Thread Lifting - Know The Benefits & Risks Attached To It!

Thread Lifting - Know The Benefits & Risks Attached To It!

While everyone wants to enjoy a youthful looking healthy and glowing skin, the skin aging is inevitable. The signs of aging such as wrinkles, facial sagging or fine line can indeed be depressing, especially for women. Of late, the cosmetic industry has been experiencing a mercurial boom. There are many effective procedures the enhance the facial skin (skin rejuvenation, facelift, to name a few). The Thread Lifting, also known as the Thread Facelift is one such procedure that has been slowly making its presence felt. In this article, we will mainly focus on the Thread Facelift procedure, its advantages and also the associated risk.

What is the Thread Facelift?

True to its name, the Thread Facelift is a minimally invasive procedure that has been specifically designed to deal with the facial sagging and the other early signs of skin aging, thereby giving the face a much-needed lift.

Compared to the different traditional facelift surgeries and procedure, the Thread Facelift is relatively safe and hassle-free.

The Thread Facelift Procedure

  1. Performed by experienced and specially trained surgeons, the Thread Facelift procedure is simple and usually takes between 1-2 hours.
  2. With the identification of the target areas on the skin, the surgeon makes small incisions on the face (target areas).
  3. Through these incisions, the insertion of thin threads into the face takes place.
  4. Once the threads latch to the tissues of the skin, the cosmetic surgeon gently pulls back the threads thereby lifting the face.
  5. This facelifting goes a long way to eliminate the facial sagging. The face also becomes smooth and rejuvenated.
  6. A characteristic feature of the thread facelift is that no anesthesia is required during the entire procedure.
  7. With the facelifting and the skin rejuvenation, the surgeon knots the threads. The knotted threads, however, remain hidden within the skin.
  8. With no anesthesia, the person concerned is aware of all the face changes and modifications and can accordingly voice their approval about the same.

Advantages of Thread Facelift
The Thread Facelift is indeed a cosmetic genius that comes laden with benefits.

  1. Anyone between 25-45 with signs of skin aging can opt for this procedure. Slightly older women (between 50-60 years) with wrinkles and other related issues can also benefit from this procedure.
  2. Compared to the other facial cosmetic procedures, the Thread Facelift is relatively cost-effective leaving a small hole in the pocket.
  3. A person needs to spend minimum time in the hospital or the surgical center.
  4. With no anesthesia, the chances of anesthesia-related complications are absent.
  5. Unlike the other procedures, the Thread Facelift leaves no signs of scarring.
  6. You don't have to wait for months to see the desired results. The effects become visible almost instantaneously.

Risk Associated
While Thread Facelift comes with many benefits, there are also certain risks and complications associated with the procedure.

  1. Infections may occur at the incision sites or the corrected areas of the skin.
  2. In some rare cases, the sutures or knots may pop out of the skin.
  3. The procedure can also trigger a nerve injury (rare).

Onycholysis: Primary Causes You Need To Know

MBBS, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy

Onycholysis: Primary Causes You Need To Know

Nails are an important part of your physiology, although they are mostly used for either utilitarian purposes such as gripping or for beauty purposes such as nail decorations. Nails themselves can go through infections which need not have underlying causes and thus can cause damage to that part of the tissue. One such disorder of the nail is onycholysis.

What is onycholysis?
This is a disorder where the nail on the finger or the toes starts to separate from the skin below. This happens little by little and usually starts at the tip and then progresses backward. The further back it progresses, the more nail tissue it destroys. While the entire nail may not be detached from the nail bed, parts of it may chip off, showing the tissue underneath.

Symptoms of Onycholysis:

  1. Jagged border between the pink flesh of the nail bed and the yellow edge of the nail
  2. Detached nails become opaque, yellow or may turn green in color
  3. Nail may become irregular in shape and size
  4. Bits and chunks of nails can break off easily

Primary Causes for Onycholysis:

Let's look at some of the primary causes of onycholysis:0e962a07aa1f0b5b1e5d53b39c763740

  • Frequent Trauma - If you have a profession or work at home where you constantly require tapping away, it might cause minute injuries to build up within the nails and the fingers. Tapping on keyboards is one area where you could get repetitive trauma like this.
  • Manicure Problems - Many salons may aggressively try to clean the underside of the nails and in the process, slowly dislodge the nail form the nail bed and cause onycholysis. This has known to be the case with many people.
  • Water Immersion - If you have work where your nails are immersed in water for long periods of time, this could also affect the development of onycholysis.
  • Skin Diseases - Certain skin conditions can also end up giving onycholysis. Psoriasis and contact dermatitis are other conditions that may lead to onycholysis as a consequence.
  • Allergy to Nail Glue - Many makeup artists and customers have complained that certain brands of nail glue can also cause allergies resulting in onycholysis.
  • Medications - Medications meant for the treatment of other ailments within the body can have the unintended consequences of causing onycholysis.

Treatment:
The underlying problems need to be corrected which may cause onycholysis. Once the underlying problem is corrected, onycholysis usually corrects itself. The nail may take some time to re-grow but will grow back on its own eventually and may take 4 to 6 months to cover the entire affected area again. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
