Doctor can you help me with my black female lab who is 6 month old. I feel that she has some problem with her coat as I find her hairs more often on clothes and bed. Though her coat looks to be fine, shiny and hairy yet this hair loss concerns me. Is it fine or any sort of symptom? And also how to help with her unclean ears?

MVSc, BVSc
Veterinarian,
Dogs do shed seasonally. The shedding is more in growing puppies. Its suggested that you comb your pet's fur at least once daily - preferably in the morning- to remove all dead/loose fur. This way you can reduce chances of finding fur on bed n cloths. Check if she's overdue for deworming, which can also contribute to stress and excess shedding. Check on diet, if it has balanced nutrients, especially good quality proteins. You can safely incorporate oral omega 3/6/9 supplement so as to control loss of fur. Hope this is helpful:)

What are some good laxative medicnes for dogs which are easily available. Please tell.

What are some good laxative medicnes for dogs which are easily available. Please tell.
Lot of luxatives are available in market. But formost queation is that why your dog is having constipation or difficulty is passing stool which includes internal parasites, any obstruction in intestine to rectum, low fibre diet, prostate enlargement etc. I recommend to get your dog examined by vet so that reason is identified and management is done accordingky. Giving unnecessary luxative can lead to loosemotion, electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, intestinal damagr et c.

Sir my dog has got canine parvo virus and it has been cured now total 1 month has been over after treatment today I have taken it for first time vaccination they have given rakshab and something like meg---- is there any need to go for deworming of puppy which was just 5- 6 months old.

BVSc
Veterinarian, Noida
Deworming is done every month once upto 6 month age of puppy. After that, its done at 3 month interval upto the life span of your dog. So, if your vet is suggesting for deworming, just go for it. Only a tablet or 2 will be given to your puppy as per weight of your puppy.

My 6 month labrador dog suffering from hair fall. please give me some best suggestions! like. An ejection names or any thing.

B.V.Sc. & A.H., M.V.Sc
Veterinarian, Gurgaon
Lybrate-userhair fall can be due to multiple reasons. Is it at particular part of body or generalize. Slight generalize hair fall is normal. Few dogs shed more twice a year and few shed equally throughout the year. Please make sure you are feeding nutritious diet rich in proteins and essential fatty acids.

I have a German spitz puppy of 2.25 moths. What is the right age of its first bath.

MVSc (Ph.D)
Veterinarian,
There is no hard & fast rule for giving a bath, when it is dirty shabby & unclean, unpleasant and smelling give a good bath with soap & shampoo, in summer, you can give weekly also depending upon the skin condition, your puppy is 2months 25 days, no problem, at all. See that, you wrap after bath & keep worm in these days of cold, and make the skin dry,

I have a q regarding my dog's health. he is having vomiting since last 15 days. whatever he eats in next moment he throws out. I gave him digene 1 tbspun in a day as prescribed by his doc nd sporolac powder with food also. he is 2.5 years pomerenian. plz guide me what to do next to improve his health.

MVSc, BVSc
Veterinarian,
Please investigate. Vomiting may not a disease in itself, but a sign observed in many diseases. Vomiting (I'll call it as - Regurgitation) for 15 days shouldn't be taken lightly. To start with - you can get a chest and abdomen x ray done - to identify if there is any radio-opaque foreign body, and send blood sample to identify if there is any metabolic involvement. Hope this is helpful.

My dog is street dog and aged 11years. He keeps biting himself now and have become lazy. Is this coz of age or some other reason.

Rule out ticks in the body either now or before a month . If so then treat for the dog as its having tick allergic dermatitis with your vet.

I equally love both my cats. But the elder one is jealous of little one. How should I treat her so that she would stay happily with little one? My cat is always ready to initiate a fight with the other one? Please help me to understand her psychology??

Master of sciences, B.V.Sc. & A.H.
Veterinarian, Salem
Never pat or play with the little one when the elder is around. First give important to elder one and by the side also ask the little one to be with you also slowly develop the rapoo with them. By this way you can surely break the jealous between them.

Chewing and eating things some times are outcome od developong taste in such thing. Do not punish for doing so. Keep emergy of your dog burn by giving good exercise. When ever she try to eat mud or clothe say no and give rigjt thing ti chew like chew bones etc. Do not leave clothes scattered in home and do not allow access of mud.

