How Ayurveda Helps Treat Allergic Rhinitis?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), MD- Ayurveda
Ayurveda,
How Ayurveda Helps Treat Allergic Rhinitis?

Allergic rhinitis is defined as allergic symptoms in the nasal passage. Allergic rhinitis can be seasonal (occurring during specific seasons) or perennial (occurring year round). The allergens that most commonly cause seasonal allergic rhinitis include pollens from trees, grasses and weeds, as well as spores from fungi and moulds. The allergens that most commonly cause perennial allergic rhinitis are house dust mites, cockroaches, animal dander and fungi or moulds. Perennial allergic rhinitis tends to be more difficult to treat.

How does allergic rhinitis occur ?

This condition occurs when allergens (allergy- causing substances) come into contact with the nose, and usually also the ears, sinuses, and the throat. When allergens come in contact with the lining of the nose and sinuses, they trigger the cells to release the chemical histamine, which causes the allergy symptoms described below.

What are the symptoms ?

  • Nasal congestion
  • Sneezing
  • Watery " runny nose"
  • Itchy eyes,nose,or throat
  • Puffy eyes or 'allergic shiners'
  • Post nasal drip
  • Tears

These symptoms may occur during a certain season or year long. They can occur at any age.

Risk factors for allergic rhinitis

Allergies can affect anyone, but you’re more likely to develop allergic rhinitis if your family has a history of allergies. Some external factors can trigger or worsen this condition, including:

  • Cigarette smoke
  • Chemicals
  • Cold temperatures
  • Humidity
  • Wind
  • Air pollution
  • Hairspray
  • Perfumes
  • Colognes
  • Wood smoke
  • Fumes

Ayurvedic concept of rhinitis:

As per Ayurveda, Allergic rhinitis is compared with Vata- Kaphaja pratishaya. The concept of Ama, Asatmya and virudh aahara also predict the allergic conditions.

Ama is the product of impaired digestion and metabolism. It affects Rasa and Rakta Dhatu leading to manifestation of Pratishyaya. Wrong food combinations (Virudh aahar) having antagonist properties like fish with milk, fruit juice with milk, clarified butter with honey, ice cream after night meals, etc. leads to allergy.

Ayurveda believes in balancing the three doshas present in the human body, thus treating the disease on the whole. Treatment involves clearing the sinuses and expelling phlegm, alleviating the relevant dosha and detoxification. To permanently resolve this disorder, dietary and lifestyle adjustments may be necessary in addition to the strengthening of the immune system. Panchakarma is an effective means of treating Allergic Rhinitis.

Ayurvedic treatment for allergic rhinitis:

  1. If the symptoms are severe and in chronic conditions, Vamana Panchakarma treatment, followed by Virechana is administered. This helps to relieve Ama and balance Tridosha.
  2. In some cases, where the patient has normal digestion strength, Nasya treatment (nasal drops therapy) is administered with herbal oils such as Anu taila or Shadbindu Taila.
  3. After the above Panchakarma treatments, Ayurvedic medicines are administered to improve respiratory immunity and strength of upper respiratory tract.

Useful Ayurvedic medicines in treating allergic rhinitis:

  1. Nimbarajanyadi tablet – Contains neem and turmeric as main ingredients.
  2. Chavikasavam – Fermented Ayurvedic liquid, also used in urinary tract disorders.
  3. Mahalaxmi Vilas Ras – Also useful in the treatment of skin diseases, diabetes, Sinus, non healing wounds, etc.

Other medicines: Narada lakshmi vilas rasa, Anand bhairava rasa, tribhuvan kirti rasa, shringarabharaka rasa, Mayur shringa bhasma, Abhraka bhasma, Lavangadi pills, Sitopaladi choorna, Marichayadi yoga, vyoshadi pills, Khadiradi pills are suggested.

Diet management:

  1. Take – Light food, lukewarm water, Kapha nashaka foods like little spicy food, saindhav salt, legumes, soups etc.
  2. Avoid – heavy food, fermented food, congestive food, too hot or too cold food, soar food, non vegetarian food, sweets, banana, curd, yogurt, ice creams, deserts, cakes, yellow grams, etc.
    1. Avoid Alcohol and cold beverages.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda.

I have severe migraine from the past 20 years. Now my age is 58 what can I do now please suggest me.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, Self-care measures can help ease the pain of a migraine headache. Try muscle relaxation exercises. Relaxation techniques may include progressive muscle relaxation, meditation or yoga. Get enough sleep, but don't oversleep. Get an adequate amount of sleep each night. It's best to go to bed and wake up at regular times, as well. If possible, rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the back of your neck and apply gentle pressure to painful areas on your scalp. Medication: Take Bakson's Mig-Aid tablet/ 1 tablet 3 times a day.

If you masturbate frequently because you feel lonely, find ways to be as socially engaged as possible. This means that you should join as many clubs or activities as you can, accept and give more invitations to people, and go out of your way to make more friends. If you want to date someone, consider asking a friend to set you up or join an online dating site. •Another thing you can do is to limit the times when you are likely to be home alone. If you tend to masturbate in the hour or two before your parents get home from work, go for a walk during that time, or do your homework in a coffee shop. •Even if all of your friends are busy, you can still limit your impulse to masturbate by going out in public. For instance, instead of watching the game at home by yourself, watch it at a sports bar. Even if you're not hanging out with friends, you will not be alone, ultimately having no time for masturbation. Stop watching porn on your computer. Reduce masturbation to once a week OR you are likely to suffer from PE/ED.

Hi lybrate-user, if your father follow the diet and do walk for 30 minutes in 5 days a week, he will control his diabetes, for that ask him to take one spoon fenugreek seed (soaked overnight) and take then in early morning daily, he should include all green leafy vegetable in his diet, multigrain cereals, nuts, avoid achaar, papad, sweet food items and artifical sweeteners. In fruits he can eat citrus fruits orange, mausambi, apple, pomegranate and other he can take but amount does matter, if you need the diet plan for him.

This is why sometimes people think they look great in a mirror but terrible. Having a photo taken of your head and shoulders at a 90-degree. A group photo, it takes a while for people to faff around and get ready. Some people don't like having their photo taken, sure. You are not as ugly as you think.

I am 37 years old. I am suffering from cold and running nose for the past 2 months. What should I do?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine

I am 37 years old. I am suffering from cold and running nose for the past 2 months. What should I do?
Sneezing, sore throat, a stuffy nose, coughing - everyone knows the symptoms of the common cold. It is probably the most common illness. What can you do for your cold or cough symptoms? besides drinking plenty of fluids and getting plenty of rest, you may want to take medicines. There are lots of different cold and cough medicines, and they do different things. Nasal decongestants - unclog a stuffy nose. I. E. Nasivion cough suppressants - quiets a cough. Syp. Brozedax expectorants - loosen mucus so you can cough it up. Zeet expectorant antihistamines - stop runny noses and sneezing. Levocetirizine pain relievers - ease fever, headaches, and minor aches and pains. Flucold here are some other things to keep in mind about cold and cough medicines. Read labels, because many cold and cough medicines contain the same active ingredients. Taking too much of certain pain relievers can lead to serious injury. Do not give cough medicines to children under four, and don't give aspirin to children.
