I am Dr Viveka Kumar, Senior director Cath Lab, Max Hospital Saket. Today I am going to speak on heart failure which is an epidemic in Indian context because people take very late treatment for heart diseases after a heart attack, they take then consultations and opinion so they don't understand that early treatment of either heart attack or well disease or even congenital diseases would prevent heart failure. But if we look at the number of patients all across the globe, the treatment. Taken for heart disease in India is so slow and late and a lot of them they don't take treatment, so in stage and final common pathway of all heart diseases, heart failure and it has to be treated initially with medication. Later on there are lot of devices, we call it heart failure, pacemaker, Implantable cardioverter defibrillator and ultimately all these fails then the patient has to go for cardio Cardiac resynchronization therapy transplant and ultimately if all these fails then the patient has to go for Cardiac Transplant and artificial heart which is called the particular access devices. So these are the treatment options and because of the scarcity of the heart in a donation, people in society are not aware of this. So there are a lot of patients who do not get a heart in time and they don't survive. So I would say that the society has to be sensitized about heart failure epidemic and the various available treatment options. We fulfil that probably heart transplant and Edwards, this does not happen in our country. That's not true we at max are one of the largest volume implanters of the Edwards the heart failure, pacemaker and also the heart transplantation. So this all treatment options should be given to the patient but most important is the timely treatment for heart diseases.

Thank You.

Take diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin b12, iron, zinc and omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin), different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources) take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! cover your head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regularly massage head and hair with coconut oil, almond oil (depending upon your scalp type) 1 to 3 times a week. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you fit and young! medication: take homoeopathic medicines - schwabe's wiesbaden 200 & alfalfa tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Use schwabe's arnica shampoo and hair growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use bakson's arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Beside this, you can take one tablet of multivitamin folli hair once daily for 1 month.

Dear Lybrate user, Cut a fresh lemon into thick slices and chill it for about 30 minutes. Apply the slices on the acne area and black spotsfor about 10 minutes. Wash the area thoroughly with water. Repeat this process twice a day for one week to see results.

Hi, I am a 16 years old boy. Recently my acne problem has gone high, and they are creating dark marks all over my face. My family doctor has suggested me to use femcinol-a gel, but it's if really of no use. Can you suggest me anything that can reduce my dark acne marks and of course reduce the acne?

Acne is a common problem in teen. Almost everybody will get pimples during their teen years. First, don't try to self treat acne. Some popular nonprescription acne lotions, cleansers and other skin products can cause a serious reaction (rare), mostly it is normal to have acne in teenage. For pimples it's important to wash your face twice daily to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil from your skin's surface, avoid touching your face or propping your cheek or chin on your hands. Not only can you spread bacteria, you can also irritate the already inflamed facial skin. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring. A dietary therapy with the right medications for pimples can also help a lot. Kojic acid (a natural skin lightener derived from mushroom extract), arbutin (also called bearberry extract), and vitamin c (ascorbic acid) are great alternative ingredients to lighten scars left by acne. Don't use vitamin e on scars. You may have heard that applying vitamin e to a scar will help it heal faster. But according to a study, applying the nutrient directly onto a scar can actually hinder its healing. In the study, vitamin e either had no effect or made matters worse for 90% of the patients, and 33% who put vitamin e on the skin developed a contact dermatitis. Increasing the intake of omega-3 fatty acids through a diet significantly rich in fish and seafood results in lower rates of an inflammatory disease like acne. A low-glycemic-index diet also reduces acne risk. I being a both a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. Do reply back for private consultation.

For bleeding gums, go for scaling and polishing of teeth. For cavity, get your teeth x-rayed to determine the extent of decay. Depending on that, you can go for filling of cavities with tooth coloured cement with or without root canal treatment.

When I walk a longer then I feel too much pain over my back. So what should I do to get relief from that?

MS - Orthopaedics, MBBS

When I walk a longer then I feel too much pain over my back. So what should I do to get relief from that?
Hello lybrate user, back pain that is associated with day time sedentary jobs like computer professional s are associated with paraspinal muscle spasms. The best way to tackle this sort of pain is to do well spaced stretching exercises of the back, back extension exercises, using hot water bags to provide relief and avoiding stooping posture while sitting. Posture also plays a very important part in back pain, always maintain a straight posture while sitting. While getting up from the bed try to first go on your left or right side of the body and get up side ways. Avoid cruntches or sit-ups: they may increase the pressure on your back and may predispose to slip disc. Always maintain a healthy lifestyle in terms of regular brisk walking, meditation, eating healthy. P. S: try to avoid pain killers (analgesics) as much as possible as many are associated with side effects that you may not be aware of. Stay healthy. Stay happy god bless you.

I am 28.5 years old female my weight 45 and hight 5.3 Suffering from thyroid taking medicine from last 2 months i.e Thyronorm 50 mcg and eltroxin 25 mcg actually doctor ask me to have eltroxin 75 and c.thyrobless but I am not taking this. My weight is not gained don't know why? How to weight gain fast which food should I have or any protein powder ? Please suggest.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Lybrate-user, yes your weight I low, in hypothyroidism one of the major symptoms is weight gain. It is surprising that you have not gained any weight. One way to increase weight is to have good healthy food, may be you can increase the quantity of carbs and fats. Your ideal body weight should be 60 kgs, so you may take 60 x 30 cal= 1800 cals per day. Plus do moderated exercise, that probably will help in increasing weight. Sometimes genetic make up also does count. As regards taking 75 mcg of thyroxine you are actually taking taking that dose with two different tablets. On treatment tsh should be between 3 to 4 mu/l, that will help in conrolling all the symptoms. Thanks.
