MVSc, BVSc
Veterinarian,
"SCOOP THE POOP"
Every time you take your pet out for his daily business... carry a plastic bag and clean up the poop, to contribute your share to keep our environment clean!
Since dogs are meat eaters, their poop contents nitrogenous wastes and can contaminate nearby water bodies.
Dog poop can carry potentially harmful bacterias and worms, which can spread within the area around and pose risk to other humans and pets..!
Besides, no one likes to step on pet waste and spread it to homes, cars and workplaces.
Be a responsible owner.. Scoop the poop!!!!

Hi, I have a two-year old male cocker spaniel named Zorro. He starts barking whenever he says a stranger on the road be it kids or others or even other dogs. But he absolutely loves the people he knows apart from his family. Since we stay in an apartment I've been trying to figure out what could be done to make him a lil friendly towards people that will calm him down when I walk him daily. He doesn't try to bitw or anything, just barks non-stop. Kindly give me some insight on this. Thanks.

Master of sciences, B.V.Sc. & A.H.
Veterinarian, Salem
In security and non belief of the strangers .This is good as far as concern cocker spaniel . If he is friendly too all they can give him a treat and can steal from you . If wanna stop barking continuously just train the dog . Only way to do it

Training should be started at the age of 3+ months as the age increases the pets power to be get trained decreases so if possible you should go for training along with a professional dog trainer for first two to three months latter on you can carry on

Hi doctor, I have a german shepherd of one and half year old. It is so agressive and barks a lot. We have received complaint from our neighbour regarding this. I just wanted to know is there any injection for dogs to reduce the aggressiveness and not to bark a lot. because I have heard there is a injection for dogs to become calm.

B.V.Sc. & A.H.
Veterinarian, Hoshiarpur
It is a behavioural problem treat the dogs with extra love and affection train him to become calm and avoid undue entry of strangers whole time in dogs area and do not apply force to tackle the problem. Be more friendly and try to play with your dog avoid medication to solely treat this condition

MVSC
Veterinarian, Hyderabad
Check if the injection is an antibiotic you should not miss the third dose I suggest. It is happened so leave it, need not worry too much. As your dog suffered with jaundice previously give Liv-up syrup to help recovery from the jaundice. Give liquid diet along with your regular diet to destress the liver.

Is Kennel Cough Vaccine Really Necessary for Dogs?

B.V.Sc. & A.H.
Veterinarian, Bangalore
Is Kennel Cough Vaccine Really Necessary for Dogs?

Many animals receive “kennel cough” vaccines that include bordetella and cpi and cav-2 every 6 to 9 months without evidence that this frequency of vaccination is necessary or beneficial. In contrast, other dogs are never vaccinated for kennel cough and diseases are not seen. Cpi immunity lasts at least 3 years when given intranasally and cav -2 immunity lasts a minimum of 7 years parenterally for cav-i. These two virus in combination with bordetella bronchiseptica are the agents, which are often associated with kennel cough, however, other factors play an important role in diseases (eg. Stress, dust, humidity, molds, mycoplasma, etc.).

Thus, kennel cough is not a vaccine preventable disease because of the complex factors associated with this disease. Furthermore, this is often a mild to moderate self limiting disease. It's just like common cold in humans. A course of antibiotics usually is enough to treat the condition. I generally do not recommend kennel cough vaccines unless dogs are staying in a boarding facility that requires them.

How To Manage Dehydration In Dogs?

M.V.Sc, B.V.Sc. & A.H.
Veterinarian, Kolkata
How To Manage Dehydration In Dogs?

Dehydration is a common disorder in dogs and humans equally. It occurs when an excess of fluids continuously get eliminated from the body irrespective of the amount of fluids your dog intakes. Water working as the "potion for life" is essential for dogs too as it keeps them hydrated and makes sure the biological processes take place smoothly in them. Dehydration is a serious disorder and may result in as serious consequences as organ failure or even death. To know if your dog is suffering from dehydration, learn the symptoms carefully make a move as quickly as possible.

Symptoms of dehydration in dogs:

  1. Depression
  2. Dryness in the mouth and sticky gums. Often dehydration results in sticky gums and dry mouth in dogs as the water content of the body gradually falls down.
  3. Sunken eyes. Sunken eyes can be considered as a pronounced symptom of dehydration.
  4. Loss of appetite. Appetite is related to dehydration as the digestion, metabolism and other reactions in dog's body need water to successfully take place.
  5. Abnormal sleepiness. Dehydration causes Depression and abnormal rate of sleeping in turn.
  6. Abnormal urination. If your dog is suffering from Dehydration, it will either urinate too little or too much. This abnormal sign in urination speaks a lot about the dehydrated state of your dog.
  7. Less elasticity of skin or tightness of the skin coat. This can be determined by a simple skin test. Pull your dog's skin and if it does not spring back in 2 seconds, your dog is dehydrated.

If you face problems with determining the level of dehydration, kindly take it to a Veterinarian. He/she will readily note the symptoms and apply proper treatment which should be the prime step in order to save your pet from such situations. Delays will only narrow its chances of surviving. It is also important to understand what causes Dehydration in your dog. This would certainly help you from bumping into such situations further in future.

Causes of dehydration in dogs:
The major reason or cause of Dehydration is illness and overexposing to the sunshine. An ill dog is more prone to get dehydrated than a healthy one. Several diseases like,

  1. Fever
  2. Diarrhoea
  3. Vomiting
  4. Renal failure
  5. Diabetes mellitus
  6. Diabetes insipidus
  7. Gastrointestinal problems, etc. can affect your dog on a large scale and trigger off Dehydration with time.

To take care of such situations from taking place, you should keep in mind a few guidelines. The following tips will certainly prevent your dog from being dehydrated again if taken into account.

Prevention of dehydration in dogs:

  1. Protect your dog from being overexposed to heat.
  2. Make it drink as much water as it can every time. Always put a small bowl of water at the corner of its room. Monitor its water intake capacity and keep it hydrated.
  3. Keep the toilet lid closed in order to prevent it from plunging its mouth inside. This will keep it away from bacteria and viruses which would affect it and make it fall sick.
  4. If you go for exercising in the evening with your dog, bring extra water so that it stays hydrated.

Consult with a Veterinarian if its drinking less amount of water.

Hey please any doctor help me my dog has eaten a frog and he is vomiting. please suggests me any fast treatment.

MVSc (Ph.D)
Veterinarian,
Dog is carnivores, it eats many kinds of animals, if given to it, but generally, it kills & does not eat. Vomition is an act of getting out the frog from stomach, it is good thing, I have not encountered such situations as like you, in my opinion, it may digest the frog, by its digestive juices, or more prompt, the frog should be removed by laparotomy means by surgical operation, it is done well. Frogs have obnoxious glands on its skin, due to which there will be vomiting,
