I am suffering from hearing loss from my right ear. Hearing gradually reduced over a period of ten years. Presently my age is 55 years and my left ear was undergone surgery for the same problem in the year : 1982 (33 years ago). Surgery success and hearing developed a lot. But subsequently, my left ear was also reduced the hearing. Presently, using hearing aid for left ear. Right ear is totally hearing loss now. Please suggest me - whether I can undergo any surgery for my right ear.

Hi, Thank you for the question. You have not mentioned why did you undergo for surgery for your left ear. I hope you had middle ear infection (ear discharge, ear pain, reduced hearing, ringing sound, ear blocked, etc.) for which you might have undergone surgery. If middle ear infection is present in your right ear too then depend on the severity you might have to undergo surgery. Kindly visit to a professional "Audiologist" for further detail Audiological evaluation (hearing testing). Depend on your current audiological report Audiologist would recommend you to go for digital hearing aid or surgery. Regard Surender Gupta Audiologist and Speech Language Pathologist

I have a hearing loss and already using hearing aid, the sound is good but not so clear, its like always high pitch and I feel that there is something blocking my eardrum, and every time I sway my head from left to right I hear a sound specially when i'm eating. Is there any medicine or anti biotic for me?

You do not need any medicine for this, its just either the hearing aid programming not done properly or hearing aid fitting problem. Get it checked.

It may be senile deafness due to ageing. Generally able 50 vision and hearing diminish. If problem is interfering with social life, consult a ent specialist and get hearing test done. Hearing aid might be of great benefit if you have hearing loss beyond 40 db.

Mr. Lybrate-user, you may do pranayam daily, especially anulom vilom but yes slowly and don't blow air forcefully. It will be beneficial for ear. You should go for regular checkup to an e. N. T. You may also take mullein drops available at homoeopathic store, 2 drops in each ear twice daily (2nd time before sleeping).

Hi. Just to give you the accurate information. Hearing loss can have only severity like either severe or profound loss it cannot be chronic. When your loss is sensorineural it cannot be reveresed nor can be regained by using any supplements. You can hear the world better only with a hearing device.

First you go for complet hearing evaluation, after that you ll get to know about the type of hearing loss. If the hearing loss is more of conductive component then surgery n medication is more beneficial. If hearing loss is more of SN component then it'll be better to use hearing aid as soon as possible.

If the ent has already suggested not to go for a surgery don't go for it. But keep monitoring your hearing loss by getting it checked in every 6 months at least.

Is there a medicine to improve hearing? or what are the ways to improve hearing longevity?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Delhi
Hearing loss may be conductive (due to ear drum perforation/ ear ossicle damage) or neural deafness. It can be diagnosed by audiometry ( hearing test). If it comes out as conductive deafness, can be corrected by surgery or if it comes out neural then hearing aid is only treatment.

I'm planning to buy earplugs because my neighbor's kid make a lot of noise and i'm not able to focus while studying. I just want to know is there any side effect of the foam earplugs?

I'm planning to buy earplugs because my neighbor's kid make a lot of noise and i'm not able to focus while studying. ...
No dought sound pollution is a problem in our country, it is better to take two measures 1. You can request to your neighborhood to control his kid while you go for study. 2. You can shift your study place or put a cotton piece in both the ear while studying because to be habitual of any thing may disturb your physiology of hearing.
