I am 60 year old male. I have no diabetes and also bp. I am getting pain in my left hand shoulder, while rising the hand for more than 90 degrees, which was not so earlier, from the last about more than 3 months. The other movements of my left hand are very normal. No accident took place in the past. Please explain the reasons and advise the remedy. Regards.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually shoulder abduction or trying to lift the hand for more than 90 deg can lead to impingement in the affected shoulder. Also there could be some issues with rotator cuff for which an examination will be required. Sometimes periarthritis, adhesive capsulitis can also lead to shoulder symptoms but a detailed clinical examination has to be done and the only a cause can be ascribed and managed accordingly. Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to have a persistent neck pain as a health issue. If you have localized neck pain with no other symptoms like radiating upper limb pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your neck while working and sleeping and especially observing precautions of neck ergonomics - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. We will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like dynamic x rays of neck and few blood tests for evaluation. I am 60 and I have cervical spondylosis compliant for the last 10 years. Although I took physiotherapy it's not cured. Further I tried homoeopathic medicine for some time without much effect. I am bearing the terrible pain in my right shoulder and left arm when I travel or carry luggage. Also I have problem while sleeping. Please suggest suitable remedy.

Kindly show me a photograph & digital x rays of affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days. Bio d3 max 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do reply back for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Last year I had a lot of pain in my both knees, while siting & standing I used to have alot of pain, I consulted a doctor asked me to take x ray in which I found my right leg kneecap moved to little bit right side & left leg knee cap is moved to left side, he asked me to go for surgery or else I may face arthritis in future. He gave me tablets temporarily problem was solved. But now I feel that my right kneecap has moved more on rightside i. E more gap. So please guide me what to do without surgery. Thanking you.

I think you are being misguided. Investigations advised - x ray of the affected part. Anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. For emergency treatment contact your nearest hospital or family doctor. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, Please inform

My knee is quite painful and after xray doctors told me the gap is less. I find difficult to walk. Doctors suggested weight loss. No matter how I try my weight not reducing. Walking is tough and my posture also getting bad. What can I do to loose wight and for my knee to be less painful.

Hello, Your weight is way to high. So start with including more vegetables. Aim to eat atleast 8-10 servings of vegetables. Atleast 4 servings should be raw. Have small meals many times a day. As you cannot do walking try doing g sitting exercises like simple head and neck movements, hand movements, breathing exercises and pranayama. Take good quality protein from legumes, pulses, soya, and egg. Supplementing with vitamin C, omega. 3 fatty acids, vit D also helps you a lot with your problem. Hope you find this useful. Dear lybrate user, correct your postural error. Take, homoeo medicine. @ rhus tox200-6 pills, thrice. @ arnica mont 200-6 pills, thrice a day. Avoid, cold intake, exposure to cold, junk food, bending down to lift heavy wt. Jerks, watching tv& sitting on computers, in d late night. Go for aerobic exercise, suitable for back muscle. Report wkly, please.
