Am wearing normal power glasses I mean in right side am having low power. Am wearing glasses for that. Doc advised me to put 1year throughly. Want I want to do. Because I do not like to wear full glasses. And its not suitable for me also. Whats your suggestion? Should I wear glasses fully? Or what are the Foods should I take regularly? If im not wearing the glasses. Will it tends to increase the eye power? please I want answer.

Hello. Let me enumerate the diet necessary for healthy eyes. (1) green leafy vegetables including spinach, sprouts, cabbage, beetroot. (2) fruits-blue-berries, black-berries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, grapes, pineapple, pomegranate, grapes, guava. (3) dry-fruits: almonds, walnuts, apricots, dates. (4) cereals: oats, barley, millets. (5) drink a cup of green tea daily. (6) drink a glass of milk daily. Comint o your other question, you should wear glasses regularly if the eye specialist has advised you to to do so. Though, it is not compulsory to keep them on for 24 hours, you should use them while watching television, driving, etc, when at rest, you could remove them. Not using the glasses would tend to spoil the quality of your vision. Subsequently, a change in the refractive power of the eyes would tend to cause further stress on your eyes. Hence, all said and done, wear your glasses judiciously. Eat healthy, avoid addictions and stay in touch with your eye specilist regularly. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care-regards.

When I'm using the computer after 30 minutes my eyes have to burning. What is doing me.

The solution for this problem is its reduced usage and while using computor use in proper light. There is nothing more effective than controlling usage to reduce and negate the effects. You can also reduce the intensity of the computor screen by attaching a filter or by getting an eye-friendly screen. Above all, one must try to reduce the amount of computor usage or take frequent breaks. Homoeopathic medicine CINELUBE EYE DROPS ( HAPDCO) Pour 2 drops 3 times daily.

There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 20 years so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

Up to - 3D number of contact lens is same as power of eye glasses but first time you will have to learn from ophthmologist how to insert & take out contact lens from eyes & you will also have to learn how to keep in solution & cleaning of hand before touching contact lens, usually one should not use contact lens for more than 5-6 hours continuously,

It may be due to inflammation called blepharochaliasis. Can be sure only after seeing n examining. And it is not very common esp in young males. You may try hot fomentation and anti inflammatory drugs.

My eyes have swollen n I don't know why is it so? I always wear my spectacle bt I don't know why they have swollen. Infact m sleeping for at least 7 hrs at night. Plss suggest me.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Swelling of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1)Allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2)Infectious conjunctivitis : this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3)Foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles(more common with people working in the iron industry) The solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist AT THE CLINIC. (4)Raised intraocular pressure: This is a condition known as glaucoma. it is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral(occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5)Inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as "uveitis". It is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. FROM THE SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED BY YOU, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care, regards-Dr. Chaitanya.

Hello, recent times I am feeling someone holding me at night while sleeping, I was unable to open my eyes and can't do anything.

MBBS, MD Psychiatry, DNB Psychiatry

Lybrate-user. It is practically impossible to be aware of someone holding you in your sleep at night. If you are aware that itself suggests that you are not into a deep relaxing sleep. Another possibility could be a night mare which occur during rem (awake) sleep. If that is occurring every night, please go for a sleep study to rule out any rem/ nrem sleep disorders.

Hi. Do you have near-sightedness or myopia? Include the following for getting better vision: Vitamins A, C, E, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic and onions. Blueberries, grapes as they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. DHA is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel. Exercises for eyes: Warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Focus. Hold a pen at arm's length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it's about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 10 times in all. Massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. Take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing first and reducing the power of your eyes. Take Physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance.

Macular Degeneration - All You Want to Know About

Even something as small as an eyeball, has multiple parts within it. The retina at the back of the eyeball is responsible for the clarity of vision. The central area of the retina is known as the macula. Macular degeneration is the deterioration of this part of the retina. Macular degeneration is age related and is considered as an incurable condition. People suffering from macular degeneration experience blurred vision, black spots and may eventually lose central vision while retaining peripheral vision.

There are two types of macular degeneration; wet and dry. The dry form of this disease is more common than its wet form. Of these, the latter causes more serious vision loss. Dry macular degeneration leads to white or yellow deposits on the retina leading to further degeneration. In the wet form of this disease, blood vessels beneath the retina start growing towards the macula and may pull it away from the base when they break or leak fluid.

There are three stages of age related macular degeneration (AMD):

  1. Early AMD: This is diagnosed by the presence of deposits on the retina. In most cases, ether is no vision loss at this stage but regular check-ups are essential.
  2. Intermediate AMD: A comprehensive eye exam will show the presence of larger deposits or pigment changes in the retina. At this stage, slight vision loss may be experienced.
  3. Late AMD: People suffering from late AMD have noticeable vision loss. Though this disease is linked to aging, the exact triggers for macular degeneration are unknown. It is understood to be a combination of hereditary and environmental factors. The presence of certain genes and their variants has been associated with a number of cases of this disease. Studies also show that caucasians are at the highest risk of suffering from this disease. Depriving cells in the retina of oxygen can also increase a person's risk of contracting this disease. Other risk factors for this disease are obesity, smoking, high blood pressure and a light eye colour. The side effects of certain drugs can also induce this condition.

Macular degeneration is considered to be incurable, but certain forms of treatment can improve vision and slow down the rate of deterioration. Treatment prescribed by a doctor depends on stage of the disease and whether it is wet or dry. Studies suggest that a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids can prevent AMD and lower the risk of its progression.

Dear doctor, whenever I eat citrus fruit and garlic I get itching on my eye with tears and I sneeze many times. Why it is happening, pls help.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello. From the symptoms described by you, it seems to be due to allergy. Allergic responses to certain foods including garlic and citric acid are common. You should KNOW YOUR EYE ALLERGY first. •There are various EYE ALLERGIES TRIGGERS: A person can be allergic to: Pollen from grasses, weeds, and trees. These are the most common kinds of eye allergies and are called SEASONAL ALLERGIC CONJUNCTIVITIS. •Dust, pet dander, and other indoor allergens. These eye allergies last year-round and are called CHRONIC (PERENNIAL) CONJUNCTIVITIS. •Makeup, perfume, or other chemicals can trigger eye allergies called CONTACT CONJUNCTIVITIS. •An allergy to contact lenses, called GIANT PAPILLARY CONJUNCTIVITIS, makes eyes sensitive and red. Just like any other allergic reaction, they are caused by a MISFIRING OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, the body's natural defense mechanism. It releases HISTAMINE, a chemical that causes swelling and inflammation. Symptoms to Watch For •Red, irritated eyes •Itchiness •Tearing or runny eyes •Swollen eyelids •Soreness, burning, or pain •Sensitivity to light Usually you’ll also have other allergy symptoms, such as a stuffy, runny nose and sneezing. DON'T TAKE YOUR EYES FOR GRANTED! Protect your sight with these six tips: 1. Eat for Good Vision 2. Quit Smoking 3. Wear Sunglasses / helmets to shield your eyes from dust, sunlight, pollution 4. Wash your eyes 3-4 times a day 5. Look Away From the Computer Screen at regular intervals 6. Avoid rubbing your eyes with fingers/ cloth/ shirt/ dupatta You could use a lubricant eye drop along with anantihistaminic eye drop. Both could be used 4 to 5 times in a day. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello 1. Retinitis pigmentosa is a progressive disease 2. Speed of progression varies from person to person. I have seen patients going bling at young age of 30 years and I have seen patients having good vision even at age of 50 yrs. So, you can go for 6 months perimetry test and that will guide you the rate of progression.
