Hi doctor Im having PCOD problem, and was using aldactone and glycomet along with Ovral L. For the last 4 months as per doctors advice I stopped all the medicines and for the last 2 months I'm not getting my periods. When I consulted the doctor she advised me to take PRIMOLUT N for 5 days twice a day and after getting the periods prescribed me to go on with Ovral L. After taking PRIMOLUT for 3 days, I feel giddiness and so tired. Please advise me can I stop taking PRIMOLUT in 3 days and wait to get the periods.

Sravani you should take at least 5days of primolut to get period. Please try to start other other progesterone tablets to get period if primolut doesn't suit you. If you stop after 3days only you won't get withdrawal bleed.

Hi , I'm 22 week pregnant woman at 21 st week I did my Sonography which results that I have low lying placenta having cervix length 2.9 cm. Doctor suggested me to take stitches immediately even they started weekly progesterone injection. So I am tensed really I go through cerlage or not. Kindly help me by giving suggestion.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi, low-lying placenta, or placenta praevia, is a complication of pregnancy where the placenta that feeds the growing baby is attached to the lower part of the womb near to or covering the cervix. Low-lying placenta may be picked up during a routine 20-week ultrasound scan appointment. In some cases, a placenta that is seen to be low-lying will move upwards later in pregnancy. Your care will vary depending on whether or not you've had any bleeding. You may be advised to avoid having sex for the rest of your pregnancy, particularly if you've had bleeding. If you remain free of complications, you're likely to be offered a planned caesarean after 38 weeks. If you have major placenta praevia, or have had bleeding, you may be admitted to hospital when you're 34 weeks pregnant. If you've had no bleeding, you'll probably be able to stay at home. ***************you can consult a gynaecologist for cross-checking************

My boyfriend and I had unprotected sexual intercourse the day after my last menstrual period ended. Is it possible to get pregnant after having sex so soon after my LMP?

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
Possibility though slim, but cannot be ruled out, so we suggest you wait patiently for your next periods, and only if you miss your due date you will have to do a urine pregnancy test to confirm for pregnancy.

These look like symptoms of peri Menopause. Please see a gynaecologist who will educate you about menopause and the needed lifestyle changes to be made and a nutritionist for regulating your diet according to the requirements of the body. You can go for counselling to learn how to manage stress and tension better without losing your mental and emotional equilibrium. What is a chance of getting pregnant if sperm will release outside the vagina during intercourse.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Yes it is 100% possible but will not happen always. Preejaculate contains enough sperms which is released without anyone's knowledge. That's why you should get i-pill asap if the act is already performed.

My periods are irregular and after consult with Dr. I am taking krimpson 35. please suggest what to do to get regular periods?

BHMS
Homeopath, Mumbai
First of all taking these tablets has its own side effects. I t is temporary solution since how long you r having irregular periods what is the reason for this has to be ruled out and now so much of work load stress and tension has direct effect on hormones. So it is neccesary to understand the root cause of it.

Pancreatic Transplantation

DM in Nephrology, MD in Internal Medicine, MBBS
Nephrologist, Ghaziabad
Pancreatic Transplantation

A pancreatic transplantation or pancreas transplantation refers to the surgical procedure, which involves replacing a dysfunctional pancreas with a healthy one.  The donor of the pancreas is usually a deceased person. Pancreas is an important organ of the body as it produces several important hormones, which play significant roles regulating in our body cycles. Pancreas transplantation is usually performed for the treatment of type 1 diabetes which is linked to the inability of the pancreas to produce the insulin hormone.

A pancreas transplant is considered as one of the potential cures for type 1 diabetes. However it is not considered to be a standard treatment due to complications, such as:

  1. Rejection of graft by the recipient body or similar complications
  2. The medications which are given to prevent the rejection can have serious side effects too
  3. Certain complications like blood clots or infections can occur following the procedure
  4. Failure to control the blood sugar levels and rejection of the graft or complete pancreatic failure are Common complications that occur after a pancreas transplant.

These are the primary reasons why pancreas transplant is often considered to be one of the last measures of treating diabetes. Nevertheless, there are certain conditions where a pancreas transplant is worth considering. Some of the conditions include diabetes which cannot be controlled with the usual treatment procedure, chronic poor blood sugar control, insulin reactions which turns chronic or a serious kidney disease.

Certain medications are also prescribed for anti rejection purposes. These medications need to be taken after the operation for the rest of your life to prevent rejection of the donor graft. These medications can have a few adverse side effects. Some of the side effects include hypertension, thinning of your bones, unwanted weight gain and a rise in your cholesterol levels. Swollen gums or acne are also observed in several cases.

Often a pancreas transplant is carried out along with a kidney transplant, especially if you have a serious kidney condition. It helps to provide a healthy kidney and a pancreas and also reduces a risk of kidney damage caused due to diabetes later in the future.
