My hair was so thick and my hair was falling so much day by day, I doesn't no what to do? Please help me.

Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. It's normal to loose up to 100 hair per day, and in most people, those hairs grow back. But many men -- and some women -- lose hair as they grow older. You can also lose your hair if you have certain diseases, such as thyroid problems, diabetes, or lupus. If you take certain medicines or have chemotherapy for cancer, you may also lose your hair. Other causes are stress, a low protein diet, a family history, use of bore water, or nutritional deficiencies. Need to rule out any causative factor or underlying medical condition. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg., eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, Vitamin B12, iron, zinc and Omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin) , different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources) Take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) Avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! Cover your head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use Rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you FIT and YOUNG!! Medication: Take homoeopathic Rx - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200 & Alfalfa Tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Also, use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica Hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Apart from this, take Follihair tablets (multivitamin) - 1 tab. daily once for 1 month. Investigations advised: Get your blood tested for (empty stomach) - CBC, S. Iron, S. Folic acid, S. Ferritin, S. Calcium, S. Vitamin D3, S. Vitamin B12. If there is any family history of Thyroid dysfunction, get Thyroid function test done as well.

I have high Blood Pressure since 2013. My doctor suggested me Concor 2.5 daily at 8: 00 AM. Someone told me the medicine is not for BP. It is for heart. Kindly suggest.

General Physician, Pune
Concor is for blood pressure. If it is keeping your blood pressure normal and offering no side effects, then keep on taking it. Concor can reduce pulse rate as side effect. So keep track of your pulse per minute. If it goes below 65 per minute, consult your doctor. In india, many non medical people have a habit of commenting on doctors opinion without complete knowledge. So when in doubt ask your doctor, nobody else.

P.G.Diploma in dietetics and applied nutrition

Hi night shifts brings with it a total change in your body clock along with the timings of eating pattern. However since its your job you don't have any option but to succumb to the same. You can stay healthy by avoiding the junk and the fast foods available in your cafeteria and rather pick healthy fruit plates for in between snacking. Avoid fried and sweets if you used to eating them. Also see to it that you take a stroll after every hour to avoid weight gain by absolutely sitting n eating kindly consult in person or get in touch through private consult and will guide you thanks.

I am 24years old. My name is sanaa. I have acne, mostly acne scars. Big black scars on my face. This has been the biggest problem in my life. Pls help me to remove all these ugly scars.

Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. There are four main factors which causes acne: Oil production Dead skin cells Clogged pores Bacteria Factors that may worsen the acne: Androgen hormones, certain medications (drugs containing corticosteroids, androgens or lithium tcan worsen acne), dietary factors, including dairy products and carbohydrate-rich foods — such as bread, bagels and chips — may trigger acne and Stress can make acne worse. Management: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days. Also, use Bakson’s Apricot scrub 1-2times a week on the area. If you are talking about pits on the skin, then they can only be taken care with various skin treatments like microdermabrasion, skin polishing, chemical peels, laser, etc. but getting totally rid off this is a bit not possible or else you can consult a dermatologist. Weight Gain in PCOS

BHSC in Dietetics, Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Science and Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Weight Gain in PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age. Polycystic means “many cysts,” and PCOS often causes clusters of small, pearl-sized cysts in the ovaries. The cysts are fluid-filled and contain immature eggs. PCOS affects one in 4 women.

What are the causes behind it?
While the exact cause of PCOS is unknown, doctors believe that hormonal imbalances and genetics play a role. Women are more likely to develop PCOS if their mother or sister also has the condition.
Overproduction of the hormone androgen may be another contributing factor. Androgen is a male sex hormone that women’s bodies also produce.

PCOS Symptoms
PCOS is a syndrome disease defined by a collection of signs and symptoms. The symptoms of PCOS that one patient experiences can be very different from the symptoms of another patient. If you have two or more of the following symptoms, you need to have a thorough checkup to determine if you need PCOS treatment:

  • Irregular or missing menstrual periods
  • Infertility
  • Excess or unwanted body or facial hair growth
  • Thinning hair on the scalp
  • Weight problems, often including weight gain around the waist
  • Skin problems, including skin tags, darkening skin and acne

Does PCOS increase weight?
The answer is a ‘YES’. Most PCOS patients are overweight and are asked to exercise which helps control the symptoms but a lot many people have a completely normal body type.

