My 4-years old child is very aggressive. He is always breaking something here and there. We are fed up of his behavior. He is excessively active and adamant. How do we teach him manners?

General Physician,
He may be hyperactive child and he needs special care by trained people. You can also hope that as he is only 4 years old he will become normal as he grows up.

Start giving him cereal based soup in milk, curd paneer. Gradually increase the quantity. If he does not accept it change it. Try that he eat, drink himself.

My nephew 7 year old facing nosebleeds from last 3 years. Consulted 2 3 doctor but they say it happens due to weak vain of nostril. Please suggest me what should we do.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Kolkata
Hello lybrate-user if nosebleeds occur from 3 years a detailed work up us important. Most common cause of nosebleeds in children is trauma due to nose picking. Investigations are needed to rule out systemic causes and local pathology. Investigation: *cbc, platelet, pt, aptt, pcv, lft, peripheral smear *xray nose and pns (omv) apply an antibiotic ointment inside the nose two times a day. Nose drops will also be needed. During nose bleeding pinch the nose with the thumb and forefinger and make child breathe through mouth.

My baby is born on 1 jan 2015. We got the pentavalent vaccination first dose done on 18th Feb. Can we have the second dose of this vaccine on 11th March or 1st April, or it has to be between 18th to 20th March only. Please advise as my wife is not in town in between.

MBBS DCH
Pediatrician, Gandhinagar
Minimum 28 days interval should be there between two doses. You can delay vaccine upto 2 months but don't give before 28 days.

Hello. .my nephew is 40 days old and he is often crying badly due to etching on anus caused by pinworm.. Suggest some medicine for him. I repeat he is only 40 days old.

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Pediatric Gastroenterology
Pediatrician, Delhi
It is rather unusual for such tiny infants to get pin worms. It will be better if the child is reviewed first in the clinic as the cause of itching could be something else. Only then any medication can be given to such babies.

How to Dry and Comb Your Baby's Hair?

How to Dry and Comb Your Baby's Hair?

How to Dry Baby's Hair?

Baby towels often have a hood attached to it that can be used to gently blot your baby's hair. Do not rub as the baby's hairs are fine and very delicate and vulnerable to damage. Also, never try to blow-dry a baby's hair, as babies' skin is very much sensitive than an adult's skin and can be very easily burnt. Their hair also dries very fast on its own.

How to Comb Baby's Hair?

Comb your baby's hair with a soft-bristle brush or a tooth brush that won't snag on tangles or pull your baby's hair. Avoid headbands or ponytails, as they pull your baby's hair back too tight, which can damage hair.

Cradle Cap-Should I worry?

Cradle cap refers to the fleshy, red flakes on the scalp of baby. This is not harmful but some may be bothered by it.  Before a bath, massage  a little bit of coconut oil  into your baby's scalp to loosen the dry skin. Gently rub the oil into your baby's scalp with a ultra soft brush or wash cloth to release the flakes. Always wash your baby's hair with a gentle baby shampoo. Cradle cap should get better on its own. If it sticks around or spreads to the face of baby, or neck or other parts of the body, you should see your doctor.

What Oil should I Apply on My Baby's Hair?

Many new parents try to apply baby oil in the newborns scalp under the impression that it will lead to hair growth. This is a biggest misconception. Baby oil actually causes dryness of the scalp and clogs the pores of the head. Often the cause of cradle cap in babies is the usage of the baby oil. For healthy hair growth it would suffice coconut oil is applied onto your infant's hair and scalp.

When should I Plan the First Haircut?

There is no particular set time for a first haircut as it will not harm hair growth of the baby. Whenever you feel your child needs a trim, you should go ahead and get it done.

Why my Baby has Bald Spots? What Should I Do?

Sometimes babies have bald spots on their head because children lie in the supine position most of the time. Encourage the "tummy time" when your baby is awake, to allow their head to round out and prevent bald patches.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a specilized dermatologist and ask a free question.

Do prevent a sore throat infection, a sore throat (pharyngitis) is normally a symptom of a bacterial or viral infection, such as the common cold. In around a third of cases, no cause for the sore throat can be found. If you have a sore throat, you may also have: swollen tonsils (tonsillitis) fever enlarged and tender glands in your neck discomfort when swallowing I am a general physician who will prescribe you an appropriate treatment plan for your case, do reply back for medications. Being also a general physician, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary tips taking into account patient preferences.

Is it fine to introduce liquid diet to 3 months baby as breastfeeding is insufficient for my baby's need?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Hi, exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for 6 months, it increases immunity of child and provides all nutrients. If not able to give breastfeed then formula ffed like nan 1, lactogen 1 can be given. But you should try to feed child as much as possible because this will increase your milk production. Wishing your baby a good health.

My age is 38. I was married late. We have a girl child who is now 6 years old. My husband wants to go for the second child. Some people say that children born in late ages are always by surgery. Is this true?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS, FISPN & FISPN - Pediatric Nephrology

don't stress too much on DHA these are marketing gimmick for food supplements, just don't restrict mother from having any kind of food. she is currently in very labile mind. support her as much as you can. so that she can concentrate on breastfeeding. exclusively breastfed babies usually have more IQ ,
