Common Signs Of Hearing Problems In Adults!

Common Signs Of Hearing Problems In Adults!

Hearing loss is not something limited to elderly men or elderly women only. This is something that can affect any adult at any stage of life. The good news is that it can be managed. Today, there are a number of hearing aids that can help improve hearing ability. These aids allow an individual who has lost part of his or her hearing to live a normal life. For best results, hearing loss should be arrested in its early stages.

Here are a few signs you should look out for.

  1. Muffled Speech: When you hear people talk, their speech should be clearly identifiable. If you hear muffled noises that you have to interpret as words, it could be a sign of hearing loss.
  2. Difficulty understanding words: The human ear has the ability to separate conversational sounds from ambient noise. However, in some cases where the inner ear is damaged, a person might find it difficult to separate the two. In such cases, the person might not be able to understand words clearly as they get confused with background noise. This is a sign that must never be taken lightly.
  3. Feeling the need to ask people to repeat themselves: Once in a while if you find yourself asking another person to repeat what he or she said, there is nothing to worry. However, if this becomes a regular occurrence and happens with many people, then the fault lies in your hearing. Thus, if you notice yourself needing to ask people to repeat themselves or talk slowly, consult a hearing specialist.
  4. Increasing the volume of the radio or television: As children, we are taught that playing music or watching TV at a very high volume can damage the ears. The radio, television and other such appliances should be played at a volume where the information being relayed is clearly audible and people can have a conversation alongside without needing to shout. If you find yourself having to increase the volume constantly, it could be a sign of hearing loss.
  5. Withdrawing from conversations: As hearing loss is aggravated, people begin to feel conscious of having to ask others around them to repeat themselves or talk slowly. This can make them withdraw from a conversation and other social situations. In many cases, the simple reason for avoiding a party could be the discomfort of not being able to hear the other person clearly in a conversation.

All hearing problems can be better handled by proper investigation, different test, sign and symptoms of the patient, which are carried by a specialist of hearing, called as Audiologist, who can look your hearing problems, plan out treatment plan, rehabilitation pre and post etc. Audiologist will definitely help you hear again.

Prevent Bedwetting Reduce evening fluid intake. Have your child go to the bathroom before getting into bed. Set a goal for your child of getting up at night to use the toilet. Make sure the child has easy access to the toilet. Reward your child for remaining dry. Consider using absorbent pants at night.

Sir/Madam, My son is 3 years 3months old. Issue - speeching delayed. Last week we visited a paediatrician for the first time for this case. She has advised me to get autism screening by a psychologist and BERA test from ENT. Psychologist has given "no autism category" result. Our ENT deptt doesn't have BERA testing facility. But they have told the child has no signs of hear loss. He can pronounce around 12 words now. Is there anything to concern seriously? Thanks.

Being 3.3,the child should be talking easily in sentences but sometimes due to environmental reasons like lack of good social environment or exposure many kids do take time in speaking. Try taking consultation with a speech therapist as they can guide you how to encourage child to talk better. Till then talk more and more to the child, encourage every word spoken by him. Provide prompts to make word finding easy for the child.

Hi 5 simple tricks to sharpen thinking and memory skills using these memory-enhancing techniques can help improve your ability to learn new information and retain it over time. 1. Repeat one of the golden rules of learning and memory is a repeat, repeat, repeat. The brain also responds to novelty, so repeating something in a different way or at a different time will make the most of the novelty effect and allow you to build stronger memories. Examples of using repetition include: taking notes repeating a name after you hear it for the first time repeating or paraphrasing what someone says to you 2. Organize a day planner or smart phone calendar can help you keep track of appointments and activities and can also serve as a journal in which you write anything that you would like to remember. Writing down and organizing information reinforces learning. Try jotting down conversations, thoughts, experiences. Review current and previous day's entries at breakfast and dinner. If you use a planner and not a smartphone, keep it in the same spot at home and take it with you whenever you leave. 3. Visualize learning faces and names is a particularly hard task for most people. In addition to repeating a person's name, you can also associate the name with an image. Visualization strengthens the association you are making between the face and the name. For example: link the name sandy with the image of a beach, and imagine sandy on the beach. 4. Cue when you are having difficulty recalling a particular word or fact, you can cue yourself by giving related details or'talking around' the word, name, or fact. Other practical ways to cue include: using alarms or a kitchen timer to remind you of tasks or appointments. Placing an object associated with the task you must do in a prominent place at home. For example, if you want to order tickets to a play, leave a newspaper ad for the play near your telephone or computer. 5. Group when you're trying to remember a long list of items, it can help to group the items in sets of three to five, just as you would remember a phone number. This strategy capitalizes on organization and building associations and helps to extend the capacity of our short-term memory by chunking information together instead of trying to remember each piece of information independently. For example: if you have a list of 15 things on your grocery list, you can group the items by category, such as dairy, produce, canned goods, and frozen foods. I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day.

Hi I have 2 months old baby. And last night we have done unprotected sex. I don't want to be pregnant again. What should I do? if I use any pills, won't it harmful my 2 months old baby who is feeding my milk? please help.

Pediatrician, Pune
If you are breastfeeding that itself acts as a contraception, if you had sex during safe period that is 7 days after your menses or 7 days before your menses, chances of pregnancy are less but do consult your gyanecologist before taking any pills.