What are the risks associated with PCOS-related weight gain?
No matter what the cause, weight gain can be detrimental to your health. Women with PCOS are more likely to develop many of the problems associated with weight gain and insulin resistance, including:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Sleep apnea
  • Infertility
  • Endometrial cancer

Many of these conditions can lead to heart disease. In fact, women with PCOS are four to seven times more likely to have a heart attack than women of the same age without the condition.

Benefit of Weight Loss with PCOS

Modest weight loss will not cure PCOS, but it will help. Weight loss can restore the normal function of the ovaries and result in normal hormone production. This may, in turn, lead to improvements in symptoms of PCOS, such as excess hair growth, acne or scalp hair loss.

Protect Yourself From Weight Gain

  • Eat Right: A healthy diet low in complex carbohydrates, moderate protein and low fat is important, as this can help regulate blood sugar levels.
  • Exercise: Start doing low-to-moderate activities like walking or swimming for 30-to-90 minutes per day because exercise (even without weight loss) has been shown to lower or get rid of insulin resistance.
  • Lose Weight: The more overweight you are the more likely you are to be insulin resistant whether you have PCOS or not. Losing just 5% of your bodyweight will help lower your insulin resistance.
  • Avoid Stress: Don’t over stress yourself as it increases the blood pressure level in your body and can’t help to resist with PCOS. So, try to stay as calm as possible.
  • Get more sleep (at least 7-to-9 hours in a day): Not getting enough sleep can also make your insulin resistance worse, which in turn acquires you the weight.

  • Cereals: Barley, quinoa, oats, oatmeal, muesli, bran flakes, whole wheat porridge, brown rice, multigrain bread
  • Pulses: Yellow moong, green moong, chana dal, beans, whole pulses
  • Dairy products: Skimmed or toned milk, soy milk, tofu, paneer, yogurt
  • Fruits: Berries, plums, peaches, oranges, papaya, pears, watermelons, apples
  • Nuts: Walnut, almonds, flaxseeds
  • Vegetables: Carrots, peas, broccoli, lettuce, mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, onions, cauliflower, celery, spinach

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.

I am using tomato pulp, tsp of honey and tsp of baking soda for my face. However, finding baking soda is difficult ,so, can I use baking powder instead?

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
Please don't use neither baking powder nor baking soda...both of them will increase your skin tone initial..but later after 2-3 years, its is cause skin loosening. Very difficult in later period to get skin tone. Better just go for facial regularly. Hope you got it. Take care :)

Back Pain

Physiotherapist, Kota
Back Pain

For many people, back pain seems like an unavoidable discomfort. But you may have more control than you think.

You can wreck your back in any number of ways, but a few major offenders stand out: not stretching, not paying attention to your movements and years of wear and tear, says nick shamie, md, associate professor of orthopedic neurosurgery at ucla and a spokesman for the American academy of orthopaedic surgeons.

Here are five habits that put your spine at risk and simple strategies to stop them before the damage is done.

Back wrecker #1: weekend warfare

'most often, I see people who injured themselves during a weekend basketball game or a round of golf' shamie says these people think they're athletes, but don't train like the pros, and as a result, their backs suffer'

Slideshow 10 health myths debunked start

Tackling those 'honey-do' lists at home can also set you up for injury, especially if you were idle for most of the week. Cleaning out the garage, bending over a workbench, or spending hours in the yard or garden can be just as hard on your back as anything you do on a playing field.

Prevent it'the only preventive solution I've found for back pain is exercise' says Michael Hisey, md, orthopedic surgeon and president of the texas back institute in Denton, texas's fix is to stretch and strengthen your core muscles'

The obliques -- the abdominal muscles on your sides -- are especially important for back stability, hisey tells webmd.

