What was the treatment for sinusitis? Is surgery needed for it and how much treatment costs?

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
If sinusitis is not managed by medication, or recurs frequently, or ct scan suggests extensive disease, then a surgery would be indicated. There are various surgeries depending upon the nature of the problem and so the cost also varies. In our centre, a simple sinus surgery under ga costs about inr 45, 000/-. Regards

I have been suffering from anaemia for 3 years now? My weight has dropped with increased levels of dizziness. What should I do?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
You must do several things correctly to gain weight. A healthy diet: this is the foundation of gaining weight. If you don't do this right, the other things you do won't be effective and could even be harmful. Follow the following tips:- · Pay attention to your health and food intake. · To increase your appetite, have a glass of lime water or 1 cardamom (elaichi) before your meal. · Have minimum 4 meals in a day. · Drink 1 glass of milk twice a day. · Try to enjoy your meals and gradually increase the quantity you eat every time. · A balance diet should have all essential nutrients in it. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It should include combination of Both Carbohydrates and Proteins for e.g. Oats with Milk or Poha/ Upma with a glass of milk. If you do not like milk have 1-2 egg whites in the morning along with your breakfast. · You need to focus on your protein intake : Increase your protein intake e.g. milk, dairy products- cheese, paneer, lentils (dals), nuts ( soya, peanuts, dry fruits ), pulses e.g. rajma, chole, kidney beans etc. sprouts. If you are a non-vegetarian, then you can have proteins by also eating eggs, chicken, fish. Make sure you are including at least 2 serving of any of these in your daily meal. · Lunch and dinner again should be a combination of Proteins, Carbohydrates and Fats which could have dal, roti, sabji/chicken, salad. · Please do have minimum 4 almonds or a small bowl of peanuts every day. · Please ensure that you drink at least 3 litres of water every day. Kindly mention your hb and revert back to me for further assistance.

There are several things you can do to prevent a cold—they are all easy and inexpensive and worth the effort. Wash your hands often-with soap and warm water. The germs stick to the soap and get washed down the drain. Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. Cover Your Mouth and Nose When You Sneeze or Cough- Clean your hands every time you cough or sneeze. Avoid Touching Your Eyes, Nose, or Mouth-Germs are often spread when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. Stay Home When You’re Sick-Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, don’t smoke, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food so you can fend off viruses. Take healthy balanced diet...like boiled eggs.daily in breakfast .. Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. Routinely clean and disinfect common areas of your home. Treatment:There is a gradual 1-3 day onset of symptoms. It often starts out as a sore throat, then a fever and coughing. As the cold progresses, the nasal mucus may thicken which is the last stage before the cold dries up. A cold usually lasts for a week or two. But, taking good care of yourself at home can relieve symptoms and help prevent complications if you are otherwise healthy. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn’t need medical treatment. Complications include bacterial infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs which must be treated with antibiotics. In general you should: • get plenty of rest so your body can use its energy to fight the cold • staying at home will keep you from spreading germs • drink plenty of liquids like herbal tea or hot broth/vegetable/tomato soups. Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can keep you from getting enough sleep Runny Nose and Sneezing- if you have post nasal drip, gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. Drink extra fluids. (avoid sugary and high calorie drinks) Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation • Tablet Nasorest-P once/twice daily may reduce the amount of mucous. • Humidify the rooms you are in most or your whole house if possible. • Do steam inhalation once or twice daily Cough-Coughing is how your body gets rid of debris and mucus from the airways during a viral infection. Unless your cough is severe or is keeping you from resting at night, it is better not to treat it. A severe cough can be treated with a cough syp, but don’t try to completely stop the cough. There are two types of coughs. Productive and non-productive or dry cough. Non-productive, dry cough. A dry, hacking cough may develop near the end of a cold. Dry coughs that follow viral colds are often worse at night and can last up to several weeks. Take syrup Alex-D for a dry cough. Cough drops can sooth an irritated throat, but most don’t affect the cough. Productive cough. A productive cough is one that brings up mucus from the back of the throat or the lungs. Productive coughs should not be suppressed to the point they no longer bring up mucus. Use syrup Alex. Drink lots of water if you have a productive cough. Head and Body Aches- Take tablet dolo-650 mg for fever once or twice daily take augmentin 625 mg thrice daily for 3 days for tonsil

Hi, Your physician has given you the right medicine, i.e. For acidity. It seems to be because of that only. Stomach acids are necessary for the digestion of food. However, if too much acid develops in the stomach, it can cause acid reflux (heartburn) or a disease called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Obesity, pregnancy, and other medical conditions can also lead to increased stomach acid. Management: - Avoid fried, fatty, spicy food, chocolates, tomatoes and citrus fruits. - Eat smaller, more frequent meals. - Give your digestive system an assist from gravity by not eating too close to bedtime. Wait at least 3 hours after eating before you lie down. - Lose excess weight. - Avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages. - Stop smoking. Smoking interferes with digestion and can damage the lining of the esophagus. - Wear loose fitting clothes. Tight waistbands compress the internal organs and may block digestion. - Raise the head of your bed 4 or 5 inches higher than the foot. - Get enough sleep. Try sleeping on your left side. - Avoid stretching or bending after meals. - Chewing your food thoroughly makes it easier to swallow and digest, thus reducing or preventing symptoms of heartburn. - Drink plenty of water. Water has a neutral pH, which can help neutralize stomach acids and help your body absorb nutrients easily. Medication: Take Homoeopathic medicine – Natrum Phos. 6X/ thrice daily 1/2 an hour after the meals. Revert.
