Using a hard-bristled toothbrush can harm

BDS

Ask Free Question
A hard-bristled toothbrush coupled with an aggressive brushing technique can cause irreversible damage to your gums. Use a soft toothbrush and gently brush your teeth at a 45-degree angle, in a circular motion. Using a back-and-forth, sawing motion causes the gums to recede, and can expose the root of the tooth, making teeth extremely sensitive.

We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning and artificial enamel filling or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

The psychodynamic explanation of the dentist–patient relationship
From a psychodynamic viewpoint dental healthcare is a 2-person endeavour. It is the dentist working with the patient and the patient being able to accept (use) the work (treatment) offered and provided by the dentist. It acknowledges that there is a uniqueness in the interaction for both dentist and patient while accepting the potential for inequalities within the interaction. Nevertheless it requires the health professional to remain flexible, to be able, as the need arises, to make adjustments in treatment plans thereby maximising status equality while minimising the potential for disruptions within the relationship. Benefits exist for the dental health professional when the equality between themselves and their patients is maintained. These include improved time and behavioural management skills, increased awareness of their patients' concerns and anxieties, the ability to readjust treatment plans and to provide patient-centred care

Hi, there are various method / products available to whiten teeth. The most effective is in-office whitening done by a dental professional. It's usually a one hour procedure in which whitening gel will apply to the teeth and activate by whitening light for 10 to 15 minutes. 2 or 3 such sessions may required. Regards

Good evening nitin thanks for the query as you said your teeth are not in good shape though you have used different types of paste. Dear paste is just adjunct for brushing mainly it depends upon how you brush your teeth. I advice you to visit your nearby dentist and ask him regarding brushing technique. That will definitely help in resolving your problem. Regards

Hello Lybrate user, the good news is that healthy teeth can be moved at any age hence Orthodontic treatment (braces) can be done even at this age provided you have healthy periodontium. You are never too old to benefit from Orthodontic treatment. Visit an Orthodontist to discuss further.

My grandfather is 80 years of age and recently had ulcers in his mouth, so he was not able to eat properly. He has removed his jaw and is using the temporary ones to eat. But because of the ulcers, he cant eat, the doctors can't diagnose the problem and keep on changing the medicines. He has become very weak and wasn't able to stand the other day. His legs and hands are swollen and he is not a diabetic patient. Please advise what can I do? I have his prescriptions with me and can forward if required.

What I could get from you is that your father is using dentures to eat. May be there is something wrong with the denture itself and because of chronic irritation from the same the ulcer is not healing at that particular point. If that is the case he needs to stop wearing dentures for about 1 week and apply dologel ct locally over the ulcer. If the problem is not resolved do contact me again. He needs to take multi vitamins too that I suppose he must be taking on doctor's advice. Do send me the prescription for more details. I hope this helps.

Brush teeth twice a day. Floss daily. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. Brush or scrape your tongue. Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. Consult a physician too. Adv. cleaning, filling of all tooth cavities to avoid food stagnation that eventually cause a foul smell.

Toothpaste and medicines are not of much help in this condition. When you eat cold things and suffer from severe pain then your tooth or teeth may need an rct to be done. If required crown (capping). So rct is only answer for your tooth which is too much sensitive to cold. Rest your dentist will take an xray and decide an appropriate treatment.

You should have controlled diabetes for dental implants. First you should go for proper examination to check wether your oral and general health is fit for inplant surgery. If all parameters are ok then you can go for it. Cost can vary. Its about 25000 or more per tooth implant.

I have sensitivity in my upper teeth so what's the prescription.
A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better.

Quit habits strictly. Seems like you have oral submucous fibrosis (osmf). Kindly consult an oral & maxillo facial surgeon in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need conservative or surgical management for mouth opening depending upon the stage of osmf. Advise full mouth opening, ballooning exercise & side to side movement of the jaw. Wrap 25 to 30 ice-cream sticks, make a bundle, put it between upper & lower front teeth for 15 minutes thrice a day increase 1 sticks each day.
