Your smile depends on simple dental care habits, such as brushing and flossing. But are you using the right techniques? Oral health begins with clean teeth. Keeping the area where your teeth meet your gums clean can prevent gum disease, while keeping your tooth surfaces clean can help you stave off cavities.
Good oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist will help you maintain healthy teeth and gums

I am 55yrs old man. I am having a tumor in side of my tounge. As I am an sugar patient. I have consult an e. N. T he referd an opration and at the sane time another doctor advised me to continue the madicin. Please suggest me what is better and usefull for me.

MDS
Dentist, Kota
Whether to go for surgery of any tumor or not it depends upon many factors. - Patient physical status - in your case you are diabetic. If your sugar level is very high, then any surgical procedure is contraindicated, First your sugar level should control by medications then you can go ahead for surgery (Medical supervision is must) - Tumor Stage - early stages have good outcome. - Tumor location - Extending into deeper structure has more prone to recur even after surgery. - Tumor size - if it is small then a simple small surgery can make you healthy. So without knowing the details its very difficult to suggest accurately.

I am 34 years old I have inside mouth upper jaw is in black color. so, what is the reason. please suggest.?

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Going by your discription I think you are talking about upper jaw gums. If yes, then there is a procedure called depigmentation of gums. That black colour is usually due melanin which is responsible for skin colour. Check on internet or consult me or see your doc. Will be happy to help u.

Best treatment for 3 crooked teeth. Don't want braces for just 3 teeth. Suggest other treatment.

Best treatment for 3 crooked teeth. Don't want braces for just 3 teeth. Suggest other treatment.
Prosthodontics is second option. This treatment needs your teeth to be reduced to smaller size by the dentist then a better crown with good shape (not crooked) is placed. You will need rct of those teeth before the crown.

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Please mention your age for a definitive answer. However , considering you are below the age of 30 years , it is unlikely to cancer as mouth cancer is not hereditary but due to poor lifestyle habits which clearly you don't have. Still I recommend that you show the lesion to a doctor at least once

Top Five Tips From The Dentist For Diabetics

Top Five Tips From The Dentist For Diabetics
Among the many health risks of diabetes is a decline in oral health that makes patients more vulnerable to gum disease. According to dental professionals, this happens because diabetes slows the body's circulation, making the gums more susceptible to infection. The metabolic disorder also increases glucose (sugar) levels in saliva, which fuels the growth of dental plaque that attacks the teeth and gums. To protect against the disorder, follow these simple tips.

1. Visit your dentist regularly.

Because diabetics are at a much higher risk of gum disease than the average patient, you should never miss a dental appointment. In fact, you should schedule regular checkups two to four times a year. With professional cleanings and regular examinations, common mouth conditions, such as ulcers, dry mouth, and infections can be controlled. To prevent bouts of low blood sugar, it may be a good idea to eat before you see your dentist. It is also crucial that you inform him or her of any oral problems you may be having -- no matter how minor they may seem.

2. Follow a strict oral hygiene regimen.

All diabetics should and really must brush and floss daily, preferably after every meal. This will help remove the plaque that can cause gum disease, thereby lowering your risk for mouth ulcers and infections. It is recommended that you complete your oral hygiene routine at least three times a day. Because your risk of oral infection is elevated, it is important to avoid aggressive brushing that can cause cuts and sores. You may even want to use a soft-bristled brush or an electric model for a safer, more comfortable brushing experience.

3. Control your blood sugar.

As we mentioned, sugar stimulates plaque growth, which causes tooth decay and gum disease. Because diabetics have more glucose (sugar) in their blood, they also tend to have a lot more plaque on their teeth. But if you can keep your blood sugar low, you can reduce your risk of periodontal disease.

4. Don't smoke.

In a perfect world, nobody would smoke -- especially people with diabetes. The unhealthy activity causes a laundry list of serious complications, including oral infections and periodontal diseases. According to dental professionals, smoking can more than double your risk of cavities and infections.

5. Clean your dentures.

If you have diabetes and you wear false teeth, you are more prone to developing oral thrush -- a fungal infection of the mouth. Typically caused by denture irritation or wear, thrush can be prevented with regular cleaning. It is also recommended that you remove your dentures in between meals to give any irritated tissue the opportunity to heal. Your dentist might also advise you to limit your sugar intake when your mouth is bothered or raw.

Hi lybrate-user, it is good that you have quit tobacco pan masala. It is likely that you have a condition called as osmf (oral submucous fibrosis), wherein, there are reddish lesions on the inside the cheeks, and mouth-opening becomes extremely limited due to decreased elasticity of tissues in the mouth. Although you have quit tobacco, it will take some time for your mouth opening to get normal; and you will be required to do some mouth exercises. In many cases, medicines need to be injected directly into the lesions (intra-lesional injections), which brings about quick improvement. I suggest that you consult me privately on lybrate. In private consultation, you will be able to show the pictures of your lesions to me, and I will be in a better position to solve your query. I will also be able to guide you on how to perform mouth exercises on video consultation. Take care.

Usually it would be due to inflammed gums, if it is due to that then a simple cleaning of teeth will cure.
