreme muscle soreness but it goes away in 3-5 days. 3. Load up on protein besides weight training, a protein-rich diet can help you gain mass. Eating a meal heavy in protein shortly after finishing exercise can be highly effective in adding extra pounds to your body. However, a diet focused only on lean protein is not helpful. It is important to make sure that your diet has plenty of fat in it. Eat foods rich in protein like cheese, meat, eggs, etc to gain weight in a healthy manner. 4. Workout your entire body a lot of people focus only on training the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Firstly, it will give you a disproportionate body; and it will make you prone to injuries. Therefore, it's important to work out the entire body for a complete and balanced look. 5. Drink your calories to reach the calorie requirement only by eating may be tough. Drinking milk, milkshakes or protein shakes with little or no sugar can be an effective way to load up on the calorie requirements. 6. Be patient and believe in yourself gaining weight quickly in a healthy manner is unrealistic. Every body type is different and it takes months to gain weight. Living healthy by eating the right diet will increase your strength. It is also important to keep following the routine even if you don't see any gains. Caution: junk food and fried foods must be avoided; although have a tendency to add more fat to your body but are very low in vitamins and minerals which are essentially required to keep you really fit. Related tip: the most powerful way to put on weight - snacking right.

Dear sir I am 16 years old and I am loosing my hair and my hair density is becoming less day by day.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
In general, you lose about 50-100 strands of hair each day, but the loss is not visible as new hair grow in their place. However, if you lose more than a 100 strands in a day and more than 200 strands on the day you shampoo, you may be suffering from what is known as excessive hair fall. Certain factors or reasons may cause you to lose hair at an alarming rate, which are, 1. Thyroid problems Your thyroid is responsible for your body’s overall functioning. The hormones (primarily T4 and T3), which it produces help in regulating metabolic activities. Problems with your thyroid gland can cause your hormone levels to rise or fall to unhealthy levels, which can result in hair fall. You can improve the functioning of your thyroid gland through a diet rich in calcium, iodine, magnesium, protein and Vitamins A, B and C. 2. Scalp infections-Infections of the scalp can also be one of the factors that may cause your hair to fall at an alarming rate. Of the different scalp infections, the ringworm scalp infection is the most common. Although this fungal infection can occur in any part of your body, when it develops on your scalp, you end up losing clumps of hair. Alongside the use of anti-fungal medications, even anti-fungal shampoos and creams can provide you with respite from the problem. 3. Poor diet, Gorging on unhealthy foods or going on a crash diet can result in the lack of essential nutrients in your body, which are required to maintain healthy hair. Furthermore, since hair is made of protein, having a balanced diet consisting of proteins and vitamin- rich foods is a must. 4. Stress gives rise to certain conditions such as alopecia areata, telogen effluvium (hair loss caused post-pregnancy or surgery) and trichotillomania (an impulsive need to pull your hair out), which can cause you to lose significant amount of hair. To avert a hair loss crisis caused by stress, make it a point to do some simple stress-reducing exercises, such as meditation or breathing exercises. 5. Using hair styling products like hair colours and straighteners can cause you to experience hair fall problems. Your hair not only becomes dull and dry due to their use, but also becomes weak and brittle, leading to a gradual loss of hair. Regular oiling and use of homemade hair masks are some of the ways you can try to counter the negative effects of these hair styling products. 6. The drugs that are used in the treatment of cancer not only destroy the fast-growing cancer cells, but also the healthy blood cells in your body. For this reason, consuming foods that possess cancer-fighting properties (like oatmeal, tomato, almonds, garlic etc) is a sure-shot way of fighting the disease as well as averting any side-effects that may arise because of the treatment. 7. Alopecia areata. Lastly, hair fall can also be caused by alopecia areata, which is a kind of hair loss that takes place when your body’s immune system erroneously attacks your hair follicles, and prevents growth of new hair. 8. Genetics. The origin of your severe hair fall or baldness can be traced back to your ancestors. So, your genes can be a factor behind your hair fall problem. If this is the cause, your body then becomes unable to produce new hair. Apart from the changes that you can make in your lifestyle to address the causes of your hair fall, there are also techniques out there that you can employ to permanently treat your problem, such as platelet rich plasma, mesotherapy, stem cell therapy, ozone activated platelet rich plasma & hair transplant.

I am having itching problem inside my throat and nose meeting point and I always feel like cold. Due to which I have hair fall problem. Is it so? please find me some solution.

M. sc Psychology, BHMS
Homeopath, Hyderabad
There is no link b/w your allergic cold/rhinitis or laryngitis & to your hair fall. Here the itching is completely related to respiratory part which is allergic origin. But hair fall is due to some other reason. For this cold & itching/throat, you can take internal medicines as well practice salt water gargle, daily 2-3 times, & take boiled milk with pepper powder or dry ginger +turmeric, which will reduce that irritation& gives soothing, cold also will come down. Take luke warm water only, avoid, cold of any thing.
