Everyday when I wake up in the morning, my mouth is filled with dirty liquid that's smell very bad and I have to split it out. What's that and why is it?

That's because of calculus and plaque deposited on your teeth and gums. Visit a dentist. After proper cleansing of teeth and gums your problem will b solved. For maintenance of healthy condition you should brush twice in proper method.

I have hole in my teeth and feeling pain when I take cold food or drink. What should I do?

Go to a dentist for xray of that tooth. Then only it can be judged that filling will be sufficient or root canal treatment is required. Hope you get well soon:)

Tooth sensitivity

Dentist, Mumbai
Tooth sensitivity
Tooth sensitivity can affect one or more teeth. It’s most common when you eat or drink something hot, cold, sweet, or sour. Sometimes a breath of cold air can set it off. The pain can be sharp and sudden and can shoot deep into the nerve endings of your teeth.
Steps to Reduce Tooth Sensitivity
The good news is there are many ways to control sensitive teeth. You can:

Brush and floss regularly. Use proper brushing and flossing techniques to thoroughly clean all parts of your teeth and mouth.
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Brush gently and carefully around the gum line so you don’t remove gum tissue.
Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Several brands are available. Regular use should make teeth less sensitive. You may need to try several brands to find the product that works best for you. Another tip: Spread a thin layer on the exposed tooth roots with your finger or a Q-tip before you go to bed. Use a fluoridated toothpaste, not a tartar control one.
Watch what you eat. Avoid lots of highly acidic foods and drinks.
Use fluoridated dental products. Using a fluoridated mouth rinse daily can decrease sensitivity. Ask your dentist about products available for home use.
Don’t grind your teeth. Use a mouth guard at night.
See your dentist every 6 months (or sooner, depending on your condition).
If you still have discomfort, talk to your dentist. There may be a procedure that can help. He might recommend:

White fillings(bonding) to cover exposed root surfaces
Fluoride varnishes applied to the exposed root surface
Dentin sealers applied to the exposed root surface

All individuals requires scaling (cleaning) to be done atleast once in 6 months to maintain our oral hygiene clean. Our toothbrush is not much finely designed to clean all the plaque and calculi in the interdental areas of the teeth, which is the area where most of the calculus accumulate much and has to be removed regularly using scalers by the dentist. So pls do visit a dentist for scaling.

My teeth being yellow. I'm using good past but the color is still. What will have to do for this.

Dentist, Bangalore
There are several causes of tooth discoloration, including: Foods/drinks. Coffee, tea, colas, wines, and certain fruits and vegetables (for example, apples and potatoes) can stain your teeth. Poor dental hygiene. Inadequate brushing and flossing.... Here is home remedy for brighter teeth--- Mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Wipe your teeth and any extra saliva off of them with a paper towel. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply. Leave the paste on for 1 minute, then rinse, so as to avoid the acid effecting enamel. If you are using just water you can leave it on for up to 3 minutes. for faster result you can go for TEETH BLEACHING from dentist...

My tongue got cut by teeth. The mouth started bleeding. A small layer of tongue about 1 cm is up raised. Please suggest on recovery methods.

MDS Prosthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Dehradun
Dear Sir, When the tongue gets cut by teeth accidentally, it heals on it own because of the presence of saliva. However, a deep cut is painful and you can do the following for a speedy recovery and comfort. You can suck on some ice cubes, it will give instant pain relief and also stop bleeding. Further, salt water rinses should be done to prevent any infections. Also, you must avoid spicy food till your tongue gets healed.

Hello, pain could be because of tooth decay or eruption of wisdom tooth, you need to visit a dentist and get it checked. Get an x-ray done if required. If there is cavity get it filled. If there is infection to the root of the tooth, you need to get it treated. If the pain is because of wisdom tooth you can do salt water rinses, this will give you temporary relief. If required get it removed.

Oil Pulling - Miracle or Fad?

Dentist, Mumbai
Oil Pulling - Miracle or Fad?

After multiple patients have asked us about the authenticity of oil pulling as a technique, here's what we have to say:

There is no denying all of us wait for a miracle cure to that terrible disease called dental decay. Much of a dentists or a dental hygienists time goes into answering the question,

why do cavities happen? or how do I prevent cavities?

While people usually assume the answer is brushing and flossing there are some lesser known ancient techniques and some ultramodern gadgets that have contributed to our arsenal of options to keep your mouth healthy.

Oil pulling being one of them has been in the limelight of late.

What is oil pulling?

This oral therapy is a type of ayurvedic medicine that dates back 3, 000 years. It involves swishing approximately 1 tablespoon of oil typically coconut, sesame, or sunflower oil in semisolid form (as shown in the pic) in your mouth for about 20 minutes and then spitting it out.

Start with just 5 minutes a day. Twenty minutes of swishing is a long time, and while the longer you pull, the more bacteria you'll remove, 5 or 10 minutes will still offer some benefit.

A gentle swishing, pushing, and sucking the oil through the teeth is all that's required

Don't swallow. if you find it hard not to, you likely have too much oil in your mouth, spit it out and try again with a smaller amount. just discard the used oil into the nearest cup or trash can.

Why oil pulling? how does it work?

Recent studies show that oil pulling helps against gingivitis, plaque, and microorganisms that cause bad breath.

How? most microorganisms inhabiting the mouth consist of a single cell, cells are covered with a lipid, or fatty, membrane, which is the cell's skin. When these cells come into contact with oil, a fat, they naturally adhere to each other.

Which oil?

Use coconut oil. While you can get the same bacteria-fighting benefits with sesame or sunflower oil, coconut oil has the added benefit of lauric acid, which is well-known for its anti-microbial agents. Also, a recent study found that coconut oil may help prevent tooth decay.

coconut and sunflower oil aren't the only oils with dental health benefits. For irritated, inflamed gums, rub a little vitamin e oil directly on the surface. It's rich in antioxidants, easily absorbed, and helps regenerate healthy gum tissue.

Additional benefits

Reducing decay
Whitening teeth by keeping clean and smooth surfaces that do not lodge food.
Eliminates bad breath
Preventing gum infections caused by harmful bacteria in the mouth

Expert tip

It doesn't reverse the effects of tooth decay, but it's a great supplemental therapy to reduce the bacterial count in the mouth thereby decreasing the likelihood of decay and other dental and systemic diseases.

The only disclaimer we would want to put in is

Do not ingest or swallow the oil in all your enthusiasm and,
Don't skip brushing and flossing. Oil pulling should never replace routine dental visits and traditional home oral care.

While oil pulling can't change your life or make you never need to go to a dentist again -try it for yourself, if it reduces your chances of decay and maybe even helps you ace your next dental visit with no new cavities.

We say thumbs up! pull away!

Please try this safe and natural practice and let us know how you find it in the comments section.

I have been suffering from mouth ulcers since 5 year so let me know about right way to remove ulcers from root.

Dentist, Mumbai
Mouth ulcers are mostly due to increased stress, reduced sleep, diet nutrition deficiency, viral infection, fever and hormonal disturbances. As you have long term problem of recurring ulceration you should look into your diet and the stress factor. Eat a healthy balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables to increase your fibre intake, try meditation to reduce the stress level. Also, take a over the counter multi-vitamin preparation daily. A more detailed regimen of medication can be suggested by your dentist after a detailed history and clinical examination.
