You must consume around 2.5-3.0 litres water & other liquids daily. In addition have fresh fruit, nimbu, salads in your diet.Ensure physically active routine. All these measures will help you.You can also start Tab Cystone 1 thrice a day. However, you must get investigated to find out the cause of stone formation with blood, urine tests.

I had fissure over a months. Taken a lots of medicine nothing is been happened. What to do.

MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Pune
Background reason for fissure to occur is the hard motion. Rather most of the anorectal problems like fissure, piles or fistula occur because of hard motions, constipation and the habit of straining at stools. Our diet if enriched with natursl fibers will retain small quantity of water and stools will become soft and in a way become easy to evacuate. Carrot, cucumber, raddish, beat, green leafy vegerables like spinach have plenty of natural fibers and help evacuation. If inspite of taking such a healthy diet if the habit of straining continues, then its a time to evaluate further. Examination by a surgeon which includes anoproctoscopy may be followed by anorectal manometry and defecogram depending on the findings of earlier evaluation.

Yes. Drinking water reduces the risk of kidney stones. Not sure if adding lemon helps. City water is fine if boiled and cooled.

Is this possible that if any women have stone. But she do not want operation. Does stone can be removed by homeopathy?
Hi yes homoeopathic medicines are quite effective in treating renal calculi if the stone is small in size, say up to 6 mm. Homoeopathic medicine along with large quantity of water n fluids helps in its removal. There are many homoeopathic medicine depending upon the side of kidney affected, the size of stone, the symptomatology of patient. Please tell me the size of the stone, the side affected and the symptoms so that I can guide you further on this.

Burning sensation only when intake goes low is due to acidic urine. To remove doubts do get a urine routine/microscopic test done. Start drinking plenty of fluids. Add lemon or lime juice to edibles. Get back with reports tommorrow.

Kidney Angiomyolipoma - How To Deal With It?

Mbbs, MD - General Medicine, DM - Nephrology
Nephrologist, Ahmedabad
Kidney Angiomyolipoma - How To Deal With It?

Kidney Angiomyolipoma is also known as AML of the kidney, renal angiomyolipoma or kidney AML. This is a benign tumor that can lead to hemorrhagic complications. A tumour can crop up in the medulla or the cortex of the kidney. A small proportion of this condition can happen in conjunction with tuberous sclerosis. The symptoms vary according to the size of a tumour. The treatment differs from case to case, for some patients, radical nephrectomy may work while for some, invasive wedge resection and partial nephrectomy may work better. The prognosis of this condition is excellent owing to its benign nature.

How is kidney angiomyolipoma medically dealt with?
The treatment option depends on the criticality of a tumour and the general health of the patient. A vast majority of the tumors that are asymptomatic in nature doesn’t require a surgical intervention. After the diagnosis is made, a doctor might want to take the wait and watch approach. If the tumor size is small, only medications can cure the condition. On the other hand, surgical intervention can cure the disease and limit any chances of recurrence. Some of the preferred surgical methods include complete or partial nephrectomy, endoscopic surgery, nephron-sparing surgery and tumor embolization. A nephrectomy is only considered when the tumor size is quite large. In case the kidney function is severely impaired, dialysis is necessary. If the tumor results in abdominal bleeding, emergency surgery should be considered.

Healthy lifestyle changes:
If a person has been diagnosed with kidney angiomyolipoma, it is important to follow a healthy lifestyle. Refraining from salt, potassium is a must. A stressed kidney, in general, is better off without foods such as potato, salt, fast food, processed food, various kind of meat etc. The dietary restriction gets waived off by the doctor once the patient is cured. Lifting heavy weight is a strict no in these circumstances. Adequate rest and enough hydration are necessary to be in shape. Timely consumption of medicine is equally important to get cured.

How can this disease be prevented?
Medical research has not fetched any result over the possible prevention method of renal AML. This condition is often connected with a genetic disorder. The following prevention method is necessary to mitigate the risk of this disease.

  • A genetic test of the expecting parents or molecular testing of the fetus can help a doctor understand whether there is a risk involving the baby.
  • If the disease runs in the family, a genetic counselling can help parents to understand to assess the risk before planning a child.
  • Frequent medical checkups are also necessary for a person who has a family history of this disease.
  • Aggressive medical research is being done to get a possible cure for this problem. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Nephrologist.

Tips for removing kidney stones:: 1. Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, cold drinks, pickles, fish, poultry, meat, spinach, and chocolate. 2. Avoid sour, heavy, and dry food. 3. Increase intake of liquids like water, juice, soup, lime water lemon soda etc. 4. Be sure to drink enough water each day. Usually 1 to 2 liters of water per day is adequate. 5. Drink more if you are perspiring heavily, working outdoors, the weather is hot, etc. 6. Increase the use of barley, horse gram (a type of bean), ginger, and brown rice or parboiled rice. 7. Avoid suppressing urges to urinate and defecate. 9. Boil 10-12 basil leaves in 1 cup of water for 15 minutes. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey in it and take twice a day. Pls send your USG report because medication for stones depends upon size, number and location of stones and can be given after USG.

