I am suffering from de quervain tenosynovitis. It just concerns me cause I feel like something is getting torn down inside and the part of the bone that is near the sheath is getting bigger. I am applying gel for inflammation and already put bandage to immobilise it. I don't wanna have cortisone treatment or surgery cause I've heard that it will be just a temporary relief and might worsen the pain after. Do you have any suggestions how to treat this? Cause I am really having a hard time at work because of the pain. Thank you.

General Physician,
Repetitive hand or wrist movements can make the condition worse. The main symptoms are pain and tenderness in the wrist, often below the base of the thumb. Treatment may include medication, physiotherapy or in rare cases, surgery. Treatment is generally successful when begun early.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Also you will have to send me photographs from your camera or mobile of your wound so that I can see and advise you accordingly. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. I am a 29years old female. I have an unbearable knee pain wit too much crackling sound when I sit on floor or try to stand up from floor. I feel something is not fine in my knee. Means when I Bend my knee completely. Its happening only to RIGHT knee. & it pains nonstop 24hrs since a month almost. Could it be just a normal pain? Or is this something to worry about? Like arthritis or something? Pls help me. Some tips would be useful too. Thanks Shivani.

usually at this age it could be due patellofemoral problems (joint behind the knee cap). Harmonal influence plays a role where by they soften the cartilage and causes pain. try a course of quadriceps strengthening exercises and avoid squatting and sitting on the floor (since these actions increase the joint reaction force in the knee cap joint). if the pain persists then you should be examined by an ortho surgeon in your place

Dear, According to Ayurveda this condition is known as Griva Sandhigata Vata. Pain in the back of neck, shoulder and arms, stiffness of the neck and even paraplegia occur due to this condition. The movement of the spine generally aggravates the pain of the neck. It is often associated with loss of memory and sleeplessness. Visit us at www.Malhotraayurveda.Com

Sir, mere pairon mein bahut dard rahata hai Maine bhot ilaj karvaya par koi fayda nhi hua.

For leg pain, please follow the below advise: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

My mom is 42 years old having cervical spondylitis. Is there any home remedy to cure it?

COMT, MPTh/MPT
Physiotherapist, Surat
Yes it can be cured by physiotherapy so I would recommed you to consult any physio and start taking physio modalities and manipulations to reduce pain and increase mobility. I have specially designed one program as I-care specially in cases of neck and back pain which I have pratically applied on many of my patients and received a very good result. The treatment include: 1. Ice massage - Take ice pain perform massage over the area which is painful and have swelling. Do “to” and “fro” motion. Apply it for 8-10 minutes and then relax your body for another 3-5 minutes. 2. Deep massage - Using your finger tips start kneading your affected area. 3 finger kneading or 2 finger kneading or you can use thumb also for kneading. Once done with kneading again relax your body for 3-5 minutes. 3. Now apply any pain relieving ointment like volini or oraflame etc. Do not massage with the ointment. Just apply it gently involving all the area. Do not penetrate it. Once done with application again relax your body for 3-5 minutes and start performing exercises. Exercises: Because of pain and stiffness your neck range starts decreasing so with the entire treatment program we can help you to make your neck mobile and reduce pain to live happily. 1. Position - Sitting Bend your head forward until you feel stretch behind your neck. Hold for 5-10 secs. And relax. Repeat 5 -10 times. Perform same by taking neck backward and then side ways. Perform the exercises slowly until a stretch is felt. Do not over stretch, perform slowly and gently. 2. Position - Sitting Isometrics: Infront of mirror. Place your both hands on your forehead. Apply contradict pressure from hands towards your head and with your head towards your hands. There should not be any neck moment. Instead an isometric contractions should be there in neck. Hold for 5 sec and relax. Repeat it for 5-10 times. Perform same by placing your hands on the back of your head and giving isometric contractions to make posterior muscles stregthening. Then same as with placing one hand on right side and giving pressure from hand to head and vice versa. 3. Position - Sitting Stretching - Bend your head forward and and then gently pull your head further by applying pressure from your hands. A stretch is felt on back of your neck. Same a stretch your side neck muscles. 4. While exhaling push your upper rib down with your one hand and then tilt your head and give a slight stretch by rotating your head to opposite side. Hold for 5 sec and then relax. Repeat for 5-10 secs. 5. Neck and back straight, keep your chin in. Hold for 5 sec and feel a stretch in your neck. Relax. Repeat for 5-10 times. 6. Lie on bed with towel roll under your neck. Press the roll into the floor by using your neck muscles. Hold for 5 sec and relax. Perform 5-10 times. Advice - 1. Use very thin pillow while sleeping. 2. Do not sit for long time with your neck forward bending. 3. Lying on bed and reading book or newspaper should be avoided. 4. If there will be any pain while performing exercises or headache stop doing exercise and consult physio right away. 5. Sit in erect posture without bending your back or neck. 6. Position your desktop so that it should be just infront of your neck you do not have to bend your hands or neck. You cannot do those at home. But try I-care program I am sure you will get a relief. Thanks and Good Luck. Get well soon.

