If it is not associated with dehydration or weight loss, you need not worry about it. Small frequent stools are normal at this age. If you really want to be sure about it - you may go for microscopic examination of stool in a laboratory. That will confirm the cause.

White stool or black laces are not known with lactogen or cerelac, so you can continue, but stop cow's milk if you r giving. Start other food too coz lactogen is not enough now. Cerelac should not go for more than 1-2 times a day. Rest of times give home made food.

Rheumatic Fever in Kids - How It Impacts Your Child?

M.D(Pediatrics), MBBS

Rheumatic Fever in Kids - How It Impacts Your Child?

Rheumatic fever is a kind of autoimmune ailment that can occur as a result of group A streptococcal throat infection leading to inflammatory lesions in the connective tissues of the body. This disease specifically affects the joints, heart, blood vessels and various subcutaneous tissues located all over the body.

History of the effects of rheumatic fever:
The disease has been evaluated and depicted since the 1500s, though the connection between the rheumatic fever, and the throat infection was not found out until it was late 1880s. And the sore throat was also related to the rash, which is caused by streptococcal exotoxins, along with fever. Rheumatic fever was one of the leading causes of deaths in children as well as one of most common reasons behind the acquired heart diseases in adults before the invention and availability of penicillin.

Reasons behind the causes of rheumatic fever:
Even though adolescents and adults may be affected by the rheumatic fever, it mostly affects children aged between 5 to 15 years. It is a common disease in areas like South-Central Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and several parts of New Zealand and Australia. Group A streptococcus bacterium is the primary cause of this fever, and it also leads to scarlet fever in some people. It makes the body attack its own tissues once it has been attacked by the bacteria. This particular reaction leads to widespread inflammation throughout the body and forms the basis of all the common symptoms of the rheumatic fever.

You may have to take your child for the strep test if you notice any of the following symptoms:

  1. A sore throat and red rashes all across or in certain parts of the body.
  2. If your child has tender or swollen lymph nodes that are causing difficulty in swallowing.
  3. Tonsils that are filled with pus or red and swollen.

Harmful impacts of the rheumatic fever:

Developed mostly due to strep throat infection, it can affect the heart, skin, joints and nervous system of children. Though it may not affect all who have gone through a strep throat infection, it can lead to long-term diseases of the heart and its valves and is termed as a rheumatic heart disease. Since each attack of rheumatic fever may cause further damage to the heart, it is very crucial to make sure that your child doesn’t have one more attack of the fever, and it is therefore, important to have regular doses of penicillin injections and consult a specialist for receiving further advice on treatments and prevention.

Do not give toffee, chocolette and other ready made foods to the baby. Make the child eat normal diet and ask him to eat break fast, lunch and dinner at usual timings. You have to be strict.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Your daughter is just 3 and half years. Please consider her age. Children do act according to what they are trained for. You must understand you can easily train your child to do whatever you want. For training you have to first understand the child and her needs. You can use trial and error method or reward punishment method. If you don't have time, a psychologist should help you. I suggest online behaviour therapy for your child. Take care.

I'm 27 year old mother if a nine month old baby girl from Bangalore. Baby has four teeth up and two teeth down, she almost bites me 3 of 5 times when breast feeding, it pains a lot and burns next time when fed. I'm afraid whether she will bite or feed, I tried in quiet room, properly latched her, but same us repeated. Please help me to solve this issue, when I reacted for it, she made a nursing strike for one day, which was more painful than that, please help me.

Please try offering semi-solid food. Breast milk alone is unable to meet baby's requirement as the baby grows. Not offering breast if your baby bites will be a negative reinforcement and she will stop biting you while feeding.

Effects of Parental Alienation Syndrome on Children

Post Graduate Diploma in Pyschology
Psychologist, Noida
Effects of Parental Alienation Syndrome on Children

In many cases; divorce and separation leads not only to bad blood between the parents, but also in a child alienating himself from one parent. Insulting or belittling one parent without justification or under pressure from the other parent is known as parental alienation syndrome. Parental alienation involves one parent undermining the other and interfering with the child’s relationship with the other parent by limiting contact with them, bad mouthing them, forbidding discussion about them etc. This can have a very negative effect on the child’s emotional state.

1. Self hatred: For children, hatred is not inborn, but developed by the situations they are in. By bad mouthing a parent and teaching the child to hate the parent, the child himself is harmed. With time, he begins to internalize this hatred and believe that there is something wrong with him that made the alienated parent not want him.

2. Low self esteem: When a child is not allowed to speak his mind and has to bottle up his thoughts, he becomes socially withdrawn. Often the child begins to feel that he is the cause for the rift in the family and makes himself responsible for the separation. This intensifies with time and makes the child lose confidence in himself leading to low self esteem.

3. Lack of trust: When a child is suddenly pulled away from one parent and told how that parent is not a ‘good person’ the child is likely to feel betrayed. This creates a sense of doubt in the child’s mind and makes it difficult for him to trust other people. As he grows up, this can affect his own adult relationships as well.

4. Depression: Depression is a commonly seen in children from broken homes and this is intensified in cases of parental alienation. It is rooted in the child’s feeling unloved by either one of the parents and built up by the separation. Not being given a chance to speak about their feelings or talk about the situation makes them more depressed and they begin to withdraw into themselves. In many cases, it is noted that alienated children have strained relationships with their own children as well.

5. Substance abuse: Depression is one of the most common triggers for substance abuse. Alienated children often feels trapped and that they have no outlet to vent their feelings and frustrations. This often makes them turn towards drugs for relief and can make them victims of substance abuse.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Please understand the procedure of your baby to take the correct position during the delivery is a little bit complicated and therefore please do not search for this online or through internet. The advise will be given by your gynecologist and there is nothing to be panic about this. Take care.

Once you have stopped feeding from last one month, there is very little milk secretion. She must have stopped feeding on you because either milk was very less or u must be giving her bottle milk. There are some galactogauges which can increase ur milk production. If still she is not taking then u can express ur milk in a bowl and feed her with the spoon
