  7. You should use a pedometer to calculate how much you are moving each day while exercising.

  9. You must increase your amount of fibre intake. Fibre is important for diabetic patients, which keeps the digestive processes to run smoothly. Your cholesterol level decreases and blood sugar levels may reduce if you take enough fibre.
  10. You should chew gum as it keeps your mouth busy. It makes you crave for less food.
  11. You should eat on smaller plates. This is a psychological trick which makes you consume less amount of food and your sugar and calorie levels are maintained.
  12. Before taking any food item or eating out, gather information about them. Learn about diabetes friendly food options at restaurants and check which products you should avoid buying from the market.
  13. You should get your blood sugar levels checked regularly. You should check it several times a day to learn how your body responds to food.
  14. Circulation problems may cause issues with your feet, which may lead to a lack of sensation, cuts and scrapes. Check your feet regularly to notice changes.

If it is non-alcoholic, then there is nothing to worry about. It will not affect the baby much. But it will better if she avoids it until her breastfeeding time is over.

What are symptoms of stammering in the children. My son is 2.5year old and as advised by his play school teacher he stammer some time. Sometimes we also felt, he like to say something but think. But at the same time, if he is learning to speak is it still be called stammering! Pls advise.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician,
Please do not take yourself and pose undue anxiety over your child be calm, and help your child to repeat the stammered word or sentences calmly. You can wait and watch for some time, meanwhile helping child to speak and avoiding anxiety. If it persists, speech therapy will definitely help the child to come out of this. So need to worry!

My baby is 3 months old. He has chest congestion from last 4 days. I am giving him maxtra 6 drops thrice and asthalin 1.5 ml thrice a day. Now the mucus became loose and it came into his throat. He becomes very uncomfortable at that time. What to do ?

MD Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Vadodara
Asthalin is rarely required in children less than 6 months until and unless prescribed by the pediatrician due to its side effects of increase in heart rate. Also babies usually swallows the mucus and there is no harm in that. If the respiratory rate is high with difficulty in breathing and there is fever visit your pediatrician. If no other complaints then it should be viral and will be relieved in 3 days.

seizure control - important do's and don't

MD - Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Kangra

Any patient who is having seizures or epilepsy should take medicines regularly. A patient who has seizures and on medicine should be seizure-free for a minimum of two years before tapering of dosage. Most of the patients who become seizure free for few months or a year tries to decrease their dose on their own and sometimes stop it, that increases their chance of recurrence of seizures. It's very harmful because it affects their natural history of the disease and the seizures which could be controlled on single drug become drug resistant seizures. When a patient is considered for tapering of dosage. His drug is tapered slowly over few months.

Passage of urine depends on the amount of water consumed. If you are continuing breastfeeding nothing to worry.
