I am suffering from back pain. I am also suffering from knee joint pain. Ankles of my both feet are also paining too much. Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. This will relieve your problem. Consult after 10 days.

Core strengthening exercises- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day.

Hi I am not sure but you have deficiency of calcium and vitamin. Go for test starts walking .and daily exercise along with glucose water take care.

Hi, actually the question is for help/medical advice for my wife who is now completing 50 yrs and is under phase of stoppage of menstrual cycle (i think it is called menopause) and is now having some problems of joint pains particularly in knees and also swelling in legs particularly on upper portion of both feets. Can you please advice tests and medical treatment she should excercise. Weight increase is the normal part of this phase? please advice and reply asap.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. Yes if she is around 50 years then from an orthopedic point of view you need to get her: 1) serum calcium and vitamin d levels 2) dexa scan to estimate bone density 3) swelling is not usually an orthopaedic issue unless there is a history of any injury which has led to it but thyroid profile is important to rule out as hypothyroidism can lead to swelling there are other tests to see what can be the cause of swelling but that is best advised by a general physician after clinical examination. Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang asana? lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core strengthening exercises- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

My mother aged 69 years old, c/o had sudden onset of pain in the Lt Leg in between groin while getting up in the morning followed by she could not able to get up normally and walk normally. Shown to ortho doctor and taken xray hip but everything is normal but he said it may be ligament tear or may be sprain, She is old case of osteoarthritis. With a pain she is doing her normal household activities but pain remains same. She has difficulty and pain while sitting, getting up from the chair and when she gets up from the bed. She suffering from one month. We applied siddha oil and all pain relief applications and orally she takes all the painkillers, I am totally worried What may be the cause and the treatment.

Your mother is having pain in the groin region. This pain is related to her bones. I advise you to give her proper balanced vegetarian diet. Take fruits and vegetables in daily diet. Take 8 to 10 glasses of water daily. Avoid garlic and red chilly at home. Avoid non veg and eggs. I advise you to get her vitamin d, serum calcium levels done and consult good orthopaedic doctor. I suspect, she is suffering from osteoporosis.

Requires detailed examination and investigation. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Get your blood test done. Any deficiency like that of vitamin b12 or vitamin d can cause pain in joints, especially at your age.

I have muscular pain on my sole and muscles above the ankles early morning everyday for past 5 years as soon as take a walk it disappears. Is it nerve related. Timing morning 5 am thus forcing me to get up.

Although there can be many causes for heel pain like spurs, fascial inflammation, infection, trauma etc but normally plantar fascitis is the most common cause especially if there is no history of any injury or any s/s of inflammation or infection like swelling, skin redness etc. This kind of pain is usually due to inflammation of your heel fascia. It is chronic pain which get aggravated especially when you walk more and is better with rest. Treatment modalities are aimed at relieving inflammation of the fascia, like ice packs, physical therapy, footwear modification and anti-inflammatory therapy. Torn Meniscus - Symptoms And Treatment!

Your knee is guarded and cushioned by a cartilage known as meniscus. A meniscus tear, therefore, is an extremely painful and discomforting situation. It occurs very frequently and has emerged as one of the most commonly occurring cartilage injuries. What makes a meniscus tear an extremely common phenomenon is the way it can tear that is all it takes is a twist of the knee for it to happen.

People involved in sports mostly face the brunt of this form of injury. The risk of getting meniscus torn increases with age and tends to occur at the slightest change of direction of movement. 

Symptoms 
Some of the symptoms of a torn meniscus are:

  1. Pain and inflammation: It goes without saying that an internal injury of the cartilage or tearing away of it would inevitably result in extreme pain and inflammation near the knee.
  2. Immobility: The extreme pain and inflammation, which follows will inevitably make it difficult to move. Since the pain occurs in the joint, you will have difficulty in walking and any forceful movement will only aggravate the pain.
  3. Locking of the knee: Locking of the knee refers to a situation when you are unable to move your knee. This occurs most commonly after you have your meniscus torn.

Treatment
Notwithstanding its frequency of occurrence, there are several ways, by which you can treat a torn meniscus. Some of the ways are:

  1. Apply ice: In order to get some relief, applying ice is a suitable option. If you apply ice every day for some time, it wonders in reducing swelling and the consequent pain.
  2. Use a bandage: In order to control the swelling, it is important that you cover your knee with an elastic bandage.
  3. Change the posture: It is important that you keep the affected knee in an elevated plane, in order to ensure an efficient blood supply and a consequent relief from pain.

Some Medical Treatments
There are many things to consider when deciding how to treat your torn meniscus, including the extent and location of the tear, your pain level, your age and activity level, your doctor's preference, and when the injury occurred. Your medical treatment choices are:

  1. Nonsurgical treatment with compression, elevation, and physical therapy. This may include wearing a temporary shoulder brace.
  2. Surgical repair to sew the tear together.
  3. Partial meniscectomy, which is surgery to remove the torn section.
  4. Total meniscectomy, which is surgery to remove the entire meniscus. This is generally avoided, because this option increases the risk for osteoarthritis in the shoulder.
  5. Whenever possible, meniscus surgery is done using arthroscopy, rather than through a large cut in the shoulder.
