Hi. Many factors are responsible for a person's constitution - genes, basal metabolic rate, general health, any hormonal imbalance (like thyroid dysfunction), nature & behaviour (optimistic & happy-go-lucky people put on weight), the type of food intake (fried, oily, rich & high caloried food add to your weight), lifestyle (sedentary or physical activity). The food what and how you eat, makes the difference! For increasing your weight, concentrate on the below points ( if you don’t have any medical condition) which helps in gaining weight in a right way without harming your body. - Consume more healthy fats. Foods containing healthy fats are full of nutrients and also high in calories, making them a great option for weight gain. Foods containing plant fats should be your first option - this includes items such as nuts, seeds, peanut butter, avocados and olive oil. Foods containing healthy animals fats include lean meats and full fat dairy products - although if you have high cholesterol, you should probably stick to low-fat options. -Eat more protein. Good sources of protein include lean meat, fish and poultry, in addition to eggs, whole grains, dairy products and legumes. -Drink more calories. Try drinking a large glass of orange juice in the mornings (along with your normal breakfast). Drink a glass or two of full-cream milk throughout the day.Protein shakes will help you to gain muscle mass, particularly if you're working out. -Have 6 small and frequent meals in a day. -Gain muscle mass. It's a good idea to continue to exercise while you attempt to gain weight the healthy way. Strength training includes working with weights and performing exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, bicep curls, crunches, chin-ups and leg curls. Just keep in mind that the more you exercise, the more calories you will need to consume to replace those you lost while working out. This is where protein shakes and bars really come in handy. -Quit smoking. As it suppresses the appetite. -Stay healthy. The most important thing through the entire weight gain process is to stay healthy - eating a balanced diet and continuing to exercise throughout. -Take enough of rest and sleep for rejuvenation of the cells and tissues. -Think Positive which will help you in achieving your target of gaining weight. -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Alfaalfa Tonic and Five Phos., both thrice daily ½ an hour before meals for 1month.

Eating rice 3 times is not good....have protein rich foods like all milk and milk products, eggs, pulses, sprouts, nuts, tofu, rajmah, chole, soyabean, paneer, chicken, fish etc to gain healthy weight.

I am 18 years old girl. Day by day I am getting weak and always feeling tired. First My HB was 7.5gm then after some weeks it was 9gm. Now recently I checked it again so now it is 8gm. It is increasing so slowly n decreasing so fast .I am worried about this. I am a boxing player I have to do 1 to 2 hrs workout everyday .but I feel weak and tired all the time. hello Sana..main reason for that you are not taking sufficient energy according to body requirement..you are burning your enegy more than taking energy..so 1st main thing take healthy nutritive diet.. maximum intake of juices.. take high protein high iron diet.. take pomegranate juice daily.. take rest after eating something.. include dry mixed nuts in your diet.. use peanut oil..its very good source of iron.. take raisin daily..

Mr wasim khan, looking at your weight and height, your bmi is 22.87 kg/m2 which is just normal. It is really excellent to have this kind of weight and height. I do not see any reason why one should think of increasing the weight. If your diabetes is under check, then this weight is fine. Please mention your fasting, pp levels and hba1c%, so that I may be able to guide.

Carbohydrates in the meals should be only 40%. This means reducing on chapatis (2-3 thin) or 200gm cooked rice only. Everything on the plate should be coloured vegetables, dals, curds, salads. Eating this kind of light meals with some snacks like sprouts, handful of peanuts, salads or bread slices (1-2) in between meals will help to keep sugars in a steady level without sudden highs or lows.

If Laproscopic Appendectomy is done, You may start moderate heavy work after 6 months but if it is Open Appendectomy it is better to start heavy exercise after one year gradually.

Have Pleasant Meals: Meal time should be a pleasant time rather than a hurried affair. You should thoroughly enjoy every meal. Listening to soothing music while dining can be very helpful. Furthermore,research conducted by Professors Brian Wansink and Koert van Ittersum at Cornell University suggest that by eating in larger cups and bowls, one may increase the consumption of food compared to when eating in smaller cups and bowls.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. For an adult who is not having any disease like diabetes, taking the drink mentioned is fine. Even adding some sugar is also not a problem. However, if you are looking for additional proteins to supplement your present diet with that drink, then it is not worth it. Because protein quantity is very marginal. Just 0.7 g per tablespoon ful. So it is absolutely useless to drink such a thing for additional proteins. If you are looking for actual proteins then take 2 eggs every day (boiled or fried) which will provide about 6.5 to 8 g of proteins per egg. Taking bournvita with milk for pleasure is fine. No real nutritional value. Thanks.

Hello you need to understand the concept of weight loss, it requires cut down in calories (under the guidance of dietitian) along with exercises like brisk walking or cycling or yoga and stretching or any sport you love 5 days a week for at-least 25-30 mins. Include foods like green tea, lemon water, jeera water, salad vegetables like onion, tomato, cucumber, kakri, cabbage and fruits like melon, watermelon, plums. Avoid fried foods, carbonated drinks, sweets and processed foods. Drink plenty of water. Take small and regular meals like 3 main meals and 2 side meals. Take chamomile tea before going to bed. Don't skip breakfast. Sleep for 7-9 hours per night. Thank you.

Standing calf stretch Stand away from a wall and.put your fight foot behind you and be sure your toes are facing forward. Lean forward at the ankle while bending the right knee and keeping your heel on the ground. Hold this for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat 10 times a twice a day.
