My mother has a backbone tumor. Is the treatment for tumor is only operations or ayurveda.

My mother has a backbone tumor. Is the treatment for tumor is only operations or ayurveda.
It depends on the severity, position and condition of the patient what measures to opt. Ayurveda is definitely gradually working and needs patience and determination of the patient. But no side effects. Surgery is quick removal of tumour but complications may be many. Moreover surgery doesn't stop the tendency of body to form tumor again. If you want discuss further, pl send complete reports.

Nidaanparivarjan is the best tip. That is to avoid cause of illness. However any unctuous application may reduce the pain. You may get one from is too if you don't get elsewhere.

Osteoarthritis - 10 Quick Facts About It!

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
Osteoarthritis - 10 Quick Facts About It!

The degeneration of joint cartilage and bone tissue is known as osteoarthritis. This condition affects the elderly and greatly reduces their quality of life by making movement stiff and painful. Here are ten fast facts about osteoarthritis.

  1. Age is not the only trigger: This condition affects the elderly but can also affect middle aged people as well. Apart from age, muscle strength and the amount a joint is used also play an important part in the development of this condition.
  2. It is the most common joint disorder: Osteoarthritis is the most common disease that affects the elderly across the world. In many cases, it goes undiagnosed until late since the onset of the condition is very gradual.
  3. It affects weight bearing joints: The knees, hips and spine are the most commonly affected by this condition. This is because these joints bear the weight of the body. However, it can also affect other joints including the fingers, elbows etc.
  4. Women are at a higher risk of suffering from this than men: Until the age of 45 men and women have the equal risks of suffering from osteoarthritis. However, as women get older, their risks of suffering from this condition increase.
  5. It can be managed: If diagnosed in its early stages, osteoarthritis can be easily managed. Treatment for this condition focuses on controlling pain and slowing the progression of the disease.
  6. Weight loss can make it easier: Obesity is one of the common factors that can trigger this condition. The more weight you put on your joints, the more susceptible it is to osteoarthritis. Hence, losing weight instantly lowers the pressure on your joints and reduces the risk of osteoarthritis.
  7. It is the leading cause of disability amongst the elderly: This condition should not be ignored as simple joint pain. In many cases, this musculoskeletal condition can cause so much pain that it restricts movement and in time leads to disability.
  8. It runs in families: Osteoarthritis is a hereditary condition and can be passed down genetically from one generation to the next.
  9. Rest can relieve pain: Late stage osteoarthritis is characterized by locked joints and severe pain whenever moved. Avoiding jerky movements and letting the joint rest can help ease the pain.
  10. Exercise can help: The above point should not be used as an excuse to avoid exercise. Exercising the joints increases flexibility and helps increase the range of movements possible. Simple yoga asanas, walking and swimming are some exercises to start off with. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

1.. Go for fasting once a week. You can go for absolute fasting or rely on a liquid diet to digest ama (toxin). Fasting should be followed by hot fomentation or by taking a bath with lukewarm water or steam bath. 2.. After fasting and fomentation, mix powdered long pepper, black pepper and dried ginger in equal quantities and take 1 teaspoon of this powdered mix with lukewarm water twice a day. This will help you restore your digestive fire. 3.. Take one tablespoon of castor oil before going to bed, once or twice a week. It helps in cleansing ama (toxin) build up and balancing vata. 4.. Mix equal quantities of powdered fenugreek seeds, turmeric and ginger powder. Take one teaspoon daily in the morning and evening. 5.. For dry fomentation of the affected joints, take a cloth and fold it into four, fill it with hot and sand make a potli (bag) out of it. Use this bundle for the fomentation of different joints. This is very helpful in reducing pain and swelling. 6..Warm mustard oil or sesame oil (1 teaspoon) with 3-4 cloves of crushed garlic and 1 tsp of ajwain (carom) seeds until it roasts to a reddish brown colour. Ensure that it does not get burned. Massage this oil on your affected areas. After that do hot fomentation with salt potli (bag.

I am 30 years male suffering from backpain since last 6 months. Working at seating job.

Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS
Orthopedist, Chennai
I am 30 years male suffering from backpain since last 6 months. Working at seating job.
Hi Mr. Lybrate-user after reading your complaints of back ache since 6 month duration with your working style of sitting for long hours, it's most likely a mechanical backache. I wanted to know if the pain is radiating to legs with any numbness in legs or any tingling sensation in foot. You have to focus on your ergonomics like changing in to a comfortable chair. Avoiding long hours of sitting. Your desk to chair distance and other ailments. Most importantly you have to start doing back exercises everyday concentrating more on core abdomen exercises and back strengthening exercises. Medicines will reduce the pain only temporarily. So update me with the information I asked and we can set you alright. Get well soon Dr. Sripal.

My mother had left knee replacement 1 month ago.She is doing physiotherapy at home and has pain and heaviness of leg till now. When will it get reduced?operation was done on 30th January,2015.

DNB, MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Full recovery from knee replacement can take up to 3-4 months and swelling can take upto an year to go, so don't worry as long as the the wound is healed and she is doing the knee mobilization and knee muscle strengthening exercises that would have been taught at the hospital. Try to keep the legs elevated when she's not walking to prevent leg swelling.
