I am 27 years old. My son is in the end of the 7th month now. He usually sucks milk only from right breast not at all on my left. So milk production is very less at my left side. Now I am not feeding On from my left, I feed only on the right side. Will this create any health issues to me? What I have to do now?

MBBS
General Physician, Chandigarh
Milk production in your left breast will stop ultimately if the child is not suckling from it you should encourage him and put him on it again otherwise later on their can be some difference in the size of both breasts

Ways to Reduce Teeth Sensitivity

MDS, BDS
Dentist, Ghaziabad
Ways to Reduce Teeth Sensitivity

The tooth is made of 3 layers, each with unique characteristics and specific function, the enamel, dentin, and pulp. The enamel is the outermost layer of the tooth and gives the tooth it's hard and lustrous appearance. The enamel is thicker on the crown than the root and is the first one to be affected by tooth decay. The only symptom when the enamel is decayed is food lodgment and discoloration.

The dentin is the next layer, which is composed of minute fine tubules leading from the enamel to the living portion of the tooth, which is the pulp. Once decay progresses from the enamel, the dentin is affected, and this leads to sensitivity in the teeth. When the root portion is exposed to the oral environment, because the root is covered by a more delicate substance called cementum, more severe dental sensitivity ensues.

There is a sharp, shooting discomfort through the tooth to specific foods, such as sweet, acidic, or hot or cold foods.  The main reasons for tooth sensitivity include:

However, there are some simple ways to manage sensitivity, which can be done regularly at home.

  1. Toothpaste made for sensitive teeth: Potassium nitrate has been shown to block the tubules and has been included as an active ingredient in toothpastes. These are very effective, and if you are brushing twice, this can be used instead of the regular paste once.
  2. Brushing: Both the type of toothbrush and the brushing technique can have an impact on sensitivity.  Change to softer brushes and learn the ideal way to brush your teeth. A lot of times, rough brushing can lead to erosion and subsequent sensitivity
  3. Rinsing: Fluoride containing rinses have been proven to reduce sensitivity
  4. Food habits: Even before sensitivity sets in, being cautious to avoid acidic fruits and juices can help prolong the onset of sensitivity. If possible, consuming these food stuffs should be followed by brushing or at the least a thorough rinsing
  5. Sealants: If a person is prone to caries (deep pits and fissures, for instance), then it is advisable to get sealants applied on the teeth. This can reduce the instance of wearing of the enamel which then leads to sensitivity
  6. Mouth guard: If you are a night grinder, then a mouth guard can help curtail this habit and thereby reduce sensitivity.

There you go with how to reduce sensitivity. Try these simple, easy measures and go on to enjoy the sweets or hot or cold foods that you have always craved for.

You can try out ginger ale.but it is better to get her auscultated(checked through a stethoscope) by a general practitioner so that he can give you some mucolytics so that the csputtum will pass out through the stools.meantime also avoid cold food and drinks.

My son is 3 years old, he doesn't eat anything, we use hungry syrup, but no change, we are worrying about him, please give me a best suggestion for him, and one more thing he is always crying, what is the reason for crying?

My son is 3 years old, he doesn't eat anything, we use hungry syrup, but no change, we are worrying about him, please...
It seems the problem is 1) food or feeding is a punishment to him, 2) whatever he wants he gets by crying. So now remedy is give him enough time to eat but no choice. Let him cry and console himself to get over the habit of crying. Once he knows that crying will not yield anything, he will be different. It seems he is very sharp, intelligent child. So try these gor a week or two without a break and provide me feedback. No medication please but for deworming medicine every four months.

4 Basic Skin Problems in Infants

4 Basic Skin Problems in Infants

Your baby's skin requires constant care and protection because it is exposed to the ravages of pollution, dust and harmful UV rays. A healthy skin also has aesthetic benefits apart from being disease resistant.
It takes about a year for the epidermis of a baby to develop and function effectively. Once the baby turns one, the skin gets thicker and more immune to skin problems.

Here are four common skin problems found in almost every infant:

  1. Prickly heat rashes: Prickly heat rashes are the rashes, which develop on the face, neck, back or the bottom of the baby because of heat. To deal with this situation you should try to keep the infant cool and dry (not let him/her sweat) and ensure that they wear loose and comfortable clothes made of cotton.
  2. Seborrhea: Rashes that develop on the scalp, eyebrows, cheeks, chest, and/or neck of a newborn baby (up to 6 months), are known as seborrhea. It appears to be gruesome, but does not bother the baby. It is recommended to use mild baby shampoo and creams to get rid of the problem. If there is no improvement, consult a dermatologist.
  3. Eczema: About 20% of the babies suffer from a very itchy skin rash known as 'eczema'. The affected area of the skin may turn red, ooze pus or crust over. It can be a result of an irritation caused due to sweating in a hot weather or due to the drying up of skin in a cold weather. Some clothing, specifically wool can even trigger this skin condition in a baby. A dermatologist or a paediatrician should be consulted in order to know what should be done.
  4. Diaper rash: Diaper rash is the development of red and inflamed skin in the area under the diaper. It is recommended to check the diaper for any wetness at regular intervals, and to change it when required. The diaper should not be too tight or left on too long. Applying a diaper rash ointment and keeping the area dry and open whenever possible can help in relieving your baby from the problem.

Dear lybrate-user, you struck with bitter truth of life. If you want to be overcome this situation:- 1) be strong, be a fighter and face reality. 2) under stand situation & accept truth. 3) hope for best & prepare for worst. 4) god help them who help them self. 5) keep your self physically & mentally busy in your work, it will help you to over come from depression. 6) do regularly breathing exercise - pranayama - omkar pramayama thrice daily. 7) where one road ends you have two options to progress.

Hi want to increase my lactation I am already taking methi water everyday morning. My baby is 2 months and I supplement her with enfamil.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
You need confedence to feed the child successfully. Lack of faith in self, suspicion reduces milk secretion. Observe weight chart. If it is normal don't worry. Top feeds confuse children and they shift from breastfeeding to formula feeds it's lot more easy.
