The therapeutic role of carbogen was evaluated in subjects with sensorineural hearing loss by administering carbogen, a gas mixture of 95 per cent O2 and 5 per cent CO2, for seven consecutive days (30 min/day) and monitoring puretone audiometry before and after the administration. Significant improvement was observed both in air and bone conduction threshold levels on seventh day, indicating that there was some recoverable portion in the hearing level of these subjects. The improvement in hearing may be due to action of CO2 as an otic vasodilator coupled with supplementation of the O2 requirement of degenerating hair cells. Carbogen thus appears to be useful in persons with impaired hearing, involving the inner ear.

I am age 22, height 5.8 and weight 75. I have had sinus earlier, for which I got operated too back in 2015. From then, I avoid all chilled eateries. Recently I got detected with increased easnophiles. I took medication for that n got treated. Right now, even though I follow not having freeze foods and also keep myself safe from dust, i am being effected with chest congestion, every now and then. What can be an appropriate issue regards my health?

Hello, Having Increased Eosinophil Count is indicative of Allergic response of your body towards an Allergen (Substance causing Allergy) You might only be knowing that you are allergic to cold foods, Dust. But there might also be something else you are allergic to and you haven't been noticing that yet. It might be some particular agent which may even be in your food that take like Brinjal, Tomato, Ladyfinger, Cabbage etc. Better get a "patch test" done. This is a test that is used to determine the Allergic substance which you may be allergic to. But consult a Doctor before and get examined, Evaluated properly in an order.

Charges are same as conventional ear surgery, only I charge Rs35000 extra towards LASER charges and LASER consumables. The advantages are that hospital stay is greatly reduced and that substantially reduced your final bill.

Most probably you are feeling the bony prominence of Mastoid bone, which can be asymmetrical in shape and size. Other possibility is that of Lymphnode, which generally can be painful on touching.

I hear a little crackling sound in my left ear while chewing or opening my mouth wide. I don't think I have ear wax because I clean my ears externally everyday. Should I be worried?

It can be due problem in jaw joint also. But before that we need to rule out ear wax. Try consulting ENT SURGEON. Till than try soft diet and hot fomentation over jaw area for 5 days.

Tsh is slightly elevated. You should continue same tablets get repeat thyroid function tests after three months. With such minimal dose of thyronorm you should not be worried and it won't cause any problems.

My friend often snores a lot at night. How can this snoring problem be controlled? Pls help.

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in the nose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

Loss of smell sensation is due to chronic sinusitis. but since you were operated for that, it could be due to something else. Consult ENT specialist for advice

Hi lybrate-user viral fever and dizziness may cause a problem called vestibular neuritis where the nerve responsible for balance may be affected by the virus. If you still feel dizziness you need to urgently do the tests mentioned below. Vestibular neuritis needs urgent treatment. Vertigo is a medical term which describes a sense if rotation even while stationary. It can often be confused with lightheadedness, generalised weakness, dizziness. Vertigo may be caused by problems in your peripheral (Ear &balance mechanism inside ear known as the vestibular system) or central nervous system.  A complete checkup is required to isolate the cause. Peripheral vestibular  system causing vertigo symptoms may need initial medications to stabilise followed by Vestibular Rehabilitation  exercises. A good quality  of life can be achieved if properly managed. * Pure tone audiometry  and tympanometry  can detect any problem in the ear nerves and tympanic membrane pressure (both of which can be abnormal in case of ear diseases) An Xray of the Cervical Spine (AP /Lat/Lat-oblique to check for cervical spondylitis CT brain and a complete  haemogram  are some of the baseline tests needed for a good evaluation  of vertigo. Hope this helps