Hi I am chaya suffering from leg pain n also my platelet count is high about 9lakh so could you pls suggest me wat to do right now I am taking treatment but not feeling hungry suffering form past 8 months.

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine), Certified in Evidence Based Diabetes Management, MNAMS
Internal Medicine Specialist, Kolkata
Thank you for the query. Firstly I would like to know more about your leg pain. Is it a joint pain or muscle pain (for eg. Pain on the calves). Also whether one calf is more swollen than the other. A platelet count of 9 lacs is quite high and you would need a complete blood count assessment. Such a high count will prone you to develop thrombosis (clots) all over the body (as platelets are responsible for hemostasis). If you are having pain in the calf you need to rule out a deep vein thrombosis. Please do contact a hematologist as soon as possible for complete clinical examination, and get some test done like serum ldh and uric acid. Regards.

I am 19 years old. I am suffer`ng with severe bike ache. I use KTM RC200 bike which has a long reach. I am just just 5'6 so what precautions should I take to avoid back ache.

According to a study 70% of cyclist overextend the area between their pelvis and the lower end of the spine. Core strength is very important in lower back pain. Your core strength includes your back muscles. These muscles all work together to give your core stability. Focus on strengthening your core when your working and that will help with your lower back pain. Having poor spinal health due to bad posture (on and off the bike) can cause lower back pain while riding. Lack of flexibility can contribute to lower back pain while riding a bike. Stretch and avoid tightness in your hamstrings and legs. Avoid raising handlebars so that your spine is in an upright position. A straight back doesn't allow any give when you hit road bumps, and will only make your vertebrae jam together, which will aggravate existing back pain. Riding style can cause lower back pain especially when climbing or changing big gears. The angle of your back is increasing and decreasing causing a strain on your back. Make sure your seat is in the right position. Tilt the front tip of your saddle down about 10 to 15 degrees. This little adjustment will pressure off your pelvis and lower spine. Seat height should be so that your down leg is fully extended when the heel of that foot is on the pedal in the 6 o'clock position. Have the ball of that foot on the pedal; there should be a slight bend in your knee in the down position. Don’t lock your knees! Having your knees lock can cause injury and an upsetting feeling in your lower back.

Anal fissure is due to passing of hard stool. You should avoid constipation. You should get your proctoscopy done under local anesthesia to confirm the diagnosis. Meanwhile you can apply Nitroglycerine ointment for local application.

In short we can conclude that you can suffering from, the said ligament tear and mild bursitis. The most important question is weather it is due to injury .What is your occupation. All we can do which we have experienced in many of the ligament tear and injuries that even after surgery they were not getting normal, in terms of pain and functionality. But in your case without any delay if we start homoeopathic medication you can recover in as early as 3 weeks of periods completely and permanently.
