For running purpose your nose should be patent to raise vital capacity if a person suffering from nasal obstruction with mild to moderate nasal allergies it means most probably he is suffering from dns (deviated nasal septum. Nasal obstruction is because of the deviated portion of the nasal septum (this is the bony partition of the nose cavity. Allergies are because of the hampered muco-ciliary mechanism (normally mucus is produced in the nose to moisten our nose cavity, oral cavity, and help food bolus to move downward, this mucus is basically moves on the cilia of the nasal mucosa) this mechanism gets hampered and mucus start accumulating in the nose and sinus cavity which is why thick mucus comes from nose in patients of nose obstruction and person develops sinusiits. When a surgeon removes the nasal septum deviation has not been removed properly the symptoms persists, and patient thinks that the nose bone has again regrown. It is not because of regrowth but because of half surgery done or due to the non removal of the deviation (reason can be many) nowadays nasal septal deviation can be removed endoscopically.

Sir, I am suffering from tinnitus for last two years kindly give me a suggestion what I can do.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Although bothersome, tinnitus usually isn't a sign of something serious. Although it can worsen with age, for many people, tinnitus can improve with treatment. Treating an identified underlying cause sometimes helps. Other treatments reduce or mask the noise, making tinnitus less noticeable. For many people, certain adjustments make the symptoms less bothersome. These tips may help: Avoid possible irritants. Reduce your exposure to things that may make your tinnitus worse. Common examples include loud noises, caffeine and nicotine. Cover up the noise. In a quiet setting, a fan, soft music or low-volume radio static may help mask the noise from tinnitus. Manage stress. Stress can make tinnitus worse. Stress management, whether through relaxation therapy, biofeedback or exercise, may provide some relief. Reduce your alcohol consumption. Alcohol increases the force of your blood by dilating your blood vessels, causing greater blood flow, especially in the inner ear area.In many cases, tinnitus is the result of something that can't be prevented. However, some precautions can help prevent certain kinds of tinnitus. Use hearing protection. Over time, exposure to loud noise can damage the nerves in the ears, causing hearing loss and tinnitus. If you use chain saws, are a musician, work in an industry that uses loud machinery or use firearms (especially pistols or shotguns), always wear over-the-ear hearing protection. Turn down the volume. Long-term exposure to amplified music with no ear protection or listening to music at very high volume through headphones can cause hearing loss and tinnitus. Take care of your cardiovascular health. Regular exercise, eating right and taking other steps to keep your blood vessels healthy can help prevent tinnitus linked to blood vessel disorders.

There is harshness in my throat tell me a medicine.

MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist,
There is harshness in my throat tell me a medicine.
Considering you have acne also, it suggests that you have a predisposition to allergy. Allergy means your body reaction to anything outside your body or anything inhaled or ingested. Harshness in throat means you have a dry throat with poor lubrication and thus leading to dry cough, harshness and itching at times. Consider gargling daily 2-3 times with plain luke warm water. Avoid talking a length, take breaks. Don't forcibly clear your throat all the time. Avoid irritating food and liquids.

I am suffering from sinus infection from the past 6 months. And I had consulted a ENT specialist. It was seems to be ok last month. But again I am facing the same problem. Whqt is the cure for this disease from its root?

MBBS, MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Ahmedabad
Generally sinus infection is preceded by allergy. You must avoid your allergens to prevent cold which in turn prevents sinusitis. Try to avoid dust smokes perfumes and pollutants. Use facemask in such situations. Prevention is better than cure. Take regular steam inhalation. But if you have structural block in your nose and sinus that has to correct surgically.
