Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): What Should You Know?

What is FUE Hair transplant?
Follicular Unit Extraction is most widely used and the most reliable method of hair transplant being utilized for the permanent and scar-less restoration of hair. FUE is so effective surgical method that it is impossible to distinguish transplanted hair from natural hair. Results are natural and undetectable.

How is FUE done?
The procedure is performed in the OPD under Local Anaesthesia. Anaesthesia is given to prevent any discomfort to the patient during the procedure.

FUE is the method of extraction donor hair directly from donor site in a follicular unit hair transplant procedure. An instrument is used to make small circular incisions in the skin around a follicular unit while separating it from the surrounding tissue. The follicular unit is directly extracted from the scalp leaving a small open hole.

This process continues until the surgeon accumulates large number of follicular units for the planned hair restoration. For single session, this procedure can take two to three hours whereas for long session, it may be accomplished over two consecutive days. The donor scars are approximately 1mm in size which completely heals within ten days.

Before the grafts are harvested, tiny 'recipient sites'; are made in the balding area of the scalp using a fine needle-point instrument. The follicular units are then placed into the recipient sites where they will grow into healthy hair-producing follicles. The creation of recipient sites and the placing of follicular unit grafts are essentially the same in both FUE and FUT procedures. The difference lies in the appearance of the donor area and in the quality and quantity of grafts obtained with each technique.

How is the healing phase after an FUE?
The donor wounds, approximately 1-mm in size, completely heal over the course of seven to ten days, leaving tiny white scars buried in the hair in the back and sides of the scalp.

When does the hair begin growing?
The transplanted hair generally shed within 2 to 6 weeks after the surgery as roots enter in resting phase. Within three to eight months, transplanted roots start sprouting hair. It takes ten to twelve months to have denser hair as hair continue to mature and thicken gradually. Once transplanted hair begin to grow, it will continue to do so for lifetime.

What is biostimulated FUE?
It comprises of hair transplantation by FUE along with 3 sessions of Platelet rich plasma therapy which simultaneously enhance residual hairs as well as transplanted hairs by presence of high concentration of growth factors directly near the hair roots and stimulation of STEM CELLS.

In this hair follicles to be transplanted are preserved in a special solution enriched with patient's own growth factors and at the end of surgery this concentrated solution of growth factors is injected into the whole affected area.

With biostimulation, a good proportion of transplanted hairs remain in growth phase (ANAGEN) and directly start growing after transplantation.

Will it affect my sexual lif...
You could have a problem but that can be resolved. You may find that in intercourse there is less friction and therefore you may take longer to ejaculate. Even if you do ejaculate fast, you can do it again and you will find that you will be slower than the last time. YOu can even attempt it a third time and it will last much longer.

Hello Dr. From last day I noted my stool colour is red & my urine colour is golden What's the symptoms of this.
Red colour stool can be due to intake of beetroot or some medicines. Secondly, if it is fresh blood with stool, this may be due to disease in the rectum or anus like fissure for which detailed history and examination may be required. Golden urine may be due to reduced intake of fluids or increase in bilirubin (hepatitis. How is your appetite?

My mother was admitted to neighbouring hospital after falling due to slippage on floor. She is 72 years old and type 2 diabetic with controlled diabetes 150/200 with glimestar 1 mg 2 pills per day for last 15 years. It was observed on MRI that a compression fracture on back bone and two small cracks on pelvic bone. During traction and physiotherapy she exhibited severe shortness of breath and doctor carried out sonography and found some abnormality of the sort enlargement of heart. Upon pulmonary angiography bilateral pulmonary embolism was observed. Suddenly the other treatments stopped and some blood thinning medication under critical observations for 5 days conducted. Later she was brought to ward and two days was in observations and discharged suggesting if possible to walk 10-20 steps and increase slowly wearing proper belt. Initially she was only able to stand with support and walk only 2-3 steps with great difficulty. Normal diabetes medicine and daily 1 tablet of warfarin was prescribed. The major problem after discharge observed was her reluctance to swallow sufficient food and water. With great difficulty only juices, milk with energy drink, dal rice smashed was accepted only in limited quantities with reason of tasteless in mouth and vomiting sensations. All the food given was not swallowed to full extent, instead kept in mouth and she use slowly split the same after some time. Standing on her feet was also not possible and she was reluctant even to her moving on bed itself for frequent change of position. Sugar level increased to 200/300 and the tablet increased to 2 mg. Meanwhile blood was observed in urine and upon test Warfarin was stopped for 10 days. Within next 2-3 days, urine turned to white and upon /urine test /infection was detected and antibiotics prescribed. But the very next day the infection became severe as she was observed very uneasy. Upon hospitalization once again, she is kept in intensive care with antibiotic treatment and signs of improvement observed but the problem of tasteless in mouth is concern. At present the food is being fed through pipe in nose. We are very much worried about the future as without proper food, there is no scope of survival. Can you please help how to come out of such dreadful situation?

Wearing these for too long may cause hair loss. But if you wear them sometimes, it will not cause much problem.