My mother aged 63 years suffering CKD from last 3 years and on dialysis since Oct' 2013. But now she is too much irritated. Can we apply another therapy on her like ayurvedic, hakeemi or naturopathy. Is it responsive?

FIMSA, MD-Nephrology, DM - Nephrology, Critical Care Medicine, MBBS

We do not have any treatment equivalent of dialysis in alternative systems of medicine. It is also unlikely for your mother to sustain without dialysis. Therefore she must continue with it unless you have a possibility of kidney transplantation.

Dear , fissure is the result of passage of hard toilet or severe diarrhoea. Hard faeces is due to constipation and it is not a disease but a lifestyle problem and unless you do that sort of adjustment away from sedentary lifestyle it will remain there. Increase your fluid intake, take high fiber and high residue diet, increase physical activity like walking, games or exercises. Take emollient laxative like cremaffin plus 1 tsf at night with isabgol powder 3-4 tsf with 300 ml. Of water at night. Apply zincal ointment inside anus twice a day and sitz bath-sit in tubful of warm water for 15 minutes daily.

Diabetes - Know Its Devastating Effect On Your Kidneys!

Diabetes is a disorder that is characterized by an inability of the pancreas to produce enough insulin or effectively utilize the insulin produced by the body. Insulin is the hormone that is produced by the pancreas to metabolize sugar in the body, the sugar that is present in the food that you consume.

Diabetes is commonly classified into two types: Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

In Type 1 diabetes, the cells in the pancreas do not produce insulin in the required amounts; this disorder usually tends to occur in children. Type 2 diabetes generally occurs in people who are above 40 years of age; this type is characterized by an inability of the body to efficiently utilize the insulin produced by the pancreas.

How can diabetes affect your kidneys?

Too much glucose, also called sugar, in your blood from diabetes damages your kidneys’ filters. If the filters are damaged, a protein called albumin, which you need to stay healthy, leaks out of your blood and into your urine. Damaged kidneys do not do a good job of filtering wastes and extra fluid from your blood. The wastes and extra fluid build up in your blood and make you sick.

Diabetes is a leading cause of kidney disease. Diabetic kidney disease is the medical term for kidney disease caused by diabetes. Diabetic kidney disease affects both kidneys at the same time.

Signs of Kidney Disease in Patients with Diabetes

  1. Albumin/protein in the urine
  2. High blood pressure
  3. Ankle and leg swelling, leg cramps
  4. Going to the bathroom more often at night
  5. High levels of BUN and creatinine in blood
  6. Less need for insulin or antidiabetic medications
  7. Morning sickness, nausea and vomiting
  8. Weakness, paleness and anemia
  9. Itching

What are the possible complications?

  1. End-stage kidney failure: If this occurs then you would need kidney dialysis or a kidney transplant.
  2. Cardiovascular diseases: Diabetics have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, such as heart disease, stroke and peripheral arterial disease. If you have diabetes and diabetic kidney disease, your risk of developing cardiovascular diseases is increased further.
  3. High blood pressure: Kidney disease has a tendency to increase blood pressure. In addition, increased blood pressure has a tendency to make kidney disease worse. Treatment of high blood pressure is one of the main treatments of diabetic kidney disease.

What to do?

  1. It is essential to get your urine checked at least once every year to detect signs of kidney damage.
  2. Some other symptoms that you may experience are swelling in the ankles, weight gain and a rise in your blood pressure.
  3. The first step to treat kidney damage caused by diabetes is to get your blood sugar levels under control.
  4. You should also avoid consuming medications that can cause damage to the kidneys.
  5. A kidney transplant or dialysis may be advised if the damage to kidneys is significant. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a nephrologist.

Urine discharge in small drops al through out day, even after urinating. Wat r causes n symptoms of this.

Urine discharge in small drops al through out day, even after urinating. Wat r causes n symptoms of this.
Hello. What's your age? If you are young, then probability of residual urine is more. Residual urine is urine left in the bladder after a person has urinated. Voiding the whole contents of the bladder is generally a good idea, when you can. When people are unable to fully clear their bladders, and leave residual urine, they also may feel the need to urinate more often. Any new urine entering the bladder combines with the urine that's already there to fill the bladder quickly. This can lead to poor nights of sleep, lots of bathroom breaks, and also the uncomfortable feeling that the bladder is never fully empty. The difficulty in not voiding the bladder entirely is that urine remaining in the bladder can become a good culture for bacterial growth. People who frequently leave residual urine in the bladder may be at much greater risk for urinary tract infections (UTI). UTIs can create more residual urine, because voiding the bladder may be difficult, painful, or the urine stream can become partially obstructed. Management: It’s advisable that you wait a few moments before leaving the bathroom, and try urinating again if you've had problems in the past with residual urine. Often, waiting just a minute or two before trying again can help clear residual urine.
