7 Easy Checks To Avoid Malaria This Monsoon

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
7 Easy Checks To Avoid Malaria This Monsoon
With the onset of monsoons, there is an increase in number of mosquitoes which can cause malaria and which may get fatal in some cases but if detected early we can cure it completely. It is always advisable to take the right precautions so that one doesn't fall sick later.

Note the following points to avoid malaria.

1) if you are pregnant or with a child, avoid going to mosquito-prone areas.
2) ensure that there is no stagnation of water for more than seven days because these are breeding grounds of mosquitoes. Change the stored water every seventh day and see to it -- in any area - be it your building premises or nearby locality make the water flow down the drain
3) wear clothes that are full sleeved and cover your legs. If children are going out to play, ensure that they are well covered and safe from mosquito bite.
4) ensure that you are sleeping under a mosquito net if there are mosquitoes around you
5) make sure you close the doors and windows of your house before sunset as this is the time when the mosquitoes enter the houses.
6) do not neglect if you see any symptoms of malaria; you should see a doctor immediately. The symptoms include fever& shivering, vomitting, headaches, weakness.
7) chances of getting bitten by malaria causing mosquitoes is high between dusk and dawn so be careful when you are going out at this time.

I am suffering from sunburn problem on my face. I have already consulted from doctor and have taken medicines but no effect. Can you tell me now what to do?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Sunburn treatment is designed to attack the burn on two fronts -- relieving reddened, inflamed skin while easing pain. Here are a few home remedies for sunburn: Compresses. Apply cold compresses to your skin or take a cool bath to soothe the burn. Creams or gels. To take the sting out of your sunburn, gently rub on a cream or gel containing ingredients such as: Menthol Camphor Aloe Apply aloe or over-the-counter moisturizing lotion to skin as directed. To soothe and cool skin, take a cool bath or shower or apply cool compresses to the area. For pain, take ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol). If blisters form, don't break them. Protect your skin from further sun exposure.

The white color of the semen is due to secretion from the prostate glands containing enzymes, citric acid, lipids, and acid phosphatase. This forms around 25-30% of the semen base. At each ejaculation around 200-500 million sperms are released by the testes. This forms about 2-5% of the semen composition.

I want to ask you What is the medicine for cough cold fever and weakness.

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
I want to ask you What is the medicine for cough cold fever and weakness.
Sneezing, sore throat, a stuffy nose, coughing - everyone knows the symptoms of the common cold. It is probably the most common illness. In the course of a year, people in the united states suffer 1 billion colds. What can you do for your cold or cough symptoms? besides drinking plenty of fluids and getting plenty of rest, you may want to take medicines. There are lots of different cold and cough medicines, and they do different things. Nasal decongestants - unclog a stuffy nose...i.e ................ nasal dop/spray.....nasivion Cough suppressants - quiet a cough...................................... syp. Brozedax Expectorants - loosen mucus so you can cough it up.............syp...zeet expectorant Antihistamines - stop runny noses and sneezing.....................tab/syp....levocetirizine Pain relievers - ease fever, headaches, and minor aches and pains.......tab..flucold plus . Here are some other things to keep in mind about cold and cough medicines. Read labels, because many cold and cough medicines contain the same active ingredients. Taking too much of certain pain relievers can lead to serious injury. Do not give cough medicines to children under four, and don't give aspirin to children. Finally, antibiotics won't take. take cap. zevit for weekness.

In todays stressful life proportion of infertility is increased significantly, you need to stop all medications (except multivitamins), and concentrate on balanced and healthy diet along with regular exercise, this is for both husband and wife, living together for more than 2 years and still not concieveing calls for starting infertility treatment which includes a set of tests for both husband and wife, since your age is already 35 you should not delay it further.

What to do to get relief from cough?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
Firstly there's no lifelong cure for the common cold. Antibiotics are only effective against infections of throat and are of no use against cold viruses. Over-the-counter (otc) cold preparations won't cure a common cold or make it go away any sooner, and most have side effects. A saltwater gargle 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2tsp turmeric dissolved in a glass of warm water can temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat. To help relieve nasal congestion, try saline (pure salt water) nasal drops. If you have a throat infection, or a viral cold then I will prescribe appropriate meds based on your detailed assessment. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

I am 47 years old. I'm a BP patient and I do consume alcohol. I'm observing that my hands tend to shake. For instance, when I'm having my food with right hand they shake and even my head shakes a little when I'm in anger or during adrenaline. First I thought of not asking this question because I found it a little embarrassing but I'm posting this question because my kids and my wife observed it. Please help.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, your problem is quite common in cases of long standing addiction of alcohol. You need to stop taking alcohol immediately. However I can understand that is not so easy to quit such an addiction. It will need a lot of will power to abstain yourself from alcohol. Here I am stating few rules which will effectively help you. Firstly:- reduce the amount of alcohol you consume daily. Secondly:- do not drink alcohol too quickly. A 30 ml peg of alcohol needs upto 30 minutes to get absorbed in our body. Third:- mix 60 drops of homoeopathic mother tincture acid sulph q in the water with which you will prepare your peg. Follow the aforesaid rules daily. Within 15 days your craving for alcohol will be reduced.

I have an problem to eat something very difficult but my problem is not solving. Tell me something about my problem.
Hye, thanks for the query. To improve appetite and weight you need to try eating more frequently. Being underweight can be a concern if it's the result of poor nutrition. Here are some healthy ways to gain weight when you're underweight: eat more frequently. When you're underweight, you may feel full faster. Eat five to six smaller meals during the day rather than two or three large meals. Choose nutrient-rich foods. As part of an overall healthy diet, choose whole-grain breads, rice and cereals; fruits and vegetables; dairy products; lean protein sources; and nuts. Don't fill up on diet soda, coffee and other drinks with few calories and little nutritional value. Instead, drink smoothies or healthy shakes. Snack on nuts, dried fruits and fresh fruits. Even when you're underweight, be mindful of excess sugar and fat. An occasional slice of cake or ice cream is fine. But most sweets should be healthy and provide nutrients in addition to calories. Sheera, lassi and chikki are good choices. Exercise, especially strength training, can help you gain weight by building up your muscles. Exercise may also stimulate your appetite.
