Blocked Arteries: Know The Reasons Behind It

Blockage in heart is a common term used for narrowing of coronary arteries. Coronary arteries are vessels (which supply blood and thus oxygen and food) to continuously working heart muscles. Heart muscles which are not tired working from the birth till death, however, cannot sustain long without blood supply.

A reduction in blood supply gives rise to ischemia of heart muscles commonly manifested as chest discomfort or angina. A sudden complete shutdown of blood supply leads to heart attack leading to permanent damage to heart (if blood flow not reestablished promptly).

But what causes these arteries to block? Deposition of LDL cholesterol (low density cholesterol) in inner surface of coronary arteries is the primary reason of these blockages. LDL a normal component of blood (upto certain limit) starts depositing in arteries as early as 10 years of age!

Deposition of billions of LDL molecules over several years on inner surface of arteries gives rise to visible narrowings of these arteries. Flow ahead of these narrowings are reduced in proportion to the narrowing. At a level of 70 % narrowing the flow is reduced to give ischemia (and angina) during exercise. Gradually increasing degree of narrowing reduces the exercise needed for ischemia and angina; a narrowing of more than 90 % can give symptoms at rest. A sudden clot formation at any of these stages can block the blood flow suddenly giving rise to a heart attack.

If LDL is a normal component of blood, why it is deposited in the arteries at first place?

LDL above a certain limit  LDL-C ≤2.0 mmol/L in blood starts depositing in the arteries. Normal LDL value Diabetes, Hypertension, smoking, less exercise and genetics makes it more sticky thus making narrowing faster. This is why these risk elements need to be properly attended for prevention from heart disease. For treatment medicines are important for to halt the progression of narrowing of the arteries; There are surgical options like angioplasty (method of fast resolution of blockage;) and bypass surgery ( method of creating a whole new blood supply for the affected part of the heart) available. But Madhavbaug has developed a treatment that will effectively treat your blockage with the help of Ayurvedic Panchkarma sittings and lifestyle modifications. Kindly visit your nearest Madhavbaug Clinic for expert medical advice. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a cardiologist.

Please do npt start with any harmone therapy or allopathic medicines A Pelvic Ultrasonography may be requred or if already done that is enough. Medicines (Ayurvedic) may have to be taken untill the periods become normal As you are getting married after a year there is ample time for the periods to become normal. A consultation is required. It may become normal in 3 months or 6 months Depends. All lab reports are to be seen.

Garbh Sanskar and Ayurveda

Garbh Sanskar and Ayurveda

The Ayurvedic Garbha Sanskar offers a list of guidelines for would-be parents
The aim of any parent is to bear and nurture a healthy, capable child who can face the pressures of our increasingly complex lifestyles. An Ayurvedic solution to this situation has slowly gained momentum, a process called Garbha Sanskar. Garbha Sanskar is both a medical practice and a 'culture'. Just like a person brought up in a musician's house imbibes a musical culture, the child is conditioned within the womb. The practice has been developed over four decades of research and medical practice. Tambe says, "If women are provided with expert guidance during pregnancy and the early years of their children, it will have an immense impact on society."

What it Involves

Traditional diet planning, use of herbal preparations, yoga, music, behavioural suggestions and medicines are all used in harmony. The idea is to enhance every aspect of the mother's life. Ideally, preparations should start at least a year before conception. Garbha Sanskar covers pregnancy, childbirth and guides parents until the child is two years old. Parents who have followed these instructions say their babies are able to hold their heads up, turn on their side and begin speaking earlier than other babies. They sleep soundly for several hours and have far fewer health concerns than their peers. In some cases, they show extra-ordinary development. You can also take the package for Living Healthy - Woman.

What Ayurveda Says?

When the sun is out, it means your digestion is functioning at its optimum. Always aim to eat your meals between sunrise and sunset (not before or after). Our jatara agni is at is strongest when the sun is at its highest in the sky-

  1. Eat light, sattvic and pure foods for breakfast; fresh squeezed juice, fresh fruit etc.
  2. Have positivity when you are eating and digesting your food.

Negative emotions cause us to overeat or under-eat

An understanding of the negative emotions (in relation to our major energy centres (chakras)) that disturb our Being and cause us to overeat or under-eat.

Modern day illnesses such as anxiety, depression, stress are all related to food.

