Sir, I have sciatic pain since 2 weeks and I met NeuroSurgeon who prescribed two type of tablets which has solved my back pain and pain in my upper portion of left leg but some numbness has come in my left leg which I observed when I walk. May I know it is a sign of getting well or it is going to be a major problem in future.

Sciatica refers to pain that begins in the hip and buttocks and continues all the way down the leg. This condition is often accompanied by low back pain, which can be more or less severe than the leg pain. The term “sciatica” indicates that the sciatic nerve, which travels from the lower back through the buttocks and into the leg, is thought to be the cause of the pain in this condition. True sciatica is a condition that occurs when a herniated lumbar disc compresses one of the contributing roots of the sciatic nerve. This type of low back pain is less common than other causes and conditions that produce back pain. HEALTHIER WALKING POSTURE TO REDUCE NECK/BACK PAIN

FOCUS ON WALKING 

Walking provides you with your most basic form of transportation. It is one of the safest and most effective ways to exercise the entire body. If your neck or back pain is currently aggravated by walking, your pain may be reduced if you control some of the factors addressed in this . This  describes problem walking patterns (bad moves), and healthier walking patterns (good moves). 

STANDING REFLECTS ON WALKING 

In general, your standing posture will be similar to the posture you exhibit while walking. For example, if you exhibit an increased low-back arch and/or forward-head posture while standing still, these imbalances will usually be present when you walk as well. If you tend to hold yourself tensely while standing still, your walking will also tend to reflect this tension. if you slump while standing, you will exhibit the same poor alignment when walking.Therefore, it is important for you to become aware of your postural tendencies and to follow the specific recommendations already made in the “focus on standing” section. 

Once you are able to subtly change some of these tendencies while standing still (by performing postural adjustment exercises), it is a simple matter of continuing these and similar adjustment while walking.If you recognize any of the problem walking patterns as being similar to your own, attempt the adjustments recommended. 

Use the postural adjustment,breathing and imaginary tips for short periods of time (10 seconds- 1 minute)during your daily activities that include walking.

REPLACE PROBLEM WALKING PATTERNS WITH HEALTHIER WALKING PATTERNS 

BAD MOVE: increased low back arch while walking An increased forward arch of the low back, along with a stretched-out lower abdomen, will cause the water in the pelvic basin to spill out the front as you walk. This alignment will typically aggravate low back pain. In this alignment you tend to walk with your abdomen leading out in front.

GOOD MOVE: leveling the pelvis Imagine that there is a pulley attached to the front brim of your pelvis that goes up toward the ceiling. As you walk, imagine that the upward lift of this pulley is maintaining the front brim of your pelvis up and level with the back brim. The water in the pelvic bowl stays level from front to back. Allow this image to help maintain your pelvis and low back in a stable position as you continue walking.

Hello Lybrate user,  Back pain that is associated with day time sedentary jobs like computer professional s are associated with paraspinal muscle spasms. The best way to tackle this sort of pain is to do well spaced Stretching exercises of the back, back extension exercises, using hot water bags to provide relief and avoiding stooping posture while sitting. Posture also plays a very important part in back pain, always maintain a straight posture while sitting. While getting up from the bed try to first go on your left or right side of the body and get up side ways. Avoid Cruntches or Sit-ups: they may increase the pressure on your back and may predispose to Slip Disc. Always maintain a healthy Lifestyle in terms of regular brisk walking, meditation, eating healthy. P. S: Try to avoid pain killers (Analgesics) as much as possible as many are associated with Side effects that you may not be aware of. Stay Healthy. Stay Happy God bless you.

I am 31 year old female. I have a kid of 1 year old. I had lumbar spondylosis before marriage but after delivery my back pain has increased to a level where I ca neither sit nor stand and I don get proper sleep either. I have not taken any medication as I am a nursing mother. I started brisk walking regularly after my toddler reached completed 1 year. Kindly let me know what I should do to reduce this pain and have proper sleep.

hello, history of back pain ,now delivary & feeding these all leads to low calcium in body . 1) Do massage with warm sesame oil or suitable oil for 15 min., afterwards take hot fomentation for 10 min. 2) Start natural calcium supplement. 3) Do regular stretching exercise 4) In yoga DO BHUJANGASAN, HALASAN & SURYANAMASKAR. Give feedback after 4 days. u can start walk . sleep distarbance is natural due to feeding .sleep when u get time

Kindly show me photograph of your foot. Anyway. You may sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Kindly take biod3 max 1 tab dailyx10 paracetamol 250mg od & sos x5days make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take do not ignore it. It could be beginning of a serious problem. If no relief in 4_5 days, then contact me again.

Not Exectly. But It Appears in Many People with age. U Can do Some Exercises to Reduce the Chances. Also For Perticular Problems Like Knee Pain. You can Take Physiotherapy Tratment to Reduce the Inflamation of OA.

Hi I can understand your problem. # relax & stay positive. # take hot and cold fomentation. # learn posture care exercise. # use lumber support. # take break every 20 minutes. # do strengthening exercise of back and core muscles not all back pains are same. Do share investigation reports if you have any.