Hisey's tip: get an inflatable exercise ball. Use it in your workouts and sit on it, instead of a chair, to engage your abs.

Back wrecker #2: poor lifting technique

'improper bending and lifting causes back injury; that's all there is to it' says dan mcmackin, a spokesman for ups.

Prevent it: engage your abs to help support your back. Here are the basic principles that ups uses for safe lifting, according to mcmackin:

Bend your knees and keep your back straight. Don't bend at your waist.
Keep the object close to you. The farther away you hold it from your body, the more it stresses your back.
Never hold an item higher than your armpit or lower than your knees.
Don't move something that weighs more than 20% of your body weight.
Don't pivot, twist, or turn while lifting. Point your feet at the item you're lifting and face it as you pick it up. Change direction with your feet, not your waist.

Back wrecker #3: absentmindedness during daily activity

Simple tasks like taking out the trash or washing the dishes can get your spine bent out of shape if your body isn't ready.

'the movement doesn't necessarily have to be exaggerated or involve a heavy object' hisey says you can hurt your back grabbing a paperclip off the floor or loading the dishwasher'

And if your mind is running on auto-pilot instead of focusing on what you're doing, you could be in trouble.

'at ups, we've seen a higher proportion of injuries occur at the end of the shift, due to fatigue of the mind and body' mcmackin says.

Prevent it: train yourself to keep your core muscles engaged.

Slideshow: surprising reasons you're in pain start

A simple way to do that is to pull your navel toward your spine and imagine you're wearing a corset that pulls the sides of your abs inward. Doing that throughout the day -- and especially when lifting or bending -- strengthens and supports your back, says esther gokhale, author of8 steps to a pain-free back and owner of esther gokhale wellness center in palo alto, calif.

Back wreckers #4 and #5: commuting and computing

You sit, and you sit, and you sit some more -- at work, while driving, and in front of the tv. And your back doesn't like it. Here's why.

Your discs are spongy and cushion the vertebrae in your spine, but discs have poor blood supply, hisey says. When you move, fluid circulates through the discs. When you sit still, the fluid is wrung out, so you're depriving discs of nutrition, he says. Spending so much time behind the wheel of a car or sitting in front of a computer adds mileage to our discs, which leads to stress in your back.

'the discs in your spine are nourished by motion' hisey says'so sitting still is hard on your back and neck, and can do long-term damage' studies have also shown that sitting puts more pressure on your spine than lying down or standing up.

'the worst posture is sitting and leaning forward' shamie says. This makes you lock your pelvis and flex your spine, putting pressure on the front of the vertebrae, where your discs are. The more you arch forward and exaggerate the curve of the spine, the more pressure you're putting on your discs this uneven pressure on a disc puts it at high risk of rupture' shamie explains.

Back wreckers #4 and #5: commuting and computing continued.

Prevent it: you're going to sit. So try these tactics to lessen its impact on your back:

Get up and move at least once every 20 minutes, unless you're driving. Set your screen saver to remind you; make a habit of going for a drink of water; when you answer the phone, stand up to stretch and change positions.
Keep your spine properly aligned by holding reading material at eye level (when sitting or standing) rather than bending over. Don't lean over a desk or table to work. Whenever possible, your spine should be straight.
Choose a chair that supports your back. Adjust the chair so that your feet stay flat on the floor. If the chair doesn't support your lower back's curve, place a rolled towel or small pillow behind your lower back. Remove anything from your back pockets, especially a wallet, if you'll be seated for long periods of time because this puts your spine out of alignment.
Gokhale suggests doing the following exercises to help lengthen your spine:

Get on your hands and knees. Reach your left arm straight ahead and straighten your right leg behind you. Use your stomach muscles to stabilize. Hold for 5-10 seconds and slowly return to starting position. Switch arm and leg. Repeat 3-5 times on each side.
Sit tall, lengthen your spine, and let your shoulders relax. Concentrate on squeezing your shoulder blades together, keeping your arms hanging at your sides. Hold for 3-5 seconds, then release. Repeat 10-20 times.