Name: Teddy Breed: Golden Lab Age: 4yr 11months Sex : Male Current Problem: 2 cm growth in Urinary Bladder, Stone and Urine Infection with inflammation in prostate. Passes blood in last flow of his urine. The situation has gone worst, irregular flow of urine. Urge of urine is there but the flow is not there. Today, after the ultra sound and the X- Ray it has been further diagnosed a growth in urinary bladder and has been further prescribed to get Urine Cytology test. The quantity of stone has also increased. As per Dr?s the main concern is the abnormal growth in the bladder than the stone?s now. Treatment:- Current- Only anti biotics- Daflon 500, Augmentin 375- twice daily for 10 days till the next report Catheter was inserted Four times in two months, after which it couldn?t be inserted because of inflammation. Other than catheter, 1) Neeri ? twice daily 2) Cithral- Once Daily 3) Anti Biotic were injected as well History:- 1) As a pup, always had upset stomach. Situation was quite bad and was given steroids. 2) Two years back, he had a low blood count and non stop puking. We got Teddy when he was about 30 days old and now its been nearly 5 years. To me, he is more important to me than any one else. His Nature:- 1) Overtly friendly 2) Doesn?t bite in any condition, be it as extreme as any stranger pushing his food aside while he is having his meal. 3) When goes for a walk, prefers to be on clean places. He is also very smart and will tap you with his hand when he wants to go out. 4) Loves to run in park but hasn?t been able to. Society restrictions. Food Habits:- 1) No daal, carrot, cabbage or any other vegetables. 2) Moody on rice 3) Enjoys chicken soup, chicken, bones, egg ( boiled, raw, half fried) 4) Water intake is very less 5) Love dog biscuits, Rusk, Pizza Crust. His daily meal includes:- Summers Morning:- 4- 5 Boiled Egg and 4 Roti/ 4-5 Boiled Egg and 5 white bread. Evening:- Chicken Soup with 250gm chicken and 2 hand full of Oats/ Chicken Soup with chicken and Roti/ Chicken soup with chicken and rice Earlier used to give curd regularly. Winters: Morning: Chicken Soup with 250gm Chicken and 2- 3 handful of Oats/ Chicken soup with 250gm Chicken and bread Evening: Chicken soup with chicken and roti/ Chicken Soup with Chicken and Oats/ Chicken soup with chicken and rice His Nature Teddy has always been a family dog. He never wishes to be friends with other dogs who are always barking or are more excited than he is at that point of time. Actually, he has been friends only with Pups. In fact more than him, I think it is our insecurity/ fear or care for teddy, that we do not allow him to mix with dogs around. ( majority of them ferocious). Also, he gets very cranky and wants to go be out always during the mating season. (thrice an year). Except for the weekends, he is usually alone at home the entire day. (9.30am- 4.30pm) where he does not eat or drink anything. Food bowls remain the same as we leave it for him. ( untouched). Whenever he is in pain due to any reason, he is usually barking and becomes cranky. (doesn?t mean he cries but feel like he yells for attention) Other than the above, he is very affectionate towards his family and very eager to for backrubs and hugs. He is a very happy dog

MVSc, BVSc
Veterinarian,
Hi . Its great to know about Teddy. I'm afraid that he has to suffer with the urinary condition. Urine microscopy/cytology - would certainly be the next step further - to identify any cells and crystals he's voiding in urine. Cells will tell you about the type of growth and crystals will elaborate about type of stone/calculi. Speak to your vet about sending the urine sample for urine culture as well. Almost always - stones are accompanied with infectious element and wise to be specific about the antibiotics, than treating blindly. Understand that UTI - urinary tract infections, take a frustratingly long course to get treated. I'ld attribute his dietary habits as one of the factors leading to stones/infection. Speak to your vet about switching him to prescription diet for urinary systems - RC urinary or Hills c/d. Explore if you have access to cystoscopy - passing a tiny probe with camera into the bladder to visualize the growth, and take a biopsy if possible. Kindly share his reports if possible. Hope this is helpful. Take care.
