Hello Mr. lybrate-user, you need to follow up your diabetes issues with a diabetologist as you need long term follow up. As far as the kidneys are concerned, kidney function tests are useful to assess the status of your kidneys.

I have gone through left kidney surgery but after 6 month of surgery my right kidney pain sometime, What can i do?

DNB (Radiodiagnosis), DMRD, MBBS
Radiologist, Bangalore
Hi, thanks for writing in to us. It is important to know why you underwent surgery on your left kidney 6 months back. If there was a stone and should you have a tendency for urinary stone formation then please get back to the urologist and also get investigated for any stones in your right kidney. You might require an ultrasound scan abdomen and pelvis or a ct scan plain to see any kidney stones. If your surgery was done for any kidney infection then also the pain might be evaluated with an ultrasound scan to look for any urinary obstruction. For this also it is better to consult the urologist and they might ask you to get urine test done for infection. Please drink adequate amount of water and visit washroom regularly. Regards,

The psa value of 51 is quite high. He needs a dedicated ultrasound of the prostate to rule out cancer. He should also be shown to a urologist or uro oncosurgeon to get a digital rectal examination and usg guided multi quadrant biopsy. Sorry to scare you, but usually bph doesn't have such high values, so it is better to evaluate thoroughly.

Peritoneal Dialysis - Procedure to be Followed!

Peritoneal Dialysis - Procedure to be Followed!

No Blood, No needle, No visit to hospital, you can do yourself at home with water. A thin layer of transparent screen like structure hangs in front of the abdominal muscles known as peritoneum. This peritoneum protects the abdominal structures and the muscle. This can also be used for performing dialysis which is carried out when the functioning of kidney gets affected. In peritoneal dialysis a thin and soft catheter is placed in the person’s belly one week before performing the procedure.

The catheter has numerous holes in order to facilitate the transformation of fluids. Dialysis solution is prepared in a bag and the tubing is connected to the catheter placed in the abdomen thereby, the fluids absorb the waste materials from the body. The fluid is allowed to stay in your body for a particular period of time which is commonly referred as dwell time and later the fluid is drained out.

There are two types of peritoneal dialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and automated peritoneal dialysis. This is the simple form of dialysis which anybody can perform after a short training period and this can be done anywhere in clean private place like hotels, home and even in office.

Procedure followed during Peritoneal Dialysis
All you need to perform a peritoneal dialysis is catheter and transfer set, cycler, dialysis solution and safety precautions materials to stay away from getting infections.
Step 1 - Perform a sterile aseptic technique. Wear a glove and surgical mask before connecting the catheters and transfer set. Clamp the tubing and remove the catheter once the dialysis solution enters your abdomen
Step 2 - Allow the solution to remain in your abdomen for a particular period of dwell time
Step 3 - Drain the fluid from the abdominal cavity into the drain bag. You may feel a mild tugging sensation when adequate amount of fluid is drained.
Step 4 - After drain close or clamp the transfer set and later flush a fresh solution directly to drain bag so as to remove the air from the tubing.
Step 5 - Close your drain bag and open your transfer set and refill your belly with fresh solution.

Make sure you perform without giving way for infection and excess fluid and dextrose absorption. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

My brother has kidney stones nearly 8 mm. He is on treatment but not on benefit what to take please tell me.
Stones treatment depends on the types and size of stone, most kidney stones won't require invasive procedures. You may be able to pass a small stone by: drinking water. Drinking as much as 2 to 3 quarts (1.9 to 2.8 liters) a day may help flush out your urinary system. Unless doctor tells you otherwise, drink enough fluid mostly water to produce clear or nearly clear urine. Passing a small stone can cause some discomfort. To relieve mild pain, according to your medical history I may prescribe pain relievers. I am a doctor and renal (kidney) registered dietitian who will also prescribe a customized diet plan and medications to help pass your kidney stone quickly and with less pain. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

A child passing urine so frequently is a case most probably of Urinary tract infection, which has increased propensity to affect females due to short distance between external urethral meatus & Urinary bladder (of 3.5 cm). This short distance makes them more vulnerable for urinary infections and it is advisable to consult a paediatrician at the earliest. It is NOT NORMAL.

Hydronephrosis per se doesn't need any dietary advice. If the urea level is high you will require low protein in diet as per your weight and dietary preferences.

Mr. Lybrate user, primarily the t/t for renal stones will be depend on the size, location& content of stone. Few stones are tough to get melted by its chemical structure, location also plays important role. When the stone is located in ureter[depending on iys size, lodged if, or in curve, or@stricture, then the complaints, suffering also will be more painful. But in homeopathy, you can opt the t/t when size is less, your present suffering is very lss a sper location, when its not risky.{in sever conditions,& few risky as per I mentioned above, some times you should nt wait with alternative medicines}&yes, taking homeo is very helpful for controlling the recurrence of stones again. T/t should be based on your symptoms, reports, chronicity. You will get dfntly better results. Take more water. Always make a habit of taking more liquids, water atleast 4-5 litres/day.
