Acne or pimples is most commonly seen in teenagers and young adults, just around the time the body is undergoing hormonal adjustments. Thus, acne is not simply just a skin problem, but often an indication of internal bodily disturbances. Of course, there are other combination of aggravating factors at play, like genetics, active sebaceous glands and bacterial organisms that reside within the sebaceous glands. 

An otherwise easily treatable condition, acne can result in permanent scars if left untreated, often resulting in low self-esteem, social isolation, depression and even suicidal ideation. 

The skin acts as a window to internal disorders and many individuals with acne are found to have internal hormonal problems like polycystic ovary syndromes or insulin resistance syndromes. Females can have associated excessive hair on the chin, hair loss on the scalp, weight gain, menstrual abnormality and infertility.

  1. Diet does not have a major role in causing acne but cutting down on foods with high sugar content and milk may be useful.
  2. Certain medications and creams containing steroids can precipitate an outbreak of acne
  3. Heavy and greasy cosmetics will aggravate acne.
  4. Special soaps, face washes, lotions, and so-called unscientific blood purifiers are of little help.
  5. Acne scars are repaired with newer dermatological technologies and techniques. 

Just like with any other medical condition, each individual is different and will require a unique investigation and treatment plan. Why do a homemade chemical peel?

A homemade, natural chemical peel helps you control the ingredients and avoid all the toxic elements of the store-bought versions.

Almost all of us have some scarring of some sort on our bodies. I have a scar on the inside of my arm from some barbed wire after falling off of a cow. (They do NOT like to be saddled, by the way!) I have another on my knee from rock climbing near the river. These aren’t large and they don’t bother my self esteem at all. However, scars like burns, perhaps on the neck or arms, or severe acne scars on the face can lead to low self esteem and even send people into hiding. This is where chemical peels can greatly benefit you.

I like to do a chemical peel once a month just to be sure there is nothing left behind on my skin after my normal beauty routine.

Natural Homemade Chemical Peel

You can go very mild with this recipe or go for a deeper peel with stronger acids. The variations are listed after the recipe.

Ingredients

1 small cucumber, seeded and pureed (about 1 cup)
1 package or 1 Tbsp. unflavored gelatin (find it here)
a few drops natural liquid meat tenderizer (find it here) OR ¼ tsp. powdered meat tenderizer (like this)
a dash of ground cinnamon (adding too much may irritate skin)
water if necessary
Process

Place the cucumber inside a medium sized bowl and sprinkle with the gelatin. Add a little water if it doesn’t start to dissolve.
Sprinkle the meat tenderizer and cinnamon over the cucumber mixture and stir well to combine. The gelatin will dissolve and become pasty. Add water if you need to make it spreadable.
Spread this over your face and allow it to dry, 15-20 minutes.
When completely dry, start at the jaw line and slowly peel from your face. Rinse off any residue and follow with moisturizer if you wish.

I am on medication for hypertension. With one coversyl plus a day, the result is 80/145. I sometimes feel giddiness. I am told it is because of medication. Is there any other way?

If it is due to medication than you must change the medicine with the help of dr and record your BP at different timings and follow your drs advise

Dear Lybrate User, Increasing weight does not mean that you will go fatty. In fact, extra fat serves as a precursor of many diseases. In order to increase your weight as well as stay healthy you have to increase the muscle mass of your body. Normally a muscle undergoes an increase in size when it gets hypertrophied due to weight training. Weight-training leads to the pumping of blood to the muscle resulting in increased protein synthesis in the muscles. This applies to every muscles of human body. So, weight training is a must to increase weight. Whenever a muscle gets hypertrophied it demands protein to expand. Here comes the need of protein supplement. The most effective protein supplement is WHEY protein. But kindly remember only taking supplement is not enough. You need to take those supplements according to a fixed schedule. For quicker & better results take 40 grams of whey just after waking from sleep at morning. Take another 20 grams of whey just 30 minutes before workout. Again take 40 grams of whey just after you have finished your workout. Kindly remember gaining weight is a time -taking process. So do not expect any result within fortnight.

If the stools come first and then the splash of blood as a jet, then there is possibility of piles (hemorrhoids). Get yourself examined and do as advised by the surgeon.

