black color gums are normal condition. .it is due to melanin pigmentation on gums... toothpaste will not be helpful. .. if you want pink color for gums, you can go for gums depigmentation surgery. ..

There is so much gap in between all teeth of mine, mostly it gets strucked/ make place in between gaps of teeth, whatever I eat. Is there any solution for the problem?

BDS

Hi, If alignment of teeth is not proper, this problem can b solved by orthodontic(braces) treatment and if alignment is normal then u can go for veneers which covers front surface so gap won't be visible.

I am 20 years old. I have teeth pain problem. I used collagate pest but not relief are here. I want best sueegation.

BDS
Dentist, Pune
None of the toothpaste can give you relief from pain, paste is just a medium to keep the teeth clean. If you have pain with your teeth then you should visit a dentist so that he can just examine that you are having generalized teeth pain or gum problem, or there is some particular tooth which is carious & giving pain, accordingly the treatment plan will vary, scaling or fillings or root canal treatment.

In the start of this year, I suddenly developed white scars inside my oral cavity which burn extremely in contact with spicy food. It was diagnosed as Oral Lichen Planus. Tests done showed I had a auto-immune problem. The doctor has given me a tablet which he said is a steroid and have to rinse it only and then apply Kenacort Gel. There is improvement but it still burns like hell when I eat food. My question is, is it true this is incurable and I am stuck with this for life? Is this the right kind of treatment or is there any other better form of treating this? Why did I get this? If incurable, can I do something to eat food peacefully?

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Dear lybrate-user you r worry is quite genuine ,as if it is diagnose as lichen planus ,it takes long time to go .take treatment and get tests done to confirm diagnosis. Once confirmed. The most common signs are white patches on the lining of your mouth (usually your cheeks, tongue and gums). These don't usually hurt, but sometimes painful as in your case ,you may find it painful to eat hot or spicy foods. As the cause is usually not known it is impossible to stop oral lichen planus happening. Precautions don't smoke don't drink large amounts of alcohol do eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Whether you have oral lichen planus or not, you should clean your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day with a fluoride toothpaste. You should also have your teeth and gums checked regularly by a dentist so that any changes in the lining of your mouth can easily be spotted. Usually oral lichen planus only needs to be treated when there are painful symptoms. Sometimes patients with white patches that are not painful complain of a slight roughness of the lining of the mouth. But this usually does not need any treatment. When oral lichen planus does need treating, it is usually done by putting a corticosteroid cream on the area. Some areas may need other treatments, such as immunosuppressants applied to the area. Very rarely you might need to take a corticosteroid or some other, similar, tablets. Follow any advice your dental surgeon give you. This may include avoiding things that make the condition worse, such as spicy foods and things you may be allergic to. Usually oral lichen planus never goes away. Patients will usually continue to have white patches on the lining of the mouth. Treatment will lessen the pain, although it is not usually possible to tell beforehand when the condition will become painful. Therefore have patience and take regular treatment and you will be fine.

I'm 20 year old. Every morning when I brush teeth my gums start bleeding. How to treat this by myself?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person.

I have a problem with my mouth and teeth with bad smell to others so I how can I manage or reduce it?

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: - practice good oral hygiene. - Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. - Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. - Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. - Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. - See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. - Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. - Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

Hi, Im facing gums problem. How should I take care for healthy gums. I didn't have any drinking and chewing habits. My gums are little bit move down on lower incisors.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Please visit a dentist who will evaluate the exact condition of your gums and give you specific instructions. Some generals ones are that though you should brush your gums and teeth using short vertical strokes, you should not use too much force and a medium or soft toothbrush is preferred. Make sure food does not get caught in between teeth by washing the mouth regularly after meals. A scaling procedure by a dentist is a must if you have gum probelem.

Get it removed, it will involve one small injection of local anesthesia and this will make that area numb. After this tooth removal will be painless. You just need to follow instructions given by dentist and take medications as prescribed.

Interesting Dental Facts and Tips for Healthy Teeth

Interesting Dental Facts and Tips for Healthy Teeth

Maintaining good oral hygiene is very simple if you follow these basic tips and incorporate some healthy habits in your daily routine. A little care goes a long way in ensuring that your smile stays bright and your teeth stay strong. A healthy smile resides in a healthy body. Value your smile and follow these simple tips for your oral health.

  • Going to the dentist at least twice a year is the best preventive measure that you can take to spot anything unusual going on in your mouth or jaws.
  • Brushing twice daily with a fluoridated toothpaste is very important for healthy, cavity-free teeth. Don't aim to simply scrub your teeth, rather clean them gently using proper brushing technique.
  • Many people don't consider Flossing to be essential for oral health but if you don't floss, you miss cleaning almost 35% of your tooth surfaces. If you're unaware of the technique, ask your dentist to demonstrate it for you.
  • If you often find food particles getting stuck between your teeth, use an interdental brush or floss but Don't ever dig in using a toothpick. It leads to gum recession.
  • Using a frayed, worn out toothbrush for your teeth is as good as not brushing at all. Make sure you change your toothbrush after every 3 months. Keep it at least 6ft away from the toilet area. Keep it dry as a wet toothbrush attracts bacterial growth and clean it ocasionally by washing it with warm water to get rid of the bacteria.
  • The tongue plays an important role in reducing bad breath but it is often forgotten while brushing. Keep your tongue clean and scrape off all food debris using a tongue cleaner.
  • Having a good diet is equally vital for your oral health as it is for your overall health. Include healthy, Vitamin C rich citrus fruits in your diet as they are highly beneficial for your gum health. Consume plenty of water and fluids to keep yourself hydrated. It also helps in reducing the incidence of mouth ulcers. Avoid taking excess of aerated drinks/soda.
