4 Easy Exercises for Aches And Pains

4 Easy Exercises for Aches And Pains

Taking into account the hectic lifestyle we lead, most of us end up suffering from aches and pains. But that does not mean we have to continue to suffer from them. There are plenty of easy exercises that one can follow in order to keep themselves healthy and problem free!

In order to avoid aches and pains, the first thing that a person needs to do is

  1. Practise hamstring stretches regularly: What this entails is that he or she needs to lie on the back, raise a leg and hold the back of it with both hands. While it may be called the hamstring stretch and one would probably normally think that the beneficial impact of doing it would be limited to the hamstring, it works quite a bit of special magic which has an ability to ease the pain in the lower back. Now, for an exercise which is so simple, is it not worth it?
  2. Side Stretch: Talking about stretches, another form of a stretch happens to be the side stretch. Even this is rather simple and all that needs to be done is to lie on one’s side and pull the ankle of the leg which is not in contact with the ground towards the back. While this is being done, the ankle of the lower leg should apply pressure on the thigh.
  3. Straight leg raise: It may seem that most of the exercises which reduce pain are stretches! However, this is not really the case as there is a place for exercises such as the straight leg raise and the like. What exactly is the straight leg raise? Well, it can be done when a person is either in a sitting position or is lying on his or her back. The toes are to be kept pointed upwards and the leg is to be raised. It is to be kept in mind that the challenge of the straight leg raise is that the knee should not be bent, at all.
  4. The cat and camel exercise: The terms cat and camel generally refer to members of the animal kingdom. However, jointly, in terms of exercises, the cat and camel is an exercise well worth remembering as it can save the individual quite a lot of pain. All that needs to be done is to alternatively arch one’s back towards the floor and the ceiling while resting on one’s hands and knees.

While our way of living may come with certain side-effects, but it would not be right to say that we are helpless. We need to take charge and make little changes to enjoy a healthy and happy lifestyle. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Whenever I start running I feel pain in my calf. I do not after 1 km. Is it because I run on toe? Should I run on toe.

MBBS
General Physician, Fatehabad
Whenever I start running I feel pain in my calf. I do not after 1 km. Is it because I run on toe?
Should I run on toe.
Hi lybrate-user, Non-traumatic calf pain usually follows a fairly predictable pattern – the pain develops when running and gradually worsens as the run continues. The calf may feel tight and even stop the runner from going any further. After running the pain subsides a little but the calf often continues to feel tight for a day or so. Commonly when not running symptoms are minimal. There are a few potential diagnoses for this including superficial posterior compartment syndrome and ‘sciatica’ but the most common reason I see clinically is simply fatigue of the calf muscles. This leads to the question of why are my calf muscles becoming fatigued? Every muscle has it’s different level of strength and endurance, exceed that level and it will usually start to become painful and tight. The answer to why this happens usually has 2 parts to it: 1. The calf is being overloaded 2. The calf muscles are weak or lack endurance. For the treatment, so some calf muscle exercises: Rather than choose between racing flats and running barefoot, doing some eccentric calf exercises off of a stair can also bolster your calf strength during wintertime when you can’t get outside to do some strides or jogging in spikes. The “eccentric heel drop” exercise that is helpful when you’ve got Achilles tendonitis is also a good all-around strength exercise for your calves. 1. The straight-knee eccentric heel drop. 2. The bent knee eccentric heel drop. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. It's actually difficult to suggest remedies for this since you have to continue with your job, but there are strengthening exercises and gadgets available at home which can actually increase the strength of your hand muscles as well as take adequate calcium, vitamin d and a multivitamin supplementation for this as well. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

This is a general low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. Ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. It is suggestible to wear Lumbo sacral belt which would help you to build the abdominal muscle tone which itself would make you feel better. You can also wear MCR Chappels which would help you to have less weight falling in the painful back. Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. Back pain. How can I do if I have stomach pain and back pain. Do you have any solution for this?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

How can I do if I have stomach pain and back pain. Do you have any solution for this?
The cause of stomach pain and back pain should be investigated first. Stomache pain could be due to consumed food, intestinal infection or muscular spasm. Back pain could be arthritis, spondylosis, ivg reduction etc or simply exhaustion too. There could be other causes too. Primarily you may take ajwain boiled with 1/2 gm of purest hing fried in ghee and powdered. It works in both. Upon further information, proper treatment could be initiated, if needed.
