Hi I travelled to USA a month back. I have one yr old baby. This time my period is too late. My pregnancy test was negative. Please advise.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
Sometimes lifestyle factors contribute to amenorrhea, for instance: Low body weight. Excessively low body weight ? about 10 percent under normal weight ? interrupts many hormonal functions in your body, potentially halting ovulation. Women who have an eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia, often stop having periods because of these abnormal hormonal changes. Excessive exercise. Women who participate in activities that require rigorous training, such as ballet, may find their menstrual cycles interrupted. Several factors combine to contribute to the loss of periods in athletes, including low body fat, stress and high energy expenditure. Stress. Mental stress can temporarily alter the functioning of your hypothalamus ? an area of your brain that controls the hormones that regulate your menstrual cycle. Ovulation and menstruation may stop as a result. Regular menstrual periods usually resume after your stress decreases. Hormonal imbalance Many types of medical problems can cause hormonal imbalance.

Ask her to check her serum vitamin d3 and vitamin b 12 levels. She may also have iron deficiency. If so then it needs to be corrected immediately. She also needs to eat a nutrient dense food. Her diet should comprise of whole grains like jowar, bajra, wheat, brown rice, pulses like moong, musoor, bengal gram, lots of vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, chicken, paneer, healthy oil, nuts and seeds. She need to eat them in right proportion. Avoid eating sugar and sweets, refined foods like maida, noodles pasta, white rice and products, bread. Drink a lot of water. Exercise atleast 5 times a week. Do not overeat. Eat 3 proper meals and 2 snack in between. Stop when your stomach is 80% full. Eat slowly.

Hi doctor my wife has a regular period up to last month. Probable starting date was 26-feb-2015. In march she felt some symptoms but there's no bleeding. It is 1 April. She tested for pregnancy but the result was negative. So what the reason. What should we do now. Thanks

PG Hom, London, BHMS

Hi, Some irregularities in the menstrual cycle is normal. But a delay of more than a month should not be ignored. You can get an ultrasound pelvis done of your wife, which will let you know the reason as to why her periods are delayed.

I am 27 yr old married woman, I have diagnosed with ruptured cyst after doing a ultrasound today. Is there any chance that it can be ectopic pregnancy? I had pain in my left abdomen and from past 2 months my menstrual bleeding days got reduced from 5 days to 3 days.

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
No it should be a functional ovarian cyst. Your pain should settle down in a weeks time. To be very sure you can do a urine pregnancy test as well.

5 Helpful Tips for New Mothers

5 Helpful Tips for New Mothers

1. Limit well-wishing - This can be extremely important for those first few weeks at home and is also often in the best interest of your baby's health. Certainly you are anxious to show off your new little one, but there will be time. Don't be afraid to place limits and disregard those that would like to insist that it is ok for them to come by. A good game plan is to let everyone know a date after which you will feel up to having visitors meet your newest family member. It is ok if they disagree.

2. Accept help - Chores still can get done by others. Tell family and friends how they can help. When people want to visit, ask if they might be willing to bring food. Don't be afraid to rely on others.

3. Breast-feed if you can - Yes, it's good for the baby but it also will burn an extra 500 calories a day. If you're trying to get the postpartum weight off, breast-feeding is a great way to start.

4. Hang up your cape - You are a superwoman but superheroes need rest too. Napping when the baby sleeps is easier said than done if you think you have to keep up with laundry and cooking. Forget the chores and try to nap at least once a day.

5. Drink water - Breast-feeding increases your need to stay hydrated. Get the equivalent of 8 glasses of water a day. Stay away from sugary sodas and caffeine that can filter into breast milk.

Hi i-pill is meant for emergency contraception. It should not be used as a regular contraceptive method. Once a month- a big no no. It should be used only in emergency when the other method is likely to fail.

I am a student of 12 class and my problem is I found some stone like hard material inside my breast it does not create any pain its size is approx 3 cm. What is this how can I cure this I am very about that? Is it take surgery?

MD - Radiothrapy, MBBS

The most common reason for this condition in your age group is fibroadenoma of breast. It is a benign - non cancerous tumor. Most of the time it does not require any treatment. Rarely there is a possibility of cancer. You should get breast examination done by oncologist.