Your weight is controlled by 4 major factors (1) refined sugar consumption (2) exercise and hydration (3) posture and sitting (4) how many times do you indulge yourself - alcohol, binge eating at parties, overeating etc. Step 01: refined sugar 1. Avoid all snacks and commercial products with sugar in them - biscuits, cakes, bournvita, horlicks, coke, pepsi, energy drinks, sweetened yogurt etc. 2. Cut down on your daily intake of tea/coffee and maintain it at 3-4 cups a day. 3. Try to add little sugar to any beverage (coffee, tea, milk, lemon water etc.) that you have and ideally you should refrain from adding any sugar altogether. Step 02: get exercise and proper hydration 1. Try to work out for 20 minutes each day. You do not necessarily have to go to the gym. You can incorporate some pretty powerful exercises in your daily routine like - squats, skipping, surya namaskar and core exercises. 2. Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday but remember that tea/coffee are not substitutes for pure water. Step 03: improve posture and sitting habits if you have a sitting job then ensure that you do not sit for more than 30 minutes at one stretch. Get up and move a little after every 30 minutes. Step 04: stop indulging and eat more of raw natural stuff 1. No more than 60 ml of hard liqour or 2 glasses of beer per day. 2. Try to eliminate the urge to overeat but if you do overeat try to limit the incidents to two times per week. 3. Eat 4 servings of fruits per day. 4. Each of your meal should contain 50% of raw vegetables. Once you incorporate the above points in your routine you will see a dramatic difference in your weight, physical shape and energy levels. You will find that there are a lot of companies out there that are trying to sell expensive products to naive consumers in the name of weight loss. These products may not necessarily be good for you. Losing and maintaining weight is something which is totally in your hands, it is easy and it is free of cost if you follow the above mentioned points.

Hi, according to your height your weight is too high. You should go for brisk walk in the morning. Go for swimming, gardening, jogging, skipping and cycling etc. Do regular exercise atleast 20 minutes daily. Take lukewarm water with lemon in the morning. Take salad before meals. Drink more water in a day. Don't take rice at night and don't skip breakfast. Avoid junk food and oily food. Take frequent meals instead of 3 big meals.

Kid aged 3.4 years, weight 11.3 kgs. Regular cold issues and snoring at night. Possible Adenoids and Tonsils enlargement. Currently on Momeflo spray. Is Adenoids removal necessary in this case if enlargement doesn't reduces by Momeflo. Kid breathes mostly from mouth and currently diagnosed with ear infection. Does Tonsils needs to be removed also if they are enlarged or will Adenoids removal will help in clearing blocked nasal passages.

Hi removal of adenoids should definitely help. But you should at least try once more with proper course of antibiotics and decongestants before going for surgery as your baby is underweight should increase his/her nutrition too.

Hello doctor! It's been couple of years I got in depression and undergone doctor and after 6 months of medication and treatment I got fine and doctor told me that I am absolutely fine and stop the medicines as there is no need. And yeah I am absolutely fine but I got addicted to medicine maybe. I gradually reduced it from 2 to 1/4th dose daily but I am unable to completely stop it. If I don't take it, I feel vomit, irritation in head, feel so low that I can't even walk, difficult to recall things in my mind, memory issue and don't feel good too. What should I do. My husband is also upset with this thing and saying me to stop it as it will lead to bad side effects in future while pregnancy ,liver etc. Please help me by telling what's the problem, is this the addiction symptoms or what? .And also let me know the side effects of these type of medicines for myself and for future pregnancy and on baby too?

Dear Ms. lybrate-user, I went through your query in detail and can understand what you must be going through. It's definitely very frustrating when we are not able to quit any medicine even after we feel that we are fine. You haven't mentioned the name of the medicines that you are taking and this makes it explaining exactly what you are going through a bit difficult. For depression, most doctors use a combination of an anti depressant and a benzodiazepine sedative. The right course of action is to taper and stop benzodiazepine after a few weeks and continue the anti depressants for few months. Benzodiazepines can be addictive. If they are not tapered and stopped in few weeks, there are chances that we become dependent on that and develop withdrawal symptoms when we stop it. This is the most probable cause in your case. The other scenario where it is the antidepressant which you are still taking means that you haven't completely recovered from depression/anxiety and will need further treatment depending on actual clinical condition. Benzodiazepines definitely cause adverse effects in pregnancy and we try to avoid it completely in pregnant patients. The best way forward will be to seek a psychiatric consultation and start treatment in order to quit the medicines. A substitute could be started and tapered off gradually. Hi take medicine rite-hite (sbl) 4tabs to be chewed twice a day, 1/2 an hour before meals. Do pranayam, suryanamaskar daily. Do swimming and stretching exercises daily. Do this regularly as you have a better chance of growth till 25 years of age.

Full sleeved light colored cotton clothes are best for a sunny day. They help reflect light. Tanning devices are cancerous, it's best to totally stay away from them. The us fda has approved the ban on tanning devices due to the increased incidence of melanoma cancer. Its better to stay away from tanning devices in general.

Drink 3-4 litres of water daily, it will help in long run. If required take one tab meftal spas after eating something and 1 tab pan 40 empty stomach daily for 15 days. You are welocme for further queries. If needed get ultrasound of whole abdomen done and come back with report.

Hye, Thanks for the query. Work stress is the most common reason for poor eating habits. It is important to know that just eating two heavy meals a day will not fulfill your nutrient needs. Most often we skip meals especially when at work or in college. We start our day on empty stomach but our work or stress or activity is never reduced. This causes weakness and lack of energy levels. Food is our source of energy and if you don't eat well as per your needs you are going to get deficient in many nutrients. So, start by eating the right foods at the right time. Eat meals at frequent intervals. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits in your meals. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Sleep well.    Exercise at least thrice a week.
