Home Remedy for Whitening Your Teeth

BDS
Dentist, Noida
Home Remedy for Whitening Your Teeth

Using baking soda as a home remedy for whitening your teeth is helpful, but do not use harshly as it acts as an abrasive it will abrade your enamel layer exposing dentinal tubles making them sensitive.
Use baking soda but once in a week, it helps in removing stains but just avoid applying it harshly.

U may be suffering from Periodontitis (Gum Disease). Which is usually aggravated by tobacco chewing. In Periodontitis the gum detaches from the tooth surface and forms deep crevices called as pockets. The treatment in such a case is Teeth cleaning and cleaning of the gums followed by evaluation of the status of bone that holds the teeth. Which if found to be involved would require gum surgical therapy

Yellow scars recently gained, most likely bcos of improper brushing, excessive intake of tea or tooth coloring materials or foods. So, lessen them if so. Tooth cleaning is the one you can even go in for bleaching of tooth. At home you can even try tooth whitening gels as per instructions.

Your teeth might be breaking because of wear n tear as per your age not just cavities. You need to get fillings done, but if your tooth has badly broken down fillings will not stay. In that case you will have to get multiple crowns done. Please get a proper check up done & then proceed for treatment.

Know your mouthwashes.

BDS, Certification In Oral Implantology

Know your mouthwashes.
Know your mouthwashes.
Here are few myths and common queries that our patients ask us regarding mouthwashes:

1. All mouthwashes are equal:
Mouthwashes can be classified as cosmetic and therapeutic. Rinsing with cosmetic mouthwash will loosen bits of food from your teeth, lessen bacteria in mouth, temporarily reduce bad breath and leave a refreshing taste in your mouth. These products can't make a greater claim than that. Therapeutic mouthwashes contains active ingredients like chlorhexidine, fluorides, cetylperidinium etc, which have proven active against fighting plaque and bacteria (s) in mouth for longer duration.

2. Mouthwash is harmless:
Many mouthwashes contains high amount of alcohol which may cause dry mouth and ironically in turn causing bad breath. Alcohol free mouthwashes are also available. Active ingredients like chlorhexidine causes temproary altered taste in mouth and is not recommended to be used for longer duration.

3. Mouthwash cures bad breath:
Mouthwashes temporarily curtains bad breath. Causes of bad breath are variable and should be accessed before unjustified use of mouthwashes.

4. Mouthwash can replace brushing:
Mouthwash acts as an add-on, not replacement for brushing and flossing. Use of mouthwash in conjunction with brushing and flossing will improve overall personal oral hygiene.

5. A little swish will do:
Generally we swish mouthwash in a few seconds because of its bitter taste or lack of knowledge. Mouthwash should be diluted as per the instructions given by the manufacturer and should be swished vigorously for 30 seconds.

Hi am 26 years male. I have a problem of bad breath from my mouth. Please advise me what to do.
Sometimes long term medications are also responsible for bad breath. And the other reason for this condition is due to accumulation of plaque and debris which is not easiely removed with your daily brushing, so consult nearest dentist for scaling.

Hi, lybrate-user. There is a simple home remedy I can suggest you. Try oil pulling using pure coconut oil every morning in empty stomach atleast for 5-10 mts. Take two teaspoon full of coconut oil. Put it in your mouth. Swish it atleast for 5-10 mts. This action supposedly draws out toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall health.

I use to have blood in my gums. I changed my toothpastes. Is there any medicine to get rid of it?

BDS

I use to have blood in my gums. I changed my toothpastes. Is there any medicine to get rid of it?
For bleeding gums 1st thing you need is dental scaling after which you need to use a gum astringent for 2 weeks, still the problem exists than you need a curettage. This will relief your problem. Change of toothpaste will not do anything. You need to clear the debris causing bacteria in mouth, if you ignore you will face periodontal problem.

Importance of Brushing With Tooth Paste!

MDS, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Importance of Brushing With Tooth Paste!

Brushing with toothpaste is important for several reasons.

  • First and foremost, a toothpaste and a correct brushing action work to remove plaque, a sticky, harmful film of bacteria that grows on your teeth that cause cavities, gum disease, and eventual tooth loss if not controlled.
  • Second, toothpaste contains fluoride, which makes the entire tooth structure more resistant to decay and promotes remineralization, which aids in repairing early decay before the damage can even be seen.
  • Third, special ingredients in toothpaste help to clean and polish the teeth and remove stains over time. Fourth, toothpaste help freshen breath and leave your mouth with a clean feeling.

What type of toothpaste should I use?

As long as your toothpaste contains fluoride, the brand you buy really does not matter, neither does whether or not it is in the paste, gel or even powder form or containing a certain flavor. All fluoride toothpaste work effectively to fight plaque and cavities and clean and polish tooth enamel. Your toothpaste brand should bear the ADA (American Dental Association) seal of approval on the container, which means that adequate evidence of safety and efficacy have been demonstrated in controlled, clinical trials.

If your teeth are hypersensitive to hot or cold, consider trying a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. These "desensitizing" toothpaste, which contains strontium chloride or potassium nitrate, protect exposed dentin by blocking the tubes in the teeth that are connected to nerves. Desensitizing pastes must be used for at least one month before any therapeutic effects are felt.

Toothpaste containing baking soda and/or hydrogen peroxide (which are both good cleansing agents) give the teeth and mouth a clean, fresh, pleasant feeling that can offer an incentive to brush more, but fluoride is the true active ingredient at work protecting your teeth. Some prefer a tartar-control toothpaste containing pyrophosphates to prevent the build-up of soft calculus (tartar) deposits on their teeth. New pastes offer advanced whitening formulas aimed at safely removing stains to make teeth brighter and shinier, although they can't nearly match the effectiveness of a professional bleaching formula administered or prescribed by a dentist.

How much should I use?

Contrary to what toothpaste commercials show, the amount of paste or gel needed on your brush for effective cleaning does not have to be a heaping amount. Simply squeeze a pea-sized dab of paste on the top half of your brush. If you brush correctly, holding the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and brush inside, outside and between your teeth, the paste should foam enough to cover all of your teeth. Children under age 6, however, should be given a very small, baby pea-sized dab of toothpaste on their brush.

Is brushing with toothpaste enough to fight cavities and gum disease?

No. Although brushing thoroughly after each meal helps, flossing your teeth every day to remove plaque and food particles between teeth and at the gumline is just as important. Studies show that plaque will regrow on teeth that are completely clean within three to four hours of brushing.
