I hope the doctor you are consulting is a gynecologist. If not, seek one and meet one. Generally there are many causes of scanty menses. Usually scanty menses indicates that the lining of the uterus which is shed at menses, is not well formed and hence the bleeding is slight. So the answer will lie in making the uterine lining more thicker which will result in heavier periods. Blood tests, hormone tests and sonography are needed to find the cause of the scanty menses. If the diseases are not found, it could be just a passing phase and may correct on its own when natural ovulation occurs in sequential manner. But this is just a simplistic answer. You are 23 and if married, you may also benefit from infertility treatments where the medicines prescribed cause the lining to be thick and hence better flow at menses.

See if hormonal imbalance is too much, first correction is necessary. Many times once it got corrected pregnancy happens spontaneously. Keep patience. After that meet the fertility expert to rule out the cause of infertility if any. If nothing serious then you can try for 5-6 month normally to achieve pregnancy.

Yes, there will be hormonal changes like irregular periods, weight gain and cramps as you said pain during menses etc hence don't get over dependent on OCP's as they are harmful, try other means of contraception.

Hi Doctor My wife is pregnant. Thanks a lot to God, she was quite scared about it. My wife had her last period starting from 6th March 2016 after that she had taken Rubella IGG vaccination on 23rd March 2016. She tested to be pregnant on 25th April 2016. Though doctor suggested that we should not connive within one month from taking vaccination [Rubella], we found out that mostly the pregnancy is due to an unprotected intercourse on 18th March 2016. We don’t know now what effect of the Rubella vaccination will incur on the baby. Kindly advise whether it is safe to have the baby in this circumstances. [Though our doctor said it is ok and there will be no consequences of the vaccination.] Our doctor also suggested initial Sono for her [my wife]. Here is the report: - SONOGRAPHY OF OBSTETRIC Real time ultrasound examination of the gravid uterus show presence of a single well defined intrauterine gestational sac. Foetal echoes and poles are seen. Foetal cardiac activity is seen. Yolk sac is seen. Good choriodecidual reaction is seen. There is no evidence of bleed. Internal os is closed. G. Sac measures 2.2 cm corresponds to 7 W 1 D. CRL measures 4 mm corresponds to 6 W 1 D. Evidence of few septation seen in G. Sac. Average is 6 W 1 D. EDD is 16.12. 2016 IMPRESSION: SINGLE LIVE INTRAUTERINE PREGNANCY OF 6 W 1 D. ADVICE: FOLLOW UP AFTER 10 DAYS. Kindly if possible let me know what above details means. We’ll see doctor shortly but before that I just want to have your opinion on this.

Pregnancy is to be avoided for 3 month after Rubella vaccination as studies have shown that there is higher chance of foetal abnormality. It is impossible to say with certainity that this baby will or will not have abnormality as some are functional and can not be diagnosed by Ultrasonography. Normally any medical advise is from statistical data and one can not have exact data for absolute similar picture i.e. Vaccination after 5 days of intercourse resulting into pregnancy. So only general advise can be given from first sentence mentioned in my reply and that is not to take chance of abnormality to terminate pregnancy, however one can always take chance otherwise.

Home Remedies for Leukorrhea (Vaginal Discharge)

Home Remedies for Leukorrhea (Vaginal Discharge)
Home remedies for leukorrhea (vaginal discharge)

Leukorrhea is a very common problem among women. It refers to a thin or thick, whitish or yellowish vaginal discharge that may occur in between menstruation cycles or during pregnancy and usually lasts from a few days to weeks.
In most cases, it is nothing to be alarmed about and is considered normal as long as it does not cause irritation, discomfort, odor and itching.
Leokorrhea, however, can also be caused by hormonal changes, particularly due to an increase in estrogen.
A vaginal infection or std, too, may cause leukorrhea, especially if the discharge is yellow or green and accompanied by foul odor.
Other factors that contribute to abnormal discharge are unhygienic conditions such as a tampon left too long in the vagina, and conditions like anemia and diabetes. At times, injury or trauma to the vagina can also trigger leukorrhea.
As already mentioned, leukorrhea in most cases is not a cause for concern. However, if you have a lot of discomfort, consult a doctor.
There are many over-the-counter as well as prescribed medicines to treat leukorrhea. You can also deal with this problem with the help of some simple home remedies.
If you are pregnant, consult your doctor before trying any home remedy for leukorrhea.

Hi lybrate-user, if urine pregnancy test is negative then their is less chance of having pregnancy. Please repeat test after 3 days for confirmation. Delayed period could be because of stress or hormonal imbalance.

Hi I'm 26, female and haven't eaten in a couple of days it seems like i've lost my appetite what can I do.
First of all, you should consult a doctor. If the report is ok then you need to eat more and more fruits and vegetables in the form of juices, salads, custards, can be eaten raw also because these will increase your appetite. Take a lemon, cut it into two equal halves and then put it on a tawa with the juicy side touching the tawa, slightly heat it and lick it. This will also increase your appetite.

Hello doctor, Whenever my partner and I have sex my periods date is keep on reducing mean consider if I have date on 26th after sex it will be on 22nd. Why is this? And also the leakage during menstrual cycle on 1st and 2nd day is kind of black clots.

Ectopic Pregnancy - Why It Can Be Dangerous?

DGO, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Chennai
Ectopic Pregnancy - Why It Can Be Dangerous?

Many women have concerns about an ectopic pregnancy and we shall be solving all doubts about this dangerous condition right here today. An ectopic pregnancy happens when a fertilised egg implants outside the uterus in a woman’s body. Ectopic, in fact, means ‘out of place’. The fertilised egg usually implants in the fallopian tubes whose actual work is to transport the ovum or egg from the ovaries to the uterus for fertilisation. This is why such pregnancies are also called ‘tubal pregnancies’. Sometimes the fertilised egg can also implant in the cervix or the ovaries of the hapless woman.

Normally pregnancies happen when a fertilised egg attaches itself to the uterine wall to grow and develop. Ectopic pregnancies are a serious condition and can cause internal bleeding and infection and even death of the expecting mother. That’s why knowing the symptoms is so important.

Common symptoms of ectopic pregnancy appear as the pregnancy matures. Initially the woman will have all the usual pregnancy-related symptoms like missing her period and breast tenderness, but soon the other alarming symptoms will start appearing like severe abdominal pain on one side, vaginal bleeding, severe cramps and nausea and vomiting, fainting spells and dizziness.

One should seek a doctor’s advice right away in this condition because ectopic pregnancy can be fatal. Why? Because as the fertilised egg is implanted in a part of a woman’s body which is not built to look after it, the embryo can burst in the fallopian tubes, cervix or wherever it has managed to implant itself. This mini-explosion inside the body is a leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths during the first trimester. This can lead to internal bleeding and infection, which is lethal.

Hence, the earlier an ectopic pregnancy is diagnosed and treated, the better. The only way to deal with an ectopic pregnancy is to abort it. The doctor can do this using either medicines or surgery.
The medicine ‘methotrexate’ can be used to end a tubal pregnancy. Surgery can also be used to remove the embryo.

In some cases, doctors may have to remove the fallopian tube with the implanted embryo. This has a number of repercussions. The woman can become infertile. Even if the fallopian tubes have been scarred during surgery, it becomes difficult for her to get pregnant again.

Ectopic pregnancies are also getting quite common due to a number of factors like an increase in sexually transmitted diseases which cause scarring of tubes and infertility treatments. If a woman is over 30 years of age, has a history of a pelvic inflammatory disease, a surgery in the pelvic area or has had an ectopic pregnancy before, she should be very careful indeed. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.
