I am 28 years male had a fall 6 months ago and sustained acl injury what should I do.
There are two ways to treat ACL injury. Treatment depends upon severity of injury and resultant laxity. Physiotherapy is done for muscle strengthening and if there is improvement to such an extent that patient doesn't feel any instability then well. if patient doesn't feel he had stable knee, treatment then becomes Arthroscopic reconstruction of ACL. there is no way to repair ACL.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. If your pain is only a localized one, and since 2 days, you can start with - ice packs at painful site to reduce muscle spasm - gentle anti inflammatory medication like tab etoshine, tab diclofenac etc which suits your body - a muscle relaxant can be added to provide relaxation to muscle spasm - analgesic spray like dynapar qps can be used for local application after fomentation 3-4 times in a day - rest for 4-5 days, use hard mattress, avoid lifting heavy weight and bending forwards acutely we will initiate your physical therapy programme once your pain subsides. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Dear, low back pain are often referred for physical therapy for four weeks as an initial conservative (nonsurgical) treatment option before considering other more aggressive treatments, including back surgery. The goals of physical therapy are to decrease back pain, increase function, and teach the patient a maintenance program to prevent future back problems. Common forms of physical therapy include: 1.Passive physical therapy (modalities), which includes things done to the patient, such as heat application, ice packs and electrical stimulation. For example, a heating pad may be applied to warm up the muscles prior to doing exercising and stretching, and an ice pack may be used afterward to sooth the muscles and soft tissues. OSee Physical Therapy: Passive PT (Modalities) for Back Pain 2.Active physical therapy, which focuses on specific exercises and stretching. For most low back pain treatments, active exercise is the focus of the physical therapy program. This article focuses on active physical therapy and exercise as a means to help recover from back problems and prevent or minimize future flare-ups of low back pain Low back pain has lasted between two and six weeks, or if there are frequent recurrences of low back pain, physical therapy is often recommended. Some spine specialists consider physical therapy sooner, particularly if the pain is severe. •Read more: Exercise and Back Pain In general, the goals of physical therapy are to decrease pain, increase function, and provide education on a maintenance program to prevent further recurrences. A physical therapy program for back pain usually has two components: 1.Passive physical therapy to help reduce the patient's pain to a more manageable level 2.Active exercises Passive Physical Therapy - Modalities Acutely, the physical therapist may focus on decreasing pain with passive physical therapy (modalities). These therapies are considered passive because they are done to the patient. Examples of modalities include: •Heat/ice packs •TENS units •Iontophoresis •Ultrasound.

Requires detailed investigation and examination Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomentation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure that patient is not allergic to any of the medicines that he/she is going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5 days, inform.

I Am suffering from back pain for last month onwards, please suggest to rectify the problem.

I Am suffering from back pain for last month onwards, please suggest to rectify the problem.
Back pain is an all-too-familiar problem that can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain that leaves you incapacitated. It can come on suddenly—from an accident, a fall, or lifting something heavy—or it can develop slowly, perhaps as the result of age-related changes to the spine. One of the best things you can do to prevent back pain is to exercise regularly and keep your back muscles strong. Eating a healthy diet also is important. For one thing, eating to maintain a healthy weight—or to lose weight, if you are overweight—helps you avoid putting unnecessary and injury-causing stress and strain on your back. To keep your spine strong, as with all bones, you need to get enough calcium and vitamin D every day. I would suggest you to do video consultation with us for further evaluation and management:

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details given, but the information is too general. It is difficult to know what is the problem as only pain in rib cage is mentioned. Which part, what is the intensity, frequency, whether there is any cough, or problem with breathing etc, Plus there is no mention of blood glucose levels, HbA1c%, medication for diabetes and any other related problems. Unless these things are known it is difficult to suggest any medication. Further in this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines, no prescriptions are allowed. She may need in some pain killers and there may be a need for some investigations to find out the cause. Thanks.

Hi = relax and stay positive. = increase fluid intake. = eat seasonal fruits for natural vitamins = do streching of hamstring, quadriceps, and calf muscles. = if you are overweight, reduce weight by cycling or swimming as it gives low impact on joints. = do check your calcium and vit. D = apply moist heat pad to affected joint and muscles. If still you dont get relief consult physiotherapist as there are various causes for leg/ joint pain and some test may be required for further investigation. Best wishes.
