Please understand that Cholesterol problem is a lifestyle disease. If you do not eat well, drink and smoke and do not exercise daily, then on stopping medication your levels will increase. Even with lifestyle measures 70-80% of people need medications for life for control in cholesterol. So first start lifestyle precautions like - daily 40 mins of brisk walking, diet consult for a healthy heart diet, quit smoking and drinking and if your are obese loose weight and if that does not completely control cholesterol then start with medications.

Back exercises. Many people go to physiotherapists with back pain. Here are two exercises that help to relieve pain and reduce stiffness in the back: •Dear, 1. Lie on your back with both of your legs straight. In this position, bring your left knee up close to your chest. Hold this position for 10 seconds. Return your leg to the straight position. Repeat with the right leg. •2. Stand up with your arms on your side. Bend to the left side while slowly sliding your left hand down your left leg. Come back up slowly and relax. Repeat with the right side of your body Dear, low back pain are often referred for physical therapy for four weeks as an initial conservative (nonsurgical) treatment option before considering other more aggressive treatments, including back surgery. The goals of physical therapy are to decrease back pain, increase function, and teach the patient a maintenance program to prevent future back problems. Common forms of physical therapy include: 1.Passive physical therapy (modalities), which includes things done to the patient, such as heat application, ice packs and electrical stimulation. For example, a heating pad may be applied to warm up the muscles prior to doing exercising and stretching, and an ice pack may be used afterward to sooth the muscles and soft tissues. OSee Physical Therapy: Passive PT (Modalities) for Back Pain 2.Active physical therapy, which focuses on specific exercises and stretching. For most low back pain treatments, active exercise is the focus of the physical therapy program. This article focuses on active physical therapy and exercise as a means to help recover from back problems and prevent or minimize future flare-ups of low back pain Low back pain has lasted between two and six weeks, or if there are frequent recurrences of low back pain, physical therapy is often recommended. Some spine specialists consider physical therapy sooner, particularly if the pain is severe. •Read more: Exercise and Back Pain In general, the goals of physical therapy are to decrease pain, increase function, and provide education on a maintenance program to prevent further recurrences. A physical therapy program for back pain usually has two components: 1.Passive physical therapy to help reduce the patient's pain to a more manageable level 2.Active exercises Passive Physical Therapy - Modalities Acutely, the physical therapist may focus on decreasing pain with passive physical therapy (modalities). I have been having palpitations for nearly 5-6 months. I did an echo, TMT, ECG and 24 hour holter monitor. All results were normal. However, echo showed trivial mitral regurgitation and trivial tricuspid regurgitation. Avg heart rate was 90bpm in the holter monitor result. I often get palpitations after eating lunch or dinner. I am also easily startled when a phone rings etc. Overall I've been having some anxiety issues for past 6 months. I feel tensed and on the edge for most part of the day. I had got married and moved countries and had to quit my job during this time. So I was at home for most part of the day without much to do. I also suffer from upper body pain - shoulder and front chest. Sometimes this in muscular pain and some other times I feel it's internal pain due to bloating or gas whenever I breathe. I also did a chest X Ray and it was normal. I am on supplements for vitamin D insufficiency. Please advise how to deal with these issues. Any follow up for regurgitation?

I would suggest try alternative - Non Medicinal therapies like Mindfulness, Meditation, Yoga etc. Many of the physical symptoms may be due to mind and life related issues. There are lot of free online courses on Happiness, Mindfulness etc and they are very helpful in settling the turbulence in our lives. Where medicine does not work, your mindpower may become the best medicine.

You should stop smoking as smoking is harmful not just for lungs but it also puts you at risk of heart attacks. Since you are experiencing chest tightness it could be due to acidity or heart related to rule that out you should consult a local MD medicine or cardiologist, they may ask you to get ECG, echo, TMT, chest X-Ray etc and then treat you based on the results.

Hypertension In Pregnancy And How To Avoid It?

Hypertension In Pregnancy And How To Avoid It?

Maintaining a healthy blood pressure level is important for everyone. However, in the case of a pregnant woman, high blood pressure can be an added risk to the health of the fetus. High blood pressure or hypertension is defined by a blood pressure reading that is higher than 140/90mmHg. This indicates how much pressure the blood exerts on the walls of the arteries every time the heart beats. There are three different types of hypertension a pregnant woman can suffer from. These include:

  1. Chronic hypertension: This refers to high blood pressure conditions that were existing prior to or in the early days of pregnancy.
  2. Gestational hypertension: Women who develop hypertension after the 20th week of pregnancy suffer from gestational hypertension.
  3. Pre-eclampsia: This is the most severe form of hypertension for a pregnant woman. It may be caused by either of the above types of hypertension and is characterized by the presence of proteins in the urine. It usually occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy.

Some women have a higher risk of developing hypertension when pregnant as compared to others. Some of the factors that could influence this are obesity, a family history of hypertension and being younger than 20 years old or older than 40. Women have a higher risk of suffering from hypertension during their first pregnancy or if they are pregnant with multiple fetuses.

If you suffer from hypertension when pregnant, your baby will not get enough oxygen and nutrients. This can slow the growth of the fetus or cause low birth weight. It can also cause placental abruption and premature delivery. In severe cases, preeclampsia can be fatal for the mother and the baby.

Reducing your risk of hypertension when you’re pregnant is easy. Here are a few tips.

  1. Eat Right: It is natural to crave certain foods when pregnant but you should make an effort to eat healthy. Get plenty of fruits and vegetables and ensure that you have a balanced diet. Avoid processed foods, fried foods, colas and food with a high salt content. It is also advisable to reduce your caffeine intake.
  2. Exercise Regularly: Exercise not only helps you manage your weight but also reduces the risk of hypertension. However, be careful about your exercise regimen. If you have lived a fairly sedentary lifestyle uptil your pregnancy, do not suddenly start anything strenuous. Low-intensity workouts like walking and cycling are ideal for pregnant women.
  3. Reduce StressIt is natural to be worried about being pregnant but this does not help you in any way. The more stress you take on, the higher your risk of hypertension. Hence, avoid stressful situations and try deep breathing exercises and yoga to keep you calm.
