Protein Supplements - Is it Good or Bad?

Protein supplements cannot hurt, right? We know you have questions about the efficacy and safety of protein supplementation and we are going to answer all your concerns right here. People all around the world spend billions of dollars on sports nutrition and protein supplements that can enhance their athletic performance and improve their looks. These supplements usually consist of whey, casein, soy, egg albumin, brown rice, cow milk, wheat, beef, pea, hemp, etc. and are available as ready-to-drink shakes, bars, gels and powders in a variety of flavours.

How are protein supplements good?

  1. Proteins are good for health as they help build muscle. They improve immune function too.
  2. Furthermore, protein may also help reduce blood pressure.
  3. Research has proved beyond a doubt that higher protein intake may help manage normal blood pressure and prevent complications due to hypertension.
  4. Consuming enough soy protein is also beneficial to cardiovascular health as it lowers triglyceride levels and LDL cholesterol levels. It also increases HDL levels.

Whey protein reduces obesity and enhances immunity as well as anti-oxidant activity. It also lowers blood glucose levels. Remember, training while taking whey supplements can enhance lean body mass, strength, and muscle size as whey is a complete protein containing all nine of the amino acids. Thus, these supplements are a good source of all the amino acids required by your body.

How are they bad?

  1. Protein supplements are not regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  2. As the supplement market is unregulated, there is a major risk of use of inferior products and contamination with heavy metals and pesticides.
  3. Another reason protein supplementation is bad is because you don’t require so much protein, even if you are working out. The recommended daily intake of protein for healthy adults is just 0.75 g of protein/kg body weight. This means you need about 45 - 56 g of protein a day. Adult athletes need 1.5 g/kg body weight.
  4. But if you are on protein supplements, you may end up ingesting more protein than required. This can cause a buildup of ‘ketones’ bodies. And this in turn can cause ketosis. In simple words, ketosis can cause your body's pH to lower to dangerously acidic levels, leading to a state called ketoacidosis.
  5. This can lead to an inordinate load on your kidneys as they work overtime to get rid of ketones and this may lead to severe dehydration, particularly if you exercise heavily. And this can make you weak and dizzy, not strong.
  6. It can also give you a bad breath and other health problems like osteoporosis.

Last, but not the least, protein supplements contain extra calories. Extra protein required by you can be received without a problem by eating a protein rich diet. You don’t need protein supplements for this. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

Hair loss and dandruff/hair whitening can be controlled by - 1. Use mild shampoo to wash hair (you can make your own shampoo using reetha and shikakai at home) 2. Stop using conditioners. Use natural conditioners like egg, yougurt and lemon. 3. Massage your scalp with a mix of oils like olive, coconut, sesame, castor oil at night. 4. Apply raw amla juice on hair thrice a week. 5. Rub your scalp with the juice of white onion. 6. Use a paste of bhringraj on hair. 7. You can use some good hair packs like - fenugreek and yogurt, egg and green tea. 8. You can rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar after washing your hair to maintain ph balance of your hair. 9. Hair health depends on the amount of protein in your diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, fish, nuts, dry fruits gives you the required nutrients to keep your skin and hair healthy. So consume plenty of them. Eat things rich in vitamin c like amla and oranges. 10. Drink lots of water to flush out toxins from the body.

Hello yeah hair damages because of prolong use of helmet.. For hairfall you can use minotress solution 5 % on scalp two times per day for 3 months. Trilast hair solution at night time for 3 months. use Triclenz shampoo or hair 4 u for regular use. Include protein rich food, green leafy vegetables,fresh fruits n juices in ur diet.drink 2-3 lit water,n daily 45 min exercise. thanx

The typical character of ear is more you scratch worse is itch. You will have to control yourself from scratching first. Get thyroid and diabetes checked drink sufficient amount of water. Use single drop of baby oil or mineral oil twice or thrice a week. Apply good moisturizer with fingertip in ear daily. This should help.

Hi, I can understand your situation. You are a mother of twins so obviously you would be physically more tired. First of all you should take care of your diet and rest. Take help of some one in the house or keep a maid. Also when your kids are sleeping that time you also take some rest. Many indian women make this mistake and complete the household chores when the kid is sleeping. This causes lack of rest in the body and in return the woman gets frustrated. Also with your doctor's advice take some vitamin supplements. Put yourself first before others for few months. Once the kids will grow up then you can attend others as they wish. Listen some soothing music. It will help to relax. Wish you a happy parenting.

Hair fall is due to many reasons now a day it is common due to stress and busy life check your haemoglobin level if less then take hamatinic any multinational company take proper diet (dal vegetables sprouts fruits) and do exercise minimum 15 min if possibles do yoga for 10 min increase water intake minimum 3 to 4 litres per day also take homoeo medicines phosphrus 30 (30 no glouble) 2 tds x 2 weeks and reply also comb your hair gently and 2/3 time per day wash with homoeopathic shampoo (sbl or any company) twice a week preaper oil by mixing arnica montana q 30 ml + any regular hair oil and apply before wash

Diabtes can be controlled by diet, weight loss, exercise, and oral medications. Medications for type2diabetes and insulin for type ie insulin dependent diabetes. Take proper diabetic diet. Exercise daily. If overweight, reduce your weight. Hope this helps u.

Hi. You can apply candid vaginal cream for allery, itching and boils near vagina or in to vagina. Clean vagina daily during bathing. And checkup ph level of vagina. Ph level should be 5.5 it is good for vagina health.
