Yeah sitting continuously for longer duration is main cause for backache. Do not sit in chair for longer times. Move around for few mins and again start working.

I am 63 yrs. Gap in left knee joint has reduced. My doctor confirmed but said initial stage and suggested regular exercise after reducing / removal of swelling. Please. Inform how to get rid of swelling by some medicine and exercise. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user you should take proper rest, and don't lift heavy weight or any exercise at least for one week. For muscular pain, massage form ice on painful area.

Knee swelling is sometimes referred to as" water on the knee. The medical term for this condition is knee effusion. Effusion can result from an injury, chronic overuse, or disease. To treat your symptoms we need to identify the likely cause. The application of ice packs on your affected knee is known as a very effective home treatment method in alleviating the symptoms of fluid on the knee. Elevate your leg while applying an ice pack on the affected knee. Give yourself sufficient rest. You need to avoid engaging in strenuous activities. Please consult a physiotherapist to determine the cause of your joint swelling.

Requires detailed investigation and examination hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d xray of the affected part. Anyway you may try sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head do hot fomentation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

Try few things for temporary relief of your back pain: -avoid activities that require bending forward at the waist or stooping. -try to avoid lifting objects if at all possible. -sit as little as possible, and only for short periods of time (10 to 15 minutes). -sit with a back support (such as a rolled-up towel) at the curve of your back. -keep your hips and knees at a right angle. (use a foot rest or stool if necessary.) your legs should not be crossed and your feet should be flat on the floor. -Activity is often the best medicine for back pain. “Simple exercises like walking can be very helpful -Strengthen your core. Most people with chronic back pain would benefit from stronger abdominal muscles. -Apply heating pads to comfort tender trunks. Developing an individualized exercise plan is essential to managing chronic back pain. Please get help from a physiotherapist for further assessment and management of your back pain.

Neck stretching. Postural correction. Shoulder shrugs. Core strengthening exercises. Take frequent breaks at work use cervical pillow. Use back support.

Hi, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc and with no other associated constitutional symptoms like evening rise in temperature, loss of weight, excessive sweating at night etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Posture correction must. Tk soft pillow for back support. Do hot fomentations and stretching exercise avoid long sitting toward bending. Tk muscle relaxant medicine.

Most probably you are suffering from oa of knee. Knee surgery-total knee replacement (tkr) is quite safe & gives uniformly good results, in our hands. We have well equipped center in delhi. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Surgery should be done when patient is still active & will be able to take benefit of surgery. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem. Kindly show me x rays before a final decision can be taken. You will be thoroughly investigated before surgery is under taken. Risk in surgery is less than the risk in crossing road.

Hello welcome to lybrate. Your knee pain can be due to osteoarthritis, low vitamin d or raised uric acid levels. To start with get the following investigations: x ray both knees ap and lateral views and blood tests fasting: calcium, phosphorous, alkaline phosphatase, vitamin d levels, uric acid and revert back with reports. Learn quadriceps strengthening exercises from a physiotherapist and do then 20 mins 3 times a day. Avoid squatting on the floor or sitting on low chair or indian toilet. Hot fomentation with a rubber bottle will also help.

Use a doughnut shaped cushion to sit. Use a finger shaped ice moulds to ferment the tailbone area. If the pain doesn't subside, get the treatment done in a physio clinic.
