What is the heart attack about to me in full details and how many people are dead by heart attack?

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
I do not have a data about how many are dead by now. Heart attacks occur when blood supply to heart is blocked due to deposits called plaque.

I am 42 years old all body weakness no mind any work. have cholesterol and diabetes. Please help.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take green veg., whole grain.garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Dear sir/madam, my mother suffering from high blood pressure & thyroid problem so could you tell me the proper health diet for her & some healthy tips as well.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Avoid excess salt in diet take 8-10 glass water daily avoid fried and spicy food and coffee take a nutritious diet and a early morning walk start doing kapal bhati pranayam daily for 15 minutes. To start with do for 3-5 minutes nd slowly increase upto 15 minutes. The procedure for doing this asana is o sit in a comfortable crossed leg posture, sukasana (using padmasana or vajrasanais the best) and keep your back straight. Rest your hands on the knees using gyana mudra or chin mudra. O inhale deeply trough your nose, this will expand you abdomen. O exhale using a great force so that your abdominal muscles contract to the maximum o these exhalations are similar to your breath outs, but they should be forceful o make sure while exhaling, the air should be pushed out of your lungs by contracting the diaphragm o after exhalation again do inhalation, but this time with out any effort. To do this just relax your lungs, they will automatically expand and fill with air o one cycle of kapalabhati pranayama include one deep inhalation, then forceful exhalation and an effortless inhalation. O a learner can practice up to three rounds, each with 15 exhalations. Small breaks between each round are allowed.

I had a open heart surgery four months back. It was done by taking a vein from my left leg. It is cured but there is still swelling on the left leg and left foot. Please Advise the cure ?

Diploma in Family Medicine, Fellowship in Diabetology, Diploma in Diabetology, FCCP, MBBS
General Physician,
1. Due to the vein harvest blood flow is interupted in the normal flow pattern - so swelling occurs. 2. It will slowly settle down within 12 months.

I am 23 year old girl and I have always some chest pain in my left side what can I do?

MD - Consultant Physician
Cardiologist, Kolkata
This type of pain is either neurogenic or muscular pain. If intolerable then take paracetamol 1 or 2 times aday for one or two days. Better ignore it.

I have taken up a preventive test and few items are inbred, please help interpret the report Cardiac Risk Makers:- apolipoprotein -A1 (APO-A1)-97mg/DL apolipoprotein -B (APO-A1)-97mg/DL High Sensitivity C Reactive Protein (hs-CRP)- 8.81mg/L APO B/APO A1 Ratio: 1 Liver apart amino transferase (SGOT)-38.5U/l Alanine Transaminase (SGPT)-52.7U/l Please note I have diabetes 2 and its avg of 140 I am on no medication from past 1 year.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Liver enzymes are normal, c reactive protein is high -it can be due to infection/inflammation anywhere in the body, need not be due to heart or only due to heart in absence of specific symptoms of other organs, apo-1 is normal it is a fat+protein combo in blood that is water soluble and keeps circulating in the blood, in a way it reflects the good cholesterol which should be at a higher level to prevent blockages in the blood vessels, apo-b is very high -means it is a precursor of bad cholesterol in the blood that is responsible for blockages and plaque formation. Your dm-2 is under control with medication. You have to bring down apo-b by cutting down bad fats like transfats, oily food, etc which I am sure you are doing to control your dm. By increasing good cholesterol precursors like apo-1 & other apos except b (remember b for bad) your chances of getting bad fats on higher levels will get reduced. Take water with a spoon of honey (allowed for dm) with juice of a lemon every morning on empty stomach -it does burn bad fats, eat a spoon of good fats like desighee/ butter + a katori of assorted nuts every day (allowed for dm) cut down extra carbs in place of good calories gained.

Avoiding salt, losing weight, eating vegetables and stress relief are quick ways to lower your blood pressure.

Quitting smoking, decreasing alcohol intake, and reducing caffeine consumption are good long-term strategies to lower your blood pressure as well.

Focusing on balanced nutrition and eating foods that are low in cholesterol and saturated fat. These include fruits and veggies, whole grains, and low or no-fat dairy products.

In addition to exercise, other forms of relaxation like meditation or deep breathing are also helpful. Making the right lifestyle choices also helps control blood pressure.

No this is not the reason. It is a very common congenital disease that is found in children. So don't blame yourself for it.
