Hi Mr. lybrate-user, as per your description you are having moderately severe to severe hearing loss. Whether to go for hearing aids or not, it depends on the cause of problem. In your audiogram it will be mentioned whether it is conductive, mixed or sensorineural hearing loss. You will require hearing aids in sensorineural hearing loss but in other two types it depends on what ENT suggests you. Hope this may help you.

I am using widex B32 high power hearing aids from last 10 years. Now I want to change new hearing aids. Which company' s and which model of high power aids are best?

Ph.D
Audiologist, Bangalore
To be straight forward, benefits doesn' t depend on the company. All international companies have all the models of hearing aids. Skilled programming along with the selection of right model maximizes the benefits. This may require multiple visits to the clinic. Hence consult a qualified audiologist closer to your place.

Chewing chewing gum good or bad for teeth? Some genuine advice please. If good which one is advisable?

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition, B.Sc. - Dietitics / Nutrition, Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Family Welfare
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Chandigarh
Gums with sugar should be avoided. Sugar-free chewing gums are non-harmful. Some may claim that it helps fight activities however no scientific evidence exists. Also, not all sugar-free gums are good. Be aware that non-sugar sweeteners sometimes cause bloating, diarrhea or flatulence. So your decision lies in what suits your body. If you don't have such side effects and you are addicted to it, then go for it. Better avoid gums if you can. Chew neem sticks instead.

I hv been suffering from 40 % hearing loss in left ear since may 2014. Is it viral infection or any other causes. It happened when I was travelling in my ac car during hot day

Dear Murari, Have you got a hearing test done to suggest that you have 40% hearing loss that too only in your left ear ? If you have then I would like to see the report. In case you have not got the tests done then I would suggest you to immediately get an audiogram done & then get back for the suggestion. There can be various causes for hearing loss. Its extremely difficult to pin point unless you know for sure that this happened exactly when ! Regards, Neevita 9810511246 www.sphearclinic.com

Other people talking is not yoru problem: you say that people's observation is that you speak loudly. It is definitely coming from your own hearing loss whereby you have not accurate feedback mechanism to know your volume and to make necessary corrections. Now that you know about this is it possible to speak in a volume that is less audible to you but that you know it is sufficient to the hearing level of the other people. With time and practice you will be able to master this technique.
