Bursitis - 4 Ways You Can Prevent it

Bursitis is a disorder that is characterized by inflammation of a fluid filled sac called the bursa. Bursa is present in between various tissues such as muscles, tendons and bones where friction may occur. This sac cushions the tissues and prevents friction. The usual areas that are affected by this condition are hip, shoulder and the elbows.

The symptoms of bursitis are:
1. You will experience pain in the affected area
2. Tightness and stiffness in the area
3. Local swelling of the muscle
4. Redness of the area
5. Any physical contact with the area causes pain

Bursitis may also occur due to the following reasons:
1. Ageing results in loss of elasticity of the tendons, thus impairing their ability to tolerate any stressful activity
2. Sports such as baseball where you are required to throw the ball with force may lead to bursitis
3. If you do tasks that require kneeling down on a regular basis
4. Sitting on hard surfaces for extended periods of time
5. Abnormalities such as improperly placed joints
6. Inflammation from other conditions such as gout, thyroid disorders and rheumatoid arthritis may lead to bursitis

Treatment
The condition is treated by using a variety of methods such as exercise and medication. Antibiotics are used to treat any underlying infection causing bursitis. Injections may be administered to reduce inflammation in the affected area along with exercises to strengthen the affected muscle. In severe cases, the doctor may resort to surgery to treat this condition.

Prevention
You may use certain preventive measures to stay clear of bursitis. Some of them are
1. Lift with proper form: If you are lifting something heavy, then make sure you keep the spine straight and bend your knees slightly.
2. Take breaks: Don’t remain in the same position for long durations, take small breaks and walk around to release the stress from your legs.
3. Exercise: Do strength building workouts to build strength in the joints. Include mobility and flexibility stretches in your routine to keep your joints healthy, thus increasing the range of motion.
4. Maintain optimal weight levels: If you are obese, then take steps to reduce your weight. Maintain a proper diet to check your waistline. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

This is very common in this age. Follow the tips to reduce your knee pain and consult with me online for ayurvedic treatment. Tips. 1. Massage of oil on knee 2. Hot fomentation 3. Hi, you should not be worried about your hair problem try to stop your hair from scalp taking some natural home remedy like curd, mehendi, alovera and amlaki mix it propery and get it filtered and use before bath have scalp massage 15 mnts then washed it off. Apply keshrakhya or neelibhringa raj oil. Take calcium and minerals. Ok.

Try to organise your work table by siting at knee height chair, desktop screen around 12-14 inches away and at level of eye if you do lot of typing than elbows should be resting at the table while typing do neck isometric exercises.

Tk physiotherapy treatment with rest. Not permanent only maintaing by physio. Surgery is the last option but risky after relief you can start sm exercise like spine extension, and strectching exercise.

. Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Hello, constipation is a very common gastro intestinal problem. Constipation may causes flatulence, acidity, abdominal discomfort, swollen abdomen or pain abdomen, nausea vomiting etc. Following homoeopathic medicines are useful in treatment of constipation:- 1. Bio combination no. 04, 4 tablets at a time, three times a day, 15 min. After meals. 2. Bryonia 30, 3 drops, morning empty stomach for 7 days. 3. Nux vomica 30, 3 drops, after dinner at bed time for 7 days. 4. Take causticum 200, 5 drops, once in a week. Avoid the following foods that can cause constipation include: chocolate dairy products red meat bananas and caffeine tips to prevent constipation have more fibres in your diet. 25 to 30 grams of daily intake can prevent constipation. Fibres help retain water in the stools thus making them softer and easier to expel. Whole grain cereals and breads dried fruits, such as prunes and raisins popcorn, nuts, and seeds beans and legumes raw fruits and vegetables drink plenty of fluids, preferably water. 8 glasses a day will help. Have more if you are physically active. Prune (manukka) juice, and other fruit drinks are known to normalise bowel motility.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am dr akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Your elbow pain can be due to multiple reasons: 1) it could be due to ligament strain in elbows since you are doind gymn 2) it could be due to inflammation around epicondyles which is very common my advise would be to manage it like an acute inflammation, so lots of ice packs, local analgesic spray, short course of anti-inflammatory medication which suits you, restriction of your physical activity till pain completely subsides. We will observe this protocol for around 2 weeks, if your pain persists, then we will get some tests done for you. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Lybrate-user ji you did not mentioned weight of your father. If he is overweight ge need to reduce it. Use only western toilt nd not indian toilet. Do not use staircase. Do not bend your knee more than 90 degree.

1) do massage with warm sesame oil or suitable oil for 15 min. Afterwards take hot fomentation for 10 min. 2) start natural calcium supplement. 3) do regular stretching exercise 4) in yoga do bhujangasan, halasan & suryanamaskar. Life-style correction 1) correct your sitting posture. 2) take small pillow or back rest for lower back. 3) foot should rest to floor easily. 4) take small break after 1 hr & walk few steps. 5) do neck & upper back extension, give feedback after 4 days.

These are possibly snapping sounds from tendons. You need to do more exercises. It needs to be investigated. Investigations advised - hb, tlc, dlc, esr, sugar f & pp, uric acid, vit d3 urine r/e anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. SPRING BEDS, FOLDING BEDS OR THICK MATRESS ARE HARMFUL Use no pillow under the head. DO HOT FOMANTATION. Paracetamol 250mg OD & SOS x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab OD x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again.. Do not ignore .It could be beginning of a serious problem.

On 16th oct my wife aged 57 years slipped and felled on hipps and was having severe pain on upper side of hipps & in spine area. On next day I took her to Doctor, he prescribed medicine for five days & Xray of Dl Spine AP after 2 days of incident there is no relief in pain & swelling. Dear Doctors I am mentioning below the highlighted text of xray report and please send the medical advice urgently. 1. There is decreased vertebral body height of D11 and D12 vertebra. 2. Hi lybrate-user X-ray report conveys compression of D11, 12 vertebral body. I would suggest wearing of Taylor brace for back in whole day except while in bed at night, she must sleep on firm mistress in most comfortable posture. This would lend immobilization of spine and relieve pain and provide healing. It may take up to 8 to 12 weeks for complete healing. Nothing to worry. Just support in brace and avoid any bending and twisting of back, avoid forward bending specially. She may use English comode and avoid squatting in toilet. Pain medicines till acute phase is over. Apply vivaran gel after hot fomentation of back before wearing brace. Intake of calcium and Vitamin D3 supplements to promote healing. Attend spine clinics in your city or hospital for orthopaedic consultation. Breathing exercises, light non constipating diet, avoid foods causing acidity, flatulence, and take isapgol daily at bed time. Hope this will take care of her needs. Best wishes Thanks.

Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - some blood tests like serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp help in better diagnosis of such condition.
