Hello doctor. Please tell me the symptom of colour blindness and how can it be treated?
In day to day life it is very difficult to detect color blindness, till you asked to recognize letters in Ishihara's test, there is no treatment for color blindness ,it is genetically transferred from mother or father side, colour blindness is only manifested in male & females are not colour blind but just they are carrier of genes of colour blindness, with regards.

Hi lybrate-user, Dark spots on face can be easily treated. For skin darkening, many treatment modes are available. There are creams to be applied locally, which I can prescribe to you. Treatments like peels and dermarollers provide lasting effects. Open pores can be treated by Microdermabrasion, chemical peels and oxy-micro current therapy. For Eye bags oxy-micro current therapy is beneficial. I would be happy to help you.

Hello! It seems that you're suffering from tensive headache which is a common occurrence in students/working people. You should take regular breaks between studies, don't study in dim light, use table & chair to study. Take enough water and nutritious diet throughout the day. You may even take homoeopathic medicines to control your symptoms.

Know Your Eye Doctor!

M.S. Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Vadodara
Know Your Eye Doctor!

It is very essential in the present times to understand the training, ability and skills of the doctors whom you select for your needs.

An EYE DOCTOR is called OPHTHALMOLOGIST. He/She can possess following qualifications

  1. M.S (Ophth) : This is called Master Of Surgery in Ophthalmology. It takes THREE years of training in a Medical Council recognized Medical College after passing M.B;B.S and includes undertaking and submission of a thesis or research Paper during the training. It can be done by obtaining seat based on Merit, Based on reservation or Based on Donation
  2. D.O (Ophth) : This is called Diploma in Ophthalmology. It is similar to M.S. except that training period is TWO years and does NOT include doing research paper
  3. DNB (Ophth): This is called Diplomat of National Board in ophthalmology. The training is done after M.B;B.S in some private institutes or hospitals recognized by National board of examinations and not in MCI recognized Medical college

LONG TERM FELLOWSHIPS: As the knowledge base is increasing, there is further training undertaken for super specializing in some specific field of eye surgery through a process called FELLOWSHIP. This includes training for about two years after M.S., D.O or D.N.B in some Institues of repute like Shankar Nethralaya Chennai, Aravind Eye Care Systems ( Madurai/ Coimbatore), L.V.Prasad Eye Institute ( Hyderabad) to name a few. The training involves doing actual work in specialized techniques under supervision and guidance of experts in respective fields like Retina, Cornea, Glaucoma, Oculoplasty, Phaco and Refractive Surgery, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Neurophthalmology etc.

SHORT TERM FELLOWSHIPS:  They are similar to long term fellowships but training period is very short , like 2-3 months . The training helps a general ophthalmologist to acquire some skills in a speciality but not sufficient to be able to be a super specialist. However, some doctors with such training may claim to be superspecialists!

ACEDEMIC FELLOWSHIPS: Such fellowships test the knowledge of Doctor through two or three steps of examinations/ Viva. There is no practical training given Examples are,

FRCS:     Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons

FICO:     Fellow of International Council of Ophthalmologists

FAICO:  Fellow of All India Collegium of Ophthalmologists

Some senior Ophthalmologists who were trained in multiple eye diseases and worked for a long time in handling them may be as good as superspecialists in some areas.

Besides Ophthalmologists, some trained personnel can undertake some eye care tasks like

OPTOMETRISTS: They can assess and prescribe Spectacle power(numbers), prescribe and dispense contact lenses, run some eye tests on machines.

OPTICIANS:  They can make/ sell glasses or contact lenses as prescribed by Ophthalmologists/ optometrists. They can not prescribe. Yet, many shops do so without Optometrists.

OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIANS: They can operate  machines like Perimetry, OCT, A scan ultrasonography, Topography etc.

Hope that now the readers are better informed about their eye care providers.

Unfortunately Optic nerve cells once die can't regenerate. At least not yet. So none of the systems of medicine will be able to help regain lost nerve fibres. I hope you had a baseline visual field test done for left eye. I will also strongly recommend you have regular dilated comprehensive eye examination once a year to ensure your left eye remains healthy and in case of any disease it is detected at soonest.

Wearing and Caring for Your Contact Lenses

Cornea Cataract & Lasik
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Wearing and Caring for Your Contact Lenses

There are a number of eye conditions that make the use of glasses and eye lenses mandatory for a more comfortable life where your vision is as normal as is medically possible. Poor eyesight and conditions like inward eyelids and others can lead to the prescription of contact lenses and glasses. Contact lenses are delicate optical tools that glide easily over your eyes and need a lot of care. One should also know how to wear them properly. If one does not wear and care for the contact lenses properly, it may lead to a variety of complications.

Read on to know how you can take better care of your contact lenses:

  • Cleanliness: To begin with, keeping the lenses clean is of utmost importance. Since these lenses will go on to the eye and remain there for most part of the day, it is imperative that they should be clean so that no dirt comes to settle on the eye to cause complications and even possible infections in the long run. While the disposable soft contact lenses do not need a whole lot of care as they can be disposed as and when the wearer needs a new pair, the soft lenses are the ones that need regular care so as to avoid vision affecting problems in the long run.
  • Clean Hands: Before you handle the contact lenses, you must wash and clean your hands thoroughly with a non cosmetic soap that is free of additives like fragrances and artificial perfumes, oils and other lotions. These may get transferred to the lens which will leave you with blurry vision. Dry your hands properly using a lint free towel.
  • Makeup: If you have to wear makeup, we would suggest doing so after you have safely installed the contact lenses in your eyes. Also, you must remember to remove your lenses before you begin the makeup removal procedure. This is to be done so that you do not get any makeup on to the delicate surface of the lens.
  • Disinfecting Solution: When you buy your contact lenses, you will also get a disinfecting solution as well as a set of instructions for taking care of your lenses. So ensure that you use the correct disinfecting solution, eye drops as well as the prescribed enzymatic cleaners to keep your lenses clean and free of germs with a light rubbing action. Let the lenses stand in this solution at night too so that the germs cannot travel to the surface.

Never use tap water or your mouth to clean these lenses as the microorganisms found even in distilled water can latch on to the surface.

There a lot of difference in number of both eyes, so using spectacles will be a problem as image size from both eyes will vary. Options are 1. Contact lens 2. Laser surgery like lasik.
