The amount of sleep a child takes after birth varies from child to child. It is not important what is the amount of sleep that the child is taking. He is sleeping at night or is active at night it doesn't matter. If child is gaining good amount of weight is playful is taking feeds properly and after feeds sleeps adequately need to worry. If the weight gain is 15 to 20 grams per day the amount of urine passage per day is 6 to 7 times no need to worry. Also this variation in sleep (that is if a child sleeps more in day and his Activa playfull at night) persist for 1 to 2 years of age. Kindly discuss with your pediatrician the problems of your child for better understanding. Duration of breastfeeding is not important demand feeding should be given in the baby feels hungry she should be breastfed.

My baby boy is 2.7 years old but not speaking as other babies in his age group. He talks in his own language and communicate by sign/signals. He also does not chew food and having difficulty to sallow it, I need to give him semi solid food or need to blend it, otherwise he will vomit it. I consulted my baby's pediatrician (and few more doctors) and he said its normal and asked to wait till 5 years. Please suggest me the solution for the both. For speech, should I consult a speech therapist?

Pediatrician, Pune
if he can hear well , speech will develop in due course of time , try to interact with the child as much as possible along with playful activity , can give him regular food made at home for everybody , no need to give semisolid food , though initially you may have some difficulty , let the child feed himself , don't try to spoonfeed yourself , he will enjoy the food as play and finally put it in his mouth by himself

Yes rotavirus vaccine is to prevent rotaviral infection which cause diarrhoea in infants which is preventable one. Pcv is pneumococcal vaccine which is given to Prevent some of the known strains of virus which cause pneumonia in children. Both the vaccines are optional vaccine according to national immunization schedule but indian academy of pediatrics recommend both of these vaccine to the children.

Hello, I need to know the fever pattern like how frequent is fever. How is he in interfebrile period, playful with normal appetite or cranky or listless. Fevers lasting 4, 2 weeks or more with no signs of infection on routine lab tests r usually suggestive of systemic. Inflammation.

Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, I would say that I am not much concern about the loose stool and vomitings (milk) much. But having said that the baby is 6 months old, I would rather ask you to start weaning him. Some other food should also be started apart from milk.

My son is 7 years old and studying in 2nd class his problem is while studying he can not make the words correctly and speak and write the letters of words differently. Dear, your son is just 7 and he is supposed to be active. The doctors should be able to distinguish between active and hyper active. Most children at this age are extremely playful. That is their trait. Please don't try to change it just because you want to him to study. Please understand, training is the only alternative which can make your child good at studies. Patiently attend him. He will listen to you if you play with him. Reward him suitably for every good deed done. Make him do things lovingly. You and your wife need to take pain to train your child. I am sure he will be a bright child. If you go to a psychologist or psychiatrist they will say adhd and prescribe medicines. That could be wrong. Please, please train him. You can only do that. Be patient. If you want more of my help in this regard, please post a private question to me. Take care.

Cheek rashes may e associated with staph infection. Thus nail rubbing increases chances of infection. Better to use calamine lotion preparation if noinfection and wash face two three times with dettol or lifebouy soap. It will help to heal.