Health During Pregnancy

A beautiful dhyana (meditation), asana (body postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques) practice that addresses (cleanses and energizes) the three major chakras (energy centres) that are responsible for all over our health during pregnancy.

Our thoughts are energy, mantras are chanted during pregnancy affects your baby blissfully.

Some guidelines for childcare

  1. Until the child is two years old, it needs regular oil massages to help growth
  2. While he or she can start eating other food after it is six months old, it must be breastfed until it is a year old
  3. Do not place the baby's bed under direct light
  4. Avoid loud and disturbing noises, introduce new foods gradually, and allow the baby to start eating by itself at a certain age even if it creates a mess

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a specilized ayurveda and ask a free question.

What Is Panchakarma And What Are the Benefits of This Therapy?

What Is Panchakarma And What Are the Benefits of This Therapy?

Panchakarma is the ultimate mind-body healing experience for detoxifying the body, strengthening the immune system, and restoring balance and well-being. It is one the most effective healing modality in Ayurvedic Medicine. It promotes Detoxification and Rejuvenation. It is recommended on a seasonal basis, as well as when an individual feels out of balance or is experiencing illness.

PANCHAKARMA

Panchakarma is a Sanskrit word that means “five actions” or “five treatments”. This is a process used to clean the body of toxic materials left by disease and poor nutrition. Normally the body has the innate ability to efficiently process and remove these waste materials, including the vitiated doshas. However due to one’s repeated dietary indiscretions, poor exercise patterns, lifestyle, and genetic predisposition the digestive enzymes, metabolic co-factors, hormones, and agnis which regulate the body’s internal homeostasis become disorganized. This can lead to the accumulation and spread of toxins throughout the physiology resulting in disease. This waste matter is called ama in Ayurveda. Ama is a foul-smelling, sticky, harmful substance that needs to be completely evacuated from the body.

Panchakarma will remove the excess doshas and correct imbalances in them as well as eliminate the harmful ama out of your system through the body’s own organs and channels of elimination (colon, sweat glands, lungs, bladder, urinary tract, stomach, intestines, etc). Panchakarma purifies the tissues at a very deep level. It involves daily massages and oil baths, herbal enemas, nasal administrations. It is a very pleasurable experience. Ayurveda recommends Panchakarma as a seasonal treatment for maintaining mental and physical hygiene and balance.

Panchakarma is a five-fold therapy; it is highly individualized based on the needs of the individual depending on the Ayurvedic constitutional type, doshic imbalances, age, digestive strength, immune status, and many other factors. Depending on each individual’s needs all or only parts of the five therapies are utilized. Specially trained therapists must administer these procedures in a definite sequence for a specified period of time. In addition, although Panchakarma is for the most part a delightful and comfortable therapy, there can be periods of discomfort associated with the profound release of toxins, which does occur. It is therefore essential that a knowledgeable expert who can recognize the signs of properly and improperly administered Panchakarma supervise the therapy. Fortunately these signs were meticulously recorded by the ancient vaidyas.

The panchakarma means Pancha and Karma. Pancha means five and Karma means therapy(Treatment).

The five methods or panchakarma are the elimination of vitiated doshas from the body.

Panchakarma :

  1. SNEHAN
  2. SWEDAN
  3. VAMANA
  4. VIRECHANA
  5. BASTI
    • ANUVASANA VASTI
    • NIROOHA VASTI
  6. NASYA

Before doing this Panchakarma procedures a physician has to consider the strength, age, sex, disease condition, constitution etc., of the patient.

Panchakarma Benefits :

  • The vitiated doshas will be eliminated from the body through the elementary tract.
  • The power of digestion and metabolism is enhanced.
  • Diseases are cured and health is restored.
  • The sense faculties , mind, intelligence and complexion becomes clear.
  • Gains strength.
  • The individual will not be affected by old age and lives long healthily.
  • Rejuvenates the body.
  • Prevents diseases in the body. Increases power of Immunity.
  • Nourishes the body.
  • Revitalises the nervous system.

You have to wait and see. The delay or absence of periods may imply either menstrual irregularity (may be due to pills or hormonal imbalance) or due to pregnancy. It's better to observe the pattern over the time and decide. In case of doubt about pregnancy, check urine pregnancy test. Maintain an ideal weight and eat healthy food and exercise every day. Mental relaxation is equally important to maintain regular menstrual periods. Check with your gynecologist (regular check up as a preventive health measure at least once a year ).
